Book excerpt: Ever since the publication of Battle Cry more than thirty years ago, Leon Uris has continued to write bestselling novels. Each displays all of the author's skill, for he is a writer at his best when the subject seems almost too big to handle. One of the most popular storytellers of the twentieth century, more than 5,500,000 copies of his novels have been sold in Corgi alone. In Trinity, he writes passionately about the tragedy of Ireland - from the famine of the 1840s to the Easter Rising of 1916, a powerful and stirring novel about the loves and hates, the defeats and triumphs of three families - a terrible and beautiful drama spanning more than half a century.

This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 781 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Expeditions of Zebulon Montgomery Pike: 1805-1807" is an account of the two expeditions of the American explorer Zebulon Montgomery Pike to headwaters of the Mississippi River, through Louisiana territory and in New Spain, written from his memory after the Spanish authorities had confiscated his journals. In the summer of 1805 general James Wilkinson, appointed Governor of the Upper Louisiana Territory, ordered Pike to locate the source of the Mississippi River, explore the northern portion of the newly created Louisiana Territory, and expel Canadian fur traders illegally trading in the borders of the United States. After he returned from this first expedition, Wilkinson almost immediately ordered him to mount a second expedition, this time to explore, map, and find the headwaters of the Arkansas and Red rivers. Additional objectives of this exploratory expedition into the southwestern part of the Louisiana Territory were to evaluate natural resources and establish friendly relations with Native Americans. Pike's second expedition crossed the Rocky Mountains into what is now southern Colorado, which led to his capture by the Spanish colonial authorities near Santa Fe, who sent Pike and his men to Chihuahua (present-day Mexico), for interrogation. Later in 1807, Pike and some of his men were escorted by the Spanish through Texas and released near American territory in Louisiana.
Book Synopsis Gibbo-In My Life by : Paul André Gibbons
Download or read book Gibbo-In My Life written by Paul André Gibbons and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-05-09 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crafted with enormous appeal, GIBBO is a moving account that sweeps the reader into the world of a young lad born in the Black Country of England, a place rich in history and steeped in the glory of medieval times, the story enhanced by Gibbos remembrances of his beloved football tribe, West Bromwich Albion, and his desire to bring English footy to America. Gibbos writer weaves a poignant life story that will stay around forever, transferring to paper an admixture of gusto, humour, and sadness from a broad yam-yam dialect that cannot be obscured by favourite son, Paul Andr Gibbons, one of the Southeast USAs most popular Coerver soccer coaches. Through tears of remembrance, Gibbo relives the pain of loss that sends him spiraling into despondency as childhood dreams are dashed on the rocks of bereavement. He takes to the soccer ball that is his bastion, to the game that identifies him, learning that there is eventually a reprieve and he must make the exchange of beauty for ashes if he is to move on in life. Follow Gibbo as he coaches and teaches soccer in the Black Country of England, in America, and with his soccer camps the world over, including Coaching for Conservation in Botswana, Africa. Far more emotional than Gibbos trials and triumphs in the world of soccer is the thought of his grandchildren a continent away, growing older and taller by the day, and he is not there to see it happen. He learns a mans worth is not measured in dollars and cents or in British pound but in a job well done whether in Europe, South Asia, Africa, or the USA, and that the icing on his cake is an annual trip to The Black Country of England to strengthen the ties that bind.
