Book Synopsis Shock Waves in Condensed Matter by : Y. M. Gupta
Download or read book Shock Waves in Condensed Matter written by Y. M. Gupta and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 922 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourth American Physical Society Topical Conference on Shock Waves in Condensed Matter was held in Spokane, Washington, July 22-25, 1985. Two hundred and fifty scientists and engineers representing thirteen countries registered at the conference. The countries represented included the United States of America, Australia, Canada, The People's Repub lic of China, France, India, Israel, Japan, Republic of China (Taiwan), United Kingdom, U. S. S. R, Switzerland and West Germany. One hundred and sixty-two technical papers, cov ering recent developments in shock wave and high pressure physics, were presented. All of the abstracts have been published in the September 1985 issue of the Bulletin of the American Physical Society. The topical conferences, held every two years since 1979, have become the principal forum for shock wave studies in condensed materials. Both formal and informal technical discussions regarding recent developments conveyed a sense of excitement. Consistent with the past conferences, the purpose of this conference was to bring together scientists and engineers studying the response of condensed matter to dynamic high pressures and temperatures. Papers covering experimental, theoretical, and numerical studies of con densed matter properties were presented. A noteworthy feature of this conference was the participation by several leading scientists engaged in static high pressure research. Donald Curran served as the Master of Ceremonies at the conference banquet, which was at tended by two hundred and seventy-five conference participants and guests including Dr. Samuel Smith, the new President of Washington State University. Book Synopsis Mechanical Properties and Working of Metals and Alloys by : Amit Bhaduri
Download or read book Mechanical Properties and Working of Metals and Alloys written by Amit Bhaduri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-12 with total page 758 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to serve as core text or handy reference on two key areas of metallic materials: (i) mechanical behavior and properties evaluated by mechanical testing; and (ii) different types of metal working or forming operations to produce useful shapes. The book consists of 16 chapters which are divided into two parts. The first part contains nine chapters which describe tension (including elastic stress – strain relation, relevant theory of plasticity, and strengthening methods), compression, hardness, bending, torsion – pure shear, impact loading, creep and stress rupture, fatigue, and fracture. The second part is composed of seven chapters and covers fundamentals of mechanical working, forging, rolling, extrusion, drawing of flat strip, round bar, and tube, deep drawing, and high-energy rate forming. The book comprises an exhaustive description of mechanical properties evaluated by testing of metals and metal working in sufficient depth and with reasonably wide coverage. The book is written in an easy-to-understand manner and includes many solved problems. More than 150 numerical problems and many multiple choice questions as exercise along with their answers have also been provided. The mathematical analyses are well elaborated without skipping any intermediate steps. Slab method of analysis or free-body equilibrium approach is used for the analytical treatment of mechanical working processes. For hot working processes, different frictional conditions (sliding, sticking and mixed sticking–sliding) have been considered to estimate the deformation loads. In addition to the slab method of analysis, this book also contains slip-line field theory, its application to the static system, and the steady state motion, Further, this book includes upper-bound theorem, and upper-bound solutions for indentation, compression, extrusion and strip drawing. The book can be used to teach graduate and undergraduate courses offered to students of mechanical, aerospace, production, manufacturing and metallurgical engineering disciplines. The book can also be used for metallurgists and practicing engineers in industry and development courses in the metallurgy and metallic manufacturing industries.

Book Synopsis Strain Rate Testing of Metallic Materials and Their Modelling for Use in CAE Based Automotive Crash Simulation Tools by : Paul K. C. Wood
Download or read book Strain Rate Testing of Metallic Materials and Their Modelling for Use in CAE Based Automotive Crash Simulation Tools written by Paul K. C. Wood and published by Smithers Rapra Technology. This book was released on 2009-01 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to provide guidelines to generate tensile strain rate test data for ferrous and non-ferrous sheet metals for use in finite element based automotive crash simulation tools. Specifically, measurement of the strength hardening in a sheet material resulting from strain rate testing using a high speed servo hydraulic test machine. Additionally, to provide guidelines to process raw test data, fit material model and format this data for application in crash simulation tools. It is not within the scope of these recommendations to advocate a material model to fit to strain rate test results, although useful models are referenced. Rather to give guidance on the error allowance in fitting model to test results. These guidelines are expected to have broader application in the transport industry sector.

Book Synopsis Smart Textiles for In Situ Monitoring of Composites by : Vladan Koncar
Download or read book Smart Textiles for In Situ Monitoring of Composites written by Vladan Koncar and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2018-10-29 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Smart Textiles for in situ Monitoring of Composites proposes a 'smart textile' approach to help solve the problem of real-time monitoring of the structural health of composites. The book combines textiles, composites and structural health monitoring knowledge to present an integrated approach to the deployment of smart textiles to monitor failure modes in composite materials. It introduces the theory of smart textiles for monitoring and measurement applications, describes established and developing techniques and approaches for using smart textiles for in-situ monitoring, and includes different fiber/matrix combinations and hybrid structures that are all presented using academic research and real-world case studies. As smart textiles are fitted with flexible adapted sensors and actuators that detect stress, deformation, temperature changes, light intensity, and other signals from the environment, this book is a timely resource on the topic. - Proposes a 'smart textile' approach to in situ monitoring of the structural health of composites where the composite structure's functionalized reinforcement also plays a role - Discusses the impact of this technology on different reinforcement materials and matrices - Demonstrates, through a review of research and case studies, the implementation of sensing and measurement systems
