Book excerpt: What would you do for the cross of Christ? For two thousand years, Christians have courageously triumphed over beatings, stonings, burnings, wild beasts, and every form of evil to boldly proclaim one truth: the name of Jesus. Voices of the Martyrs AD 33 – Today is their story and your Christian heritage. In the 16th century, English preacher John Foxe created what would later be called the “second most important book in history” after the Bible: Foxe’s Book of Martyrs. With dozens of images, modernized English, and up-to-date accounts, Foxe: Voices of the Martyrs faithfully binds the testimonies of more than 50 of Foxe’s heroes from the Early Church to the Reformation with Christians in the Enlightenment, the Industrial Revolution, and through the twentieth century. More importantly, Foxe: Voices of the Martyrs unites past Christians with believers today. Building on over fifty years of ministry to persecuted Christians, The Voice of the Martyrs organization shares sixty-seven stories of Christians who have stood faithfully to the death since 2000. Their courage in the face of ISIS and the Taliban, brutal dictatorships, and government crackdowns will inspire you to boldness and remind you that the same Spirit of Christ Who strengthened Stephen, Peter, and Paul is at work in you today.

This book was released on 2022-10-11 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this erudite and piercing biography, best-selling author Reza Aslan proves that one person’s actions can have revolutionary consequences that reverberate the world over. Little known in America but venerated as a martyr in Iran, Howard Baskerville was a twenty-two-year-old Christian missionary from South Dakota who traveled to Persia (modern-day Iran) in 1907 for a two-year stint teaching English and preaching the gospel. He arrived in the midst of a democratic revolution—the first of its kind in the Middle East—led by a group of brilliant young firebrands committed to transforming their country into a fully self-determining, constitutional monarchy, one with free elections and an independent parliament. The Persian students Baskerville educated in English in turn educated him about their struggle for democracy, ultimately inspiring him to leave his teaching post and join them in their fight against a tyrannical shah and his British and Russian backers. “The only difference between me and these people is the place of my birth," Baskerville declared, “and that is not a big difference.” In 1909, Baskerville was killed in battle alongside his students, but his martyrdom spurred on the revolutionaries who succeeded in removing the shah from power, signing a new constitution, and rebuilding parliament in Tehran. To this day, Baskerville’s tomb in the city of Tabriz remains a place of pilgrimage. Every year, thousands of Iranians visit his grave to honor the American who gave his life for Iran. In this rip-roaring tale of his life and death, Aslan gives us a powerful parable about the universal ideals of democracy—and to what degree Americans are willing to support those ideals in a foreign land. Woven throughout is an essential history of the nation we now know as Iran—frequently demonized and misunderstood in the West. Indeed, Baskerville’s life and death represent a “road not taken” in Iran. Baskerville’s story, like his life, is at the center of a whirlwind in which Americans must ask themselves: How seriously do we take our ideals of constitutional democracy and whose freedom do we support?

Book excerpt: Be Inspired by Amazing Eyewitness Stories of Hope and Courage from the Persecuted Church We are witnessing an astonishing escalation in Christian persecution like we have rarely seen since the first century. Some estimate that every five minutes, a Christian is martyred for his or her faith. Countries like Egypt have experienced more Christian persecution in the last five years than in the previous six hundred years combined. And who could have missed the atrocities of ISIS in Syria, Boko Haram in Nigeria, and the continued persecution of Christians in North Korea? Johnnie Moore, like many American Christians, didn’t fully appreciate the extent of what was going on—until he witnessed the graduation of theology students in India. Unlike graduation ceremonies in America—where feel-good speeches made by visiting celebrities are common—this one featured a remarkable oath. It wasn’t an oath to excel or succeed. It was an oath to be willing to die, if necessary, for the cause of Christ. This was no empty promise. This was a choice, choosing the eternal over the temporal. Johnnie knew he was witnessing a raw, first-century Christianity that his comfortable American version had shielded him from. “For the first time, I really understand my faith,” says Johnnie Moore. Now, he’s on a mission to give this same experience to others. He and his team have crisscrossed the world, recorders in hand, gathering eyewitness accounts from dozens of people who survived persecution—and the stories of some who didn’t. Join Johnnie Moore on this compelling journey to the heart of the Christian faith.

Martyr considers how far we should go in accommodating another’s faith, and when we should take a stand for our own opposing beliefs.

When Faith Is Forbidden takes you to meet a Chinese Christian woman who called six months in prison "a wonderful time," an Iraqi pastor and his wife just eight days after assassins' bullets ripped into his flesh, and others from our spiritual family who've suffered greatly for wearing the name of Christ. Each stop on this 40-day journey includes inspiration and encouragement through the story of a persecuted believer. You’ll also find space for reflection and a suggested prayer as you grow to understand the realities of living under persecution—and learn from the examples of the bold believers you'll meet. For more than 20 years, Todd Nettleton (host of The Voice of the Martyrs Radio) has traveled the world to interview hundreds of Christians who’ve been persecuted for the name of Christ. Now he opens his memory bank—and even his personal journals—to take you along to meet bold believers who will inspire you to a deeper walk with Christ.

Book excerpt: When Shahbaz Bhatti, the lone Christian in Pakistan’s cabinet and a determined campaigner for the rights of Christians and members of other faiths was killed, his Taliban-affiliated assassins probably hoped it would be the end of his influence. Instead, Bhatti’s stature has only grown after death, and today he looms as a martyr and patron saint for persecuted Christians everywhere. His riveting life, from devoted altar boy in an overwhelming Muslim nation to human rights campaigner, from politician and government minister to martyr, is one of the great Christian dramas of our time, and as long as Christians are at risk anywhere in the world, Shahbaz Bhatti will be a source of inspiration and hope. This book traces the evolution of a martyr, from his roots in a traditionally Catholic village in the Punjab region of Pakistan through his awakening as an activist and political leader. It also explores the possibility that Bhatti may one day be declared a saint of the Catholic Church. It’s a story that deserves to be told, everywhere and always, until it’s part of the common heritage of Christianity and all humanity.

Book excerpt: Before this world is made into a virtual utopia it’s destined to be destroyed by fire; But Christians won’t have to go through those fiery days that shall burn as an oven, as recorded in Malachi 4; And our Heavens won’t even allow their tears to be shed, as thirsty grounds below swiftly spread everywhere, while turning our planet into a giant dust bowl. Then our earth’s crust will resonate from the resounding of moving mantle, that shall quickly waste all of the cities of a doomed race that foolishly followed after the ways of Babylon. And the electrical explosions of lightening crackles will then suddenly detonate within our expanse like unstable chemicals, that reacts ferociously with non compatible elements. Even our continental shelves shall also be rearranged in our new earth, when the underlying strata is moved miles out of it’s place by gargantuan earthquakes. Then our abandoned coastlines will be rapidly betrayed by waters, that leave real quick without any word. And within all areas of the circle of our earth new dry land shall suddenly arise to contend with bloody looking muck that shall be thrown up during volcanic conniptions. For our former forgotten seas will be swiftly transformed from eruptions, while they abruptly become parched badlands of the driest thirsty kind. And those bone dry lands will suddenly be floating upon steaming lava as it cools. Then the deepest gorges will be unexpectedly filled in by our ever shaking earth. At that point, our entire firmament will also be enshrouded with some real dusty ashes, while speedily producing real stagnant blackened clouds, that will be unable to empty themselves, due to the supernatural restraints that God shall place upon them. Furthermore, all unprotected life will then hastily cease, during those most foreboding, and darkest hours of God’s very worst fury; For all of the past vegetation of our greenest plains will then abruptly curl up into little balls, while quickly perishing very quick beneath the scorching rays of our sun that has gone more than crazy. And our planet will then immediately be stripped naked due to all of those combined happenings, that will rapidly lead to untold destruction. But after all those above horrid things have finally come to pass, only at that point shall our earth soon arise and shine, with our God’s most loving restoration. And the mortal remnant of our great tribulation era shall then always live together with immortal resurrected people, that shall no longer be male or female. And all of our Lord's elect shall then live evermore upon a blessed remade world, that will never pass away.

Book excerpt: In many societies today, the utterance of a simple phrase, "I am a Christian," is a crime punishable by death. So widespread is this persecution that Pope Francis called it a "third world war, waged piecemeal ]]a form of genocide." In "To the Martyrs: A Reflection on the Supreme Christian Witness," Cardinal Donald Wuerl urges solidarity with today's persecuted Christians and recounts the recurrence of martyrdom throughout Church history. His Eminence's poignant insight into the spirituality of martyrdom will challenge all Christians to courageously emulate the steadfast commitment of those who have followed Christeven unto death.
