Andrew Sanderson, brilliant surgeon and renowned musician, is still grieving the death of his beloved wife Mary when his younger daughter turns up on the doorstep having left her wealthy and philandering husband. It’s not long before the house is overrun with daughters, grandchildren, sons-in-law and a boisterous stray dog called Storm. At Andrew's time of life, is this really what he needs? One thing is sure, home is a lot more interesting than it once was. As he reminisces about his past and the love he once shared with his wife, Andrew starts to realize that there is indeed a new road to be travelled; he just has to let go of his grief and embrace tomorrow...

Book excerpt: A mother and daughter's search for hope and happiness after tragedy. Liverpool Love Song is a moving saga of family ties and true love, from much-loved author, Anne Baker. Perfect for fans of Dilly Court and Lyn Andrews. When Helen Redwood is tragically widowed, she and her daughter, Chloe, move to Liverpool to be closer to her family. But it is being in her beautiful garden with her handsome young gardener, Rex Kenwright, that saves Helen from grief. Rex is no stranger to bereavement himself but, while he finds comfort in Helen's company, it is seventeen-year-old Chloe who steals his heart. It is the swinging sixties, however, and Chloe has dreams of her own. When she announces that she is moving in with her boyfriend, Adam Livingstone, and there's a baby on the way she has no idea of the devastating effect this will have on those she loves. Nor does she realise the rocky road to happiness that lies ahead... What readers are saying about Liverpool Love Song: 'Lovely story, a comfy chair and a cup of tea for chill out time by yourself with this book. Anne Baker's books are books to get lost in, enjoyable read' 'Good book from the very first page to the very last'

Book excerpt: At times it appears that a whole industry exists to perpetuate the myth of origin of the Beatles. There certainly exists a popular music (or perhaps 'rock') origin myth concerning this group and the city of Liverpool and this draws in devotees, as if on a pilgrimage, to Liverpool itself. Once 'within' the city, local businesses exist primarily to escort these pilgrims around several almost iconic spaces and places associated with the group. At times it all almost seems 'spiritual'. One might argue however that, like any function myth, the music history of the Liverpool in which the Beatles grew and then departed is not fully represented. Beatles historians and businessmen-alike have seized upon myriad musical experiences and reworked them into a discourse that homogenizes not only the diverse collective articulations that initially put them into place, but also the receptive practices of those travellers willing to listen to a somewhat linear, exclusive narrative. Other Voices therefore exists as a history of the disparate and now partially hidden musical strands that contributed to Liverpool's musical countenance. It is also a critique of Beatles-related institutionalized popular music mythology. Via a critical historical investigation of several thus far partially hidden popular music activities in pre- and post-Second World War Liverpool, Michael Brocken reveals different yet intrinsic musical and socio-cultural processes from within the city of Liverpool. By addressing such 'scenes' as those involving dance bands, traditional jazz, folk music, country and western, and rhythm and blues, together with a consideration of partially hidden key places and individuals, and Liverpool's first 'real' record label, an assemblage of 'other voices' bears witness to an 'other', seldom discussed, Liverpool. By doing so, Brocken - born and raised in Liverpool - asks questions about not only the historicity of the Beatles-Liverpool narrative, but also about the absence o

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Folk Songs of Liverpool' is the new name for the book all about Liverpool folk songs - 'Liverpool Lyrics - the Book - the Dots!'. Both editors agreed after a certain time period had lapsed that the title needed to be a lot clearer, the title needed to directly reflect the book's contents, so what more apt than 'Folk Songs of Liverpool'. As with the first version, it contains all of the better known Liverpool folk songs - their histories, the lyrics, and a simple musical score showing the lyrics and notes / chords to the first verse and chorus. The book also expands - a little - on the writers and artistes that are considered the main exponents for each song. Some corrections have been made in this version, there is an extra song, and some minor sections dealing with peripheral matters have been deleted, but, the new book is much the same as the old one. Enjoy!

Recognised worldwide by its iconic red shirts and motto “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, the club has built a legend that resonates across every continent. This book explores the essence of being part of the Liverpool family, from the eras of Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley, who elevated the club to a global powerhouse, to the modern era under Jurgen Klopp, who has restored the team to the pinnacle of European football. In addition to the triumphs on the pitch, the book delves into the culture that defines Liverpool FC, including the passion of its fans, the traditions that shape its identity, and the intense rivalries that make every game an epic battle. Combining history, culture and emotion, this book is a celebration of one of the greatest clubs of all time, designed to inspire the same passion that has driven Liverpool FC to living legend status.

Book excerpt: This ebook edition contains the full text version as per the book. Doesn't include original photographic and illustrated material. OUR LIVERPOOL is an oral history about the real Liverpool - about the city before its slick transformation to European City of Culture and about the spirit that remains at its heart. Here, at last, is Liverpool's grievous and glorious past. And here, through the people's voices, we find old Liverpool, without the gift-wrap. Its stories pulsate with the rhythms of an alternately funny, flippant, belligerent, stubborn and warm heart, and they broadcast the values of a community, which are the city's true legacy to the modern world. Piers Dudgeon has listened to dozens of people who remember the city as it was, and who have lived through its many changes. They talk of childhood and education, of work and entertainment, of family, community values, health, politics, religion and music. Their stories will make you laugh and cry. It is people's own memories that make history real and this engrossing book captures them vividly.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The one-hit wonder has a long and storied history in popular music, exhorting listeners to dance, to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony, to ponder mortality, to get a job, to bask in the sunshine, or just to get up and dance again. Catchy, memorable, irritating, or simply ubiquitous, one-hit wonders capture something of the mood of a time. This collection provides a series of short, sharp chapters focusing on one-hit wonders from the 1950s to the present day, with a view toward understanding both the mechanics of success and the socio-musical contexts within which such songs became hits. Some artists included here might have aspired to success but only managed one hit, while others enjoyed lengthy, if unremarkable, careers after their initial chart success. Put together, these chapters provide not only a capsule history of popular music tastes, but also ruminations on the changing nature of the music industry and the mechanics of fame.
