Her husband was Clement Shorter, an English journalist; they lived in London. Her works include: Verses (1893), The Fairy Changeling, and Other Poems (1898), Ballads and Poems (1899), The Woman Who Went to Hell, and Other Ballads and Lyrics (1902), The Country-House Party (1905), The Story and Song of Black Roderick (1906), Collected Poems (1907), The Troubadour and Other Poems (1910), The Sad Years (1919), Sixteen Dead Men, and Other Poems of Easter Week (1919), A Legend of Glendalough, and Other Ballads (1921), Love of Ireland: Poems and Ballads (1921) and The Tricolour: Poems of the Irish Revolution (1922).

Book excerpt: Uncovering the hidden history of poetry written by women in Ireland from 1870 to 1970, this anthology includes more than 180 poems by fifteen women with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and creative aims. Challenging the assumption that women wrote little poetry of note during this period, this rich and original collection reveals the range of their achievement and the lasting value of their work. Presented alongside biographical sketches of their authors, the poems span the political and the personal. From nationalist ballads to modernist lyrics, this book is an essential resource for students and scholars of Irish literature.
