Book excerpt: This poetic fiction (based on true story) in the form of free verses is a loose translation of renowned author Satya Mohan Joshi's poetry entitled Nepal-ya Rastriye Bibhuti Kalakar Arniko-ya Sweta Chaitya in Nepal Bhasa language, published by Nepal Bhasa Parishad, Kathmandu, Nepal in 1984. The story is about Arniko (1244-1306), a Nepalese architect who crossed the Himalayas more than 700 years ago and designed and built many masterpieces in China and settled there. During the period of Emperor Hu Pi Le's rule in China, Nepal was requested to dispatch 100 fine artists for the construction of Golden Stupa in Tibet. 80 fine artists were sent under the leadership of Arniko. Impressed by his skills, teacher Pasapa took him to emperor's court in Beijing (then Da Du). There, he rose from one position to another throughout his life. Different emperors decorated him with titles such as Ta Sa Thu (equivalent of a minister). He was honored even after his death. The most important project Arniko undertook was the construction of the White Dagoba. Built in eight years (1271-79), it has withstood thousands of storms and thunderstorms and remains a striking feature of Beijing's skyline. Designated as a historical treasure after the foundation of People's Republic of China and known as Bai Ta or Miao Ying Temple, it is open to tourists. The readers will experience as if listening to a tourist guide telling a curious story in broken language. And this book will be informative to tourists and all.

Book Synopsis Seamus Heaney's Gifts by : Henry Hart
Download or read book Seamus Heaney's Gifts written by Henry Hart and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2024-12-13 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The fact of the matter,” Seamus Heaney said in a 1997 interview with the Paris Review, “is that the most unexpected and miraculous thing in my life was the arrival in it of poetry.” Throughout his career, Heaney, who received the 1995 Nobel Prize in Literature, maintained that poetry came to him from a mysterious source like a gift of grace. He also believed that the recipient of this sort of boon had an ethical obligation to share it with others. Seamus Heaney’s Gifts, by the noted scholar and poet Henry Hart, offers the first comprehensive examination of Heaney’s preoccupation with gifts and gift-exchange. Drawing on extensive research in Heaney’s papers, as well as three decades of correspondence with the poet, Hart presents a richly detailed study of Heaney’s life and work that foregrounds the Irishman’s commitment to the vocation of poetry as a public art to be shared with audiences and readers around the world. Heaney traced his devotion to gifts back to the actual present of a Conway Stewart fountain pen that his parents gave him at the age of twelve when he left his family farm in Northern Ireland to attend a private Catholic secondary school in Londonderry. He commemorated this gift in “Digging,” the first poem in his first book, and in two poems he wrote near the end of his life: “The Conway Stewart” and “On the Gift of a Fountain Pen.” Friends and doctors had warned him that his endless globetrotting to give lectures and poetry readings had damaged his health. Yet he felt obligated to share his talent with audiences around the world until his death in 2013. As Hart shows, Heaney found his first models for gift-giving in his rural community in Northern Ireland, the Bible, the rituals of the Catholic Church, and the literature of mystical and mythical quests. Blending careful research with evocative commentaries on the poet’s work, Seamus Heaney’s Gifts explains his ideas about the artist’s gift, the necessity of gift-exchange acts, and the moral responsibility to share one’s talents for the benefit of others.

Download or read book A Leader's Gift written by Barry Banther and published by Greenleaf Book Group. This book was released on 2014-04-22 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You can no longer count on old motivational tricks to inspire loyalty among your associates. The rules of leading have changed, and now you must be able to take a diverse team and win with them quickly. Barry Banther knows how to equip you for today’s business world because he knows what lasting leadership is made of. He has identified five qualities that aren’t things leaders have; rather, they are things they give away freely and frequently to everyone they lead in the workplace. By embracing and demonstrating the five qualities expounded in this book, you will become a leader who brings out the best in your associates, whether you’re a new manager or you occupy a C-suite office. Banther consults with and trains the teams of CEOs of family-owned as well as Fortune 100 companies. He has been the lead consultant on more than 400 leadership development engagements and has written 50-plus leadership training programs that are used by companies worldwide. After a career in broadcasting and, later, teaching and administration at the college level, Banther served three Florida governors as their appointee to oversee private higher education and was elected to an unprecedented three terms as chairman of the Florida State Board of Independent Colleges and Universities. Having learned the hard way—caring about numbers rather than people—Banther can tell you with confidence that when leaders put others first they themselves become more valuable to their team and their company than any authority or job title could ever mandate! That’s also the best way to grow your bottom line: deploy the right people with the right skills at the right time to create loyal and repeat customers!
