This book was released on 1990 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume seeks to offer a new way of reading A la Recherche du Temps Perdu, using a fluid manner of interpretation which suggests process rather than product. This study contends that everything in Proust's work is threefold. The middle term is the common ground shared by the two terms of comparison that constitute a metaphor.

Book Synopsis The Children of Time by : Rémy Lestienne
Download or read book The Children of Time written by Rémy Lestienne and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A work of scientific substance and critical wisdom, developed in the urbane idiom of a French scholar." -- J. T. Fraser, founder, International Society for the Study of Time "This is the book for those of us who couldn't wade completely through Hawking's A Brief History of Time and now have it collecting dust on our bookshelves. Well written, thought-provoking, and, most important, understandable." -- Michael Epstein, analytical spectroscopist/chemist, National Institute of Standards and Technology What is time? Does it really pass? These and other fascinating questions about the nature of time animate a continuing philosophical and scientific debate. In this popular French book, now available for the first time in English; my Lestienne moves to make the bewildering concepts of time accessible--and interesting. He uses Galileo, Newton, Einstein, and others to demonstrate how the concepts of causality and entropy became so pervasive that they eventually were substituted for time itself. He also shows how recent advances in astronomy, particle physics, developmental life sciences, and the neurosciences are helping to shape a new philosophical vision of time.
Book Synopsis Of Minstrelsy and Masks by : Christine Matzke
Download or read book Of Minstrelsy and Masks written by Christine Matzke and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2006 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection is dedicated to a distinguished scholar and writer who for a quarter of a century wrote consistently on African literature and the arts and was a major voice in Nigerian literary circles. Ezenwa-Ohaeto made a mark in contemporary Nigerian poetry by committing pidgin to written form and, by so doing, introducing different creative patterns. He also saw himself as a 'minstrel', as someone who wanted to read, express and enact his work before an audience. First and foremost, however, Ezenwa-Ohaeto was someone who 'un-masked' ideas and meanings hidden in the folds of literary works and made them available to an international academic public. With his outstanding work on Chinua Achebe, he influenced the reception of African literary biography. His networks and connections were extensive and wide-ranging, and they are partly reflected in the essays, creative writing and personal notes assembled in this volume. In their various modes and expressions, the contributions included here constitute a tribute to Ezenwa-Ohaeto's many talents and achievements. As an extension of Ezenwa-Ohaeto's legacy, they expand on various aspects of minstrelsy and the un/masking of texts in a Nigerian and broader African context. The book is divided into six sections. "In Memoriam" contains personal tributes by long-standing colleagues, mentors and friends. "Poetry and Fiction" collects the voices of three generations of Nigerian writing from the 1960s to the present day, followed by poetic and pictorial insights into the domestic and social life of the scholar and family man. Section Four comprises two interviews, while Sections Five and Six are devoted to critical evaluations of Ezenwa-Ohaeto's work and to contemporary perspectives on Nigerian literature respectively.

Download or read book Magique cosmos written by Tim James and published by Dunod. This book was released on 2021-04-14 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Memory of Nature in Aboriginal, Canadian and American Contexts by : Françoise Besson
Download or read book The Memory of Nature in Aboriginal, Canadian and American Contexts written by Françoise Besson and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-06-12 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume engages the reader’s interest in the relationship that binds man to nature, a relationship which makes itself manifest through certain literary or visual artefacts produced by Native or non-Native writers and artists. It ranges from the study of literatures (mainly from Canada – including Quebec and Acadia – but also from Britain, the United States of America, France, Turkey, and Australia) to the exploration of films, photographs, paintings and sculptures produced by Aboriginal artists from North America. Thanks to a relational paradigm founded on spatial and temporal enlargement, it re-imagines the critical outlook on indigenous production by instigating a dialogue between endogenous and exogenous scholars, novelists and artists, and by weaving together interdisciplinary approaches spanning anthropology, geology, ecocriticism and the study of myths. From the writings by Scott Momaday to those by Tomson Highway, from Pauline Johnson to Louise Erdrich, or from the photographs by William McFarlane Notman and Edward Burtynsky or the films by Randy Redroad to the paintings by Emily Carr, it explores art as the sedimentation of nature. It simultaneously interrogates the representation of nature and the nature of representation as a geological and generic process inscribed in the history of mankind. Without eclipsing differences and imposing a reified Eurocentric critical discourse upon indigenous productions, this volume does not colonize indigenous texts or indulge in cultural appropriation of works of art, but looks for historical, mythological or geological traces of the past; a past characterized by the intimacy between man and animal, man and rock, or man and plant, a past which is allowed to resurface through the creative and critical outlooks that are bestowed upon its subjacent or subterranean existence. It resurfaces, not as nostalgic memory but as an interactive fertilization giving the present a new life in which the non-human provides a key to the understanding of the human bond to nature.
