Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What country holds the title as the world's smallest continent and yet the world's largest island? I stands for island, but one that's not too small. Our island is enormous. Just try to see it all! There's no place else quite like it; that is clearly true. Australia is a continent, but it's an island, too. Originally founded as a penal colony, Australia has long been known for its contrasts (think: wild outback and sophisticated Sydney Opera House). Accompanied by vibrant colorful artwork, D is for Down Under: An Australia Alphabet captures the spirit of this proud country and its many treasures, natural and man-made. Visit spectacular Sydney Harbor, try your hand as a jackaroo working a sheep station, or just sit back and enjoy a Vegemite sandwich. Below the starry night glitter of the Southern Cross constellation, Australia's "down under" wonders shine brightly. Devin Scillian is an award-winning author and Emmy-award-winning broadcast journalist. His books with Sleeping Bear Press include the national bestseller A is for America: An American Alphabet. Devin lives in Michigan and anchors the news for WDIV-TV in Detroit. Geoff Cook has been illustrating for 35 years. His career began as a graphic designer, after graduating from Prahran College in Melbourne. Soon realizing he wanted to be an illustrator, he became a partner in the illustration studio All Australian Graffiti. He lives in Australia.

Book excerpt: It is the driest, flattest, hottest, most desiccated, infertile and climatically aggressive of all the inhabited continents and still Australia teems with life - a large portion of it quite deadly. In fact, Australia has more things that can kill you in a very nasty way than anywhere else. Ignoring such dangers - and yet curiously obsessed by them - Bill Bryson journeyed to Australia and promptly fell in love with the country. And who can blame him? The people are cheerful, extrovert, quick-witted and unfailingly obliging: their cities are safe and clean and nearly always built on water; the food is excellent; the beer is cold and the sun nearly always shines. Life doesn't get much better than this...

Book excerpt: Kollin L. Taylor went on a business trip to Australia in July, 2013. However, before he had even gotten off the plane, he was inspired to begin writing about the magnificent continent. But the purpose of his trip was also a part of his walk with God as he tries to help make the world a better place, even if all he had to offer at times was the greeting of the day and a smile. One of the most memorable parts of his trip was the time spent with an aborigine named Murruppi, the artist who donated the artwork on the cover and inside of this book. If you are interested in learning more about him, aboriginal culture, and aboriginal art, visit www.murruppi.com. Book excerpt: Travel Tales: Down Under -- Australia & New Zealand Is a collection of travel stories of among the travel world's most favorite destinations. Without a doubt, Australia, New Zealand also known affectionately as Downunder), as well as nearby neighboring islands of the South Pacific are to be sure among my favorite destinations in the world to visit. The travel stories in this book about this area of the world are basically divided into a number of geographic parts. When asked to share their most interesting travel tales of visits to Downunder and other nearby island nations, it is no surprise that in addition to some of the more touristy stuff, there are some interesting metaphysical-related stories of visitors to tell as well since, simply stated, this part of the world does also have its own share of the psychic and paranormal aspects that affect visitors to just about anywhere. There are also a few travelers' tales about some of the not-so-pleasant aspects of travel to these areas as well. So, it is only fitting that I provide some of these stories for you too -- be they as they may -- since these are the tales that travelers feel are important enough and therefore want to share with you. Mostly, your own Downunder travels will typically be interesting, exciting, rewarding, safe, and without incident, but odd and unpleasant things can and do happen on rare occasions in your travels, and visiting the Southern Pacific is certainly no exception. To be sure, with its marvelous food and drink, artwork, architecture, museums, and magnificent natural scenery, Downunder with its great cities and natural vistas has so much to offer. It is also one of our purposes of the True Travel Tales series to provide a cross-section of travel life in the world's most popular cities and countries, but along with the good comes occasionally a portion of the bad as well. In the True Travel Tales series, we aim to pull no punches. You'll see the good and best sides of the world and its cities as well as some of the rarer possibly negative and regrettable travel aspects in this area of the world as well.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Deception Down Under, an American student pilot enrolled in a flight training program on the Space Coast of Florida, is lured into smuggling drugs into the country for a powerful Columbian cocaine cartel out of Miami. This young man went from a young naïve college student, studying aviation management to a full-time pilot for a Columbian cocaine cartel which paid him very well to smuggle drugs into the U.S. from the Bahamas in a twin-engine airplane. The initial glamour and power of the drug world is deceiving until he was arrested and set up to look like a witness against the cartel by a testimony fabricated by his co-defendant. He was lured into doing this in 1984 in Florida at a well known surf spot in the “Space Coast” called Sebastian Inlet. It all seemed so simple and he was living in a utopia world not thinking he was ever going to get caught. It was not until after making a lot of money, and acquiring a glamorous lifestyle that everything did fall apart and he was trapped between the cartel and the law. Afraid for his life, he decided to adopt a new identity and escaped from America to start another life for himself in Australia. He fled to Australia where he re-established himself and built a new exotic life in Queensland on the Gold Coast. The large frontier Down Under is a new test of all of his will to survive on his own in a foreign country where he is a total stranger. As a result of intensive surveillance, monitoring his parents mail, and phone taps, the FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION uncovered his deception. He eventually was placed on the F.B.I.’s Top 10 Most Wanted list and was tracked to Australia where he was eventually deported to Hawaii, and later deported back to the mainland of the UNITED STATES to face drug charges and accept the reality of incarceration. Once imprisoned, he builds an inner strength and knowledge of life that changed him forever. All of these scenarios combined formed a barrier which was very difficult to overcome. In additon, it destroyed the life which he was meant to have as a respected professional and placed overwhelming anxiety and emotional strain on his family. The book is being written to describe the upheaval that occurred in this young man’s life through the use of drugs and the importation of drugs into this country, successfully utilizing the multi-level marketing network which he had developed. It also describes the awesome task of re-entering his former life, now carrying additional baggage, and the struggle he faces in assimilating a REAL LIFE. His story is a powerful testimony for others to learn from, because so many people in today’s world are vulnerable to the deception of “easy money,” whether in the drug culture on Wall Street or main street. It is also a compelling adventure story from the standpoint of someone recreating a life for himself and then being allowed to live it. The underlying theme of the story is that “YOU CAN NOT LIVE A LIE. You cannot discover your own reality until you go back and reweave the fabric of your life.
