Herein will be found a history of the growth of the Postoffice Department, beginning in early times in England, and tracing it down in this country to the present day. A history also of the Railway Mail Service is given at considerable length, in order to be most helpful to those who wish to enter the Railway Mail Service. We have had the experience of a railway mail clerk written from the time he entered the service as a substitute until he became a proficient clerk, having charge of a car. This clerk was afterwards promoted to the Postoffice Department in this city, where he holds a position at the time of this writing.
