Book Synopsis Wideband, Interferometric Spectrum Analyzer by : Manhar L. Shah
Download or read book Wideband, Interferometric Spectrum Analyzer written by Manhar L. Shah and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An interferometric acousto-optic spectrum analyzer system is configured in which the light signal is made proportional to the amplitude of the RF signal, thereby doubling the dynamic range in dB over the Bragg cell spectrum analyzer. In an experimental system a 40% increase in dynamic range was observed. Several schemes to generate a reference beam and obtain constant frequency interference beats are discussed. The theoretical and experimental dynamic range of noninterferometric and interferometric acousto-optic Bragg cell spectrum analyzers are determined. Experimentally, we have observed 58 dB dynamic range for a cw signal and 54 dB dynamic range for a 5 micro sec pulse signal. A short pulse of 60 ns length was detected with 20 dB dynamic range, 100% probability of intercept and less than 1 micro sec time-of-arrival accuracy. The system bandwidth was close to 250 MHz with 3.5 MHz frequency resolution. The spuriour level was below 50 dB. The system used a 5 mW HeNe laser in a Mach-Zehnder configuration. Discrete Si photodetectors with a fiber optic array were used in the experiment.
Book Synopsis Applied Optics Fundamentals and Device Applications by : Mark A. Mentzer
Download or read book Applied Optics Fundamentals and Device Applications written by Mark A. Mentzer and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does the field of optical engineering impact biotechnology? Perhaps for the first time, Applied Optics Fundamentals and Device Applications: Nano, MOEMS, and Biotechnology answers that question directly by integrating coverage of the many disciplines and applications involved in optical engineering, and then examining their applications in nanobiotechnology. Written by a senior U.S. Army research scientist and pioneer in the field of optical engineering, this book addresses the exponential growth in materials, applications, and cross-functional relevance of the many convergent disciplines making optical engineering possible, including nanotechnology, MEMS, (MOEMS), and biotechnology. Integrates Coverage of MOEMS, Optics, and Nanobiotechnology—and Their Market Applications Providing an unprecedented interdisciplinary perspective of optics technology, this book describes everything from core principles and fundamental relationships, to emerging technologies and practical application of devices and systems—including fiber-optic sensors, integrated and electro-optics, and specialized military applications. The author places special emphasis on: Fiber sensor systems Electro-optics and acousto-optics Optical computing and signal processing Optical device performance Thin film magnetic memory MEMS, MOEMS, nano- and bionanotechnologies Optical diagnostics and imaging Integrated optics Design constraints for materials, manufacturing, and application space Bridging the technology gaps between interrelated fields, this reference is a powerful tool for students, engineers and scientists in the electrical, chemical, mechanical, biological, aerospace, materials, and optics fields. Its value also extends to applied physicists and professionals interested in the relationships between emerging technologies and cross-disciplinary opportunities. Author Mark A. Mentzer is a pioneer in the field of optical engineering. He is a senior research scientist at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory in Maryland. Much of his current work involves extending the fields of optical engineering and solid state physics into the realm of biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as structured research in biophotonics.

Book Synopsis Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by : Wade H. Shafer
Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 32 (thesis year 1987) a total of 12,483 theses titles from 22 Canadian and 176 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 32 reports theses submitted in 1987, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
