VARIOUS PUBLIC BODIES. OF the statutes which may be brought under contribution for the purposes of this chapter, the most important place may be properly assigned to the "Lighting and Watching Act,1833," (3 & 4 Will. IV., 90.) This Act may be adopted in parishes, and for the guidance of persons taking part in meetings called to consider its adoption, there are various provisions ( 5--16): whilst a separate series of sections prescribes the mode of electing the Inspectors who carry out the Act ( 17--21): and other sections, the various arrangements as to the transaction of their business ( 22--4, &c.) Inasmuch, however, as the Act stands very much by itself, and as a copy of it must necessarily be in the hands of all concerned, either in taking steps to adopt it, or in working it, I do not propose to go into any details here. The "Petty Sessions and Lock-up House Act, 1868,"" (31 & 32 Vict., 22.) 11, authorises any Local Authority under the Act to delegate its powers to a committee.
