Book Synopsis A Grand Metamorphosis by : Peter Selg
Download or read book A Grand Metamorphosis written by Peter Selg and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2008-09 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Journal for Star Wisdom 2013 includes articles of interest concerning star wisdom (Astrosophy), as well as a guide to the correspondences between stellar configurations during the life of Christ and those of today. This guide comprises a complete sidereal ephemeris and aspectarian, geocentric and heliocentric, for each day throughout the year. Published yearly, new editions are available beginning in November for the coming new year. According to Rudolf Steiner, every step taken by Christ during his ministry between the baptism in the Jordan and the resurrection was in harmony with-and an expression of-the cosmos. Journal for Star Wisdom is concerned with these heavenly correspondences during the life of Christ. It is intended to help provide a foundation for cosmic Christianity, the cosmic dimension of Christianity. It is this dimension that has been missing from Christianity in its two-thousand-year history. Readers can begin on this path by contemplating the movements of the Sun, Moon, and planets against the background of the zodiacal constellations (sidereal signs) today in relation to corresponding stellar events during the life of Christ. In this way, the possibility is opened for attuning, in a living way, to the life of Christ in the etheric cosmos. In this year's journal there is an article by David Bowden and Robert Powell on the new science of Astrogeographia concerning the location of the seven planetary chakras of the Earth. David Tresemer's article examines the significance of Neptune in world events, and William Bento offers important perspectives on the dark shadows of Neptune. There is also an article by Wain Farrants and Robert Powell continuing the discussion of the house systems in astrology begun by Brian Gray in the 2012 issue. Kevin Dann focuses on the 33-1/3 -year rhythm, and Lacquanna Paul has written about Divine Sophia in relation to the zodiac. Brian Gray contributed an article on his discovery of the zodiac in the Raphael Madonna series as arranged by Rudolf Steiner. The monthly commentaries for 2013 by Claudia McLaren Lainson are preceded by her article on the Jupiter-Pluto opposition in 2013. The commentaries are supported by monthly astronomical previews provided by Sally Nurney, offering opportunities to physically observe and experience the stellar configurations during 2013. This direct interaction between the human being on Earth and the heavenly beings of the stars develops the capacity to receive their wisdom-filled teachings.
Book Synopsis Hong Kong Metamorphosis by : Denis Bray
Download or read book Hong Kong Metamorphosis written by Denis Bray and published by Hong Kong University Press. This book was released on 2001-11-01 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apart from eleven years in England for school, university and National Service, and a three-year 'overseas posting' as Hong Kong Commissioner in London, Denis Bray has lived all his life in Hong Kong and China. The metamorphosis is of the man himself as he grew up from childhood, through adolescence to become an administrator in Hong Kong for thirty-five years. It is also the story of Hong Kong's emergence from near death after the Second World War to become one of the major cities in Asia. The story is told as an autobiography, from growing up in China to the occasional brief occupation of the Governor's seat. In the early days, 'administration' was rather a grand word to describe the daily grappling with novel problems never before encountered. In fact, it is difficult to detect any onset of routine. In this life, as in the life of Hong Kong itself, change and challenge were the only constants.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a time not far from our own, Lawrence sets out simply to build an artifical intelligence that can pass as human, and finds himself instead with one that can pass as a god. Taking the Three Laws of Robotics literally, Prime Intellect makes every human immortal and provides instantly for every stated human desire. Caroline finds no meaning in this life of purposeless ease, and forgets her emptiness only in moments of violent and profane exhibitionism. At turns shocking and humorous, "Prime Intellect" looks unflinchingly at extremes of human behavior that might emerge when all limits are removed. An international Internet phenomenon, "Prime Intellect" has been downloaded more than 10,000 times since its free release in January 2003. It has been read and discussed in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Slovenia, South Africa, and other countries. Book Synopsis The Metamorphosis of the World by : Ulrich Beck
Download or read book The Metamorphosis of the World written by Ulrich Beck and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-09-02 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in a world that is increasingly difficult to understand. It is not just changing: it is metamorphosing. Change implies that some things change but other things remain the same capitalism changes, but some aspects of capitalism remain as they always were. Metamorphosis implies a much more radical transformation in which the old certainties of modern society are falling away and something quite new is emerging. To grasp this metamorphosis of the world it is necessary to explore the new beginnings, to focus on what is emerging from the old and seek to grasp future structures and norms in the turmoil of the present. Take climate change: much of the debate about climate change has focused on whether or not it is really happening, and if it is, what we can do to stop or contain it. But this emphasis on solutions blinds us to the fact that climate change is an agent of metamorphosis. It has already altered our way of being in the world the way we live in the world, think about the world and seek to act upon the world through our actions and politics. Rising sea levels are creating new landscapes of inequality drawing new world maps whose key lines are not traditional boundaries between nation-states but elevations above sea level. It is creating an entirely different way of conceptualizing the world and our chances of survival within it. The theory of metamorphosis goes beyond theory of world risk society: it is not about the negative side effects of goods but the positive side effects of bads. They produce normative horizons of common goods and propel us beyond the national frame towards a cosmopolitan outlook.

Book Synopsis Metamorphoses of the City by : Pierre Manent
Download or read book Metamorphoses of the City written by Pierre Manent and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2013-09-23 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the best way to govern ourselves? The history of the West has been shaped by the struggle to answer this question, according to Pierre Manent. A major achievement by one of Europe's most influential political philosophers, Metamorphoses of the City is a sweeping interpretation of Europe's ambition since ancient times to generate ever better forms of collective self-government, and a reflection on what it means to be modern. Manent's genealogy of the nation-state begins with the Greek city-state, the polis. With its creation, humans ceased to organize themselves solely by family and kinship systems and instead began to live politically. Eventually, as the polis exhausted its possibilities in warfare and civil strife, cities evolved into empires, epitomized by Rome, and empires in turn gave way to the universal Catholic Church and finally the nation-state. Through readings of Aristotle, Augustine, Montaigne, and others, Manent charts an intellectual history of these political forms, allowing us to see that the dynamic of competition among them is a central force in the evolution of Western civilization. Scarred by the legacy of world wars, submerged in an increasingly technical transnational bureaucracy, indecisive in the face of proliferating crises of representative democracy, the European nation-state, Manent says, is nearing the end of its line. What new metamorphosis of the city will supplant it remains to be seen.
Book Synopsis Nymph-Fishing Rivers & Streams by : Rick Hafele
Download or read book Nymph-Fishing Rivers & Streams written by Rick Hafele and published by Stackpole Books. This book was released on 2006 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Includes a 72-minute DVD demonstrating basic nymph fishing techniques Color photo sequences to teach 11 different nymph fishing methods, including Czech, hinged leader, Leisenring lift, and wet-fly swing Detailed information on imitating mayflies, stoneflies, caddisflies, true flies, scuds, and sow bugs In nature nothing happens without a reason. The difficulty for the angler is merely that the reason is hidden some way beneath the surface.--G. E. M. Skues During the considerable periods of time trout spend feeding exclusively on underwater food forms, nymph fishing can be the most productive, if not the only way to catch fish. But understanding what occurs below the water's surface can be a challenge for even the most experienced angler. In Nymph-Fishing Rivers and Streams, aquatic entomologist and long-time fly fisherman Rick Hafele shares the information necessary to successfully decipher the mysteries of trout life. He starts by explaining their feeding patterns--where trout feed, when they feed, and what's available for them to eat. Sections on tackle and pattern selection help anglers sort through equipment and imitations to find the best outfit for their needs. The DVD complements the photos in the book that show various methods for nymph fishing. Also included is an angler's field guide to nymphs with details on their habitat, importance to trout, and the most effective patterns and fishing tactics to imitate them.

Book Synopsis On the Feminist Philosophy of Gillian Howie by : Daniel Whistler
Download or read book On the Feminist Philosophy of Gillian Howie written by Daniel Whistler and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over three decades, Gillian Howie wrote at the forefront of philosophy and critical theory, before her untimely death in 2013. This interdisciplinary collection uses her writings to explore the productive, yet often resistant, interrelationship between feminism and critical theory, examining the potential of Howie's particular form of materialism. The contributors also bring to this debate a serious engagement with Howie's late turn towards philosophies of mortality, therapy and 'living with dying'. The volume considers how differently embodied subjects are positioned within public institutions, discourses and spaces, and the role of philosophy, art, film, photography, and literature, in facing situations such as sexual oppression and life-limiting illness.

Book Synopsis I Am for Going Ahead by : Peter Selg
Download or read book I Am for Going Ahead written by Peter Selg and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We must be filled with a profound awe for everything human, even in our memories and recollections." -- Rudolf Steiner, How to Know Higher Worlds At the age of six, Claire Blatchford lost her hearing. Gradually, as she grew accustomed to her new state of being in the world, she found herself developing a new organ of inner perception and connection. Thoughts and realities spoke to her with an "inner voice." In earlier works--beginning with Turning--she recounted some of what she heard, and she explained how she entered a path of meditative practice to strengthen her ability to receive what she was given. Experiences with the Dying and the Dead explores another aspect of inner perception through a series of personal stories of experiences around and across the threshold between life and death. Claire Blatchford writes: "The dead are all around and are as much our neighbors as the family next door, the tree at the corner, and the birds on the feeder. We need not be on speaking terms with all our neighbors, but the recognition of their presence, if only in the form of a nod, a smile, or a thought of appreciation or thanks, can go a long way. When we acknowledge each other, we affirm and quicken life in each other. Though we may not be able to see the dead inwardly or outwardly, openness of their presence means a great deal to them." By opening to the presence of the dead, the veil between the worlds becomes thinner, and our inner eyes and ears open in new ways. We awaken to a new world--the community of human beings on both sides of the threshold.
