Así, para todos y cada uno de los ejercicios de Word Formation y Language Points del libro base, se encuentra la explicación de los puntos gramaticales correspondientes en este Grammar Companion. De esta forma se trata de facilitar la tarea de los estudiante, teniendo en cuenta, principalmente, sus necesidades y su situación particular como alumnos de la UNED. La primera sección de cada capítulo (Word Formation) está dedicada a la morfología, y la segunda (Language Points) es, principalmente, que incluye usos del inglés actual y estándar. En general, se proporcionan explicaciones simples y precisas, acompañadas de ejemplos ilustrativos y en muchos casos, de comentarios sobre aspectos particulares del uso de la lengua inglesa desde el punto de vista pragmático-discursivo, con el objeto de contribuir al aprendizaje de la lenguaje real en su uso cotidiano. En algunas ocasiones se hace referencia a las diferencias entre el inglés británico y el americano, por considerarse éstas las dos variedades con mayor difusión de la lengua inglesa. Asimismo, se tiene en cuenta permanentemente a lo largo de esta obra el hecho de que la gran mayoría de los estudiantes de la UNED son hablantes de español como lengua materna, y, por lo tanto, las explicaciones se han orientado de forma pedagógica siguiendo un enfoque contrastivo.
