Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The worldwide trend towards privatisation, liberalisation and globalisation has produced substantial economic benefits. Nevertheless, liberalisation has had its shortcomings and there are potential threats to further progress, including in particular an anti-liberalisation backlash. Continuing progress depends on the ability to articulate a clear vision of the positive effects of global liberalisation and to establish institutions and policies which can help realise that vision. Reversing globalisation would harm the world's poorest inhabitants. Professor Calomiris, well known for his work on national and international financial markets, examines the successes and failures of recent global liberalisation and derives a 'globalist manifesto' for public policy. His paper is a revised version of the tenth annual IEA Hayek Memorial Lecture given in July 2001.

Download or read book Localization written by Colin Hines and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Localization is a manifesto to unite all those who recognize the importance of cultural, social and ecological diversity for our future - and who do not aspire to a monolithic global consumer culture. It is a passionate and persuasive polemic, challenging the claims that we have to be 'internationally competitive' to survive and describing the destructive consequences of globalization. This book is unique in going beyond simply criticizing free trade and globalization trends. It details self-reinforcing policies to create local self-sufficiency and shows clearly that there is an alternative to globalization - to protect the local, globally.

Book Synopsis The Next Great Globalization by : Frederic S. Mishkin
Download or read book The Next Great Globalization written by Frederic S. Mishkin and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2009-10-08 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many prominent critics regard the international financial system as the dark side of globalization, threatening disadvantaged nations near and far. But in The Next Great Globalization, eminent economist Frederic Mishkin argues the opposite: that financial globalization today is essential for poor nations to become rich. Mishkin argues that an effectively managed financial globalization promises benefits on the scale of the hugely successful trade and information globalizations of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This financial revolution can lift developing nations out of squalor and increase the wealth and stability of emerging and industrialized nations alike. By presenting an unprecedented picture of the potential benefits of financial globalization, and by showing in clear and hard-headed terms how these gains can be realized, Mishkin provides a hopeful vision of the next phase of globalization. Mishkin draws on historical examples to caution that mismanagement of financial globalization, often aided and abetted by rich elites, can wreak havoc in developing countries, but he uses these examples to demonstrate how better policies can help poor nations to open up their economies to the benefits of global investment. According to Mishkin, the international community must provide incentives for developing countries to establish effective property rights, banking regulations, accounting practices, and corporate governance--the institutions necessary to attract and manage global investment. And the West must be a partner in integrating the financial systems of rich and poor countries--to the benefit of both. The Next Great Globalization makes the case that finance will be a driving force in the twenty-first-century economy, and demonstrates how this force can and should be shaped to the benefit of all, especially the disadvantaged nations most in need of growth and prosperity.
Book Synopsis The Anti-Globalist Manifesto by : Jerome R. Corsi
Download or read book The Anti-Globalist Manifesto written by Jerome R. Corsi and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2024-08-13 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his new book, The Anti-Globalist Manifesto: Ending the War on Humanity, bestselling author Jerome Corsi puts out a call for action to reverse the totalitarian goals of the New World Order globalists. Corsi addresses that these demons are well advanced in their planned “One World Government” takeover aimed at establishing an atheistic utopia that will have no respect for traditional human rights. Comfortable that their transhuman aspirations are achievable, the Malthusian elite is waging a war on humanity that embraces global depopulation as a means of preventing Earth's abundant natural resources for themselves. Tracing this dystopian nightmare back to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 23, 1963, as the day the deep state went rogue in a conspiracy involving the CIA, the Pentagon, the State Department, and the Department of Justice to affect a coup d'état that would allow the military industrial complex to go to war in Vietnam, the deep state has created an ongoing Truman Show—a series of never-ending psychological operations designed to induce citizens worldwide to surrender freedoms to government in return for security. With the premise that the globalist elite uses systems of mass manipulation and social engineering to induce the world's population to accept the implementation of the "reforms" it has already decided to implement, Corsi sets a detailed plan for organizing global resistance against the subversives who now sit at the top of the institutions or world government and finance. The Anti-Globalist Manifesto is a call to action to restore God to our lives, as those of us fighting for a return to personal freedoms and limited government, ending the war on humanity and driving once and for all time the New World Order globalists back to Hell where they belong.

Book Synopsis The Fourth Industrial Revolution by : Klaus Schwab
Download or read book The Fourth Industrial Revolution written by Klaus Schwab and published by Currency. This book was released on 2017-01-03 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World-renowned economist Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, explains that we have an opportunity to shape the fourth industrial revolution, which will fundamentally alter how we live and work. Schwab argues that this revolution is different in scale, scope and complexity from any that have come before. Characterized by a range of new technologies that are fusing the physical, digital and biological worlds, the developments are affecting all disciplines, economies, industries and governments, and even challenging ideas about what it means to be human. Artificial intelligence is already all around us, from supercomputers, drones and virtual assistants to 3D printing, DNA sequencing, smart thermostats, wearable sensors and microchips smaller than a grain of sand. But this is just the beginning: nanomaterials 200 times stronger than steel and a million times thinner than a strand of hair and the first transplant of a 3D printed liver are already in development. Imagine “smart factories” in which global systems of manufacturing are coordinated virtually, or implantable mobile phones made of biosynthetic materials. The fourth industrial revolution, says Schwab, is more significant, and its ramifications more profound, than in any prior period of human history. He outlines the key technologies driving this revolution and discusses the major impacts expected on government, business, civil society and individuals. Schwab also offers bold ideas on how to harness these changes and shape a better future—one in which technology empowers people rather than replaces them; progress serves society rather than disrupts it; and in which innovators respect moral and ethical boundaries rather than cross them. We all have the opportunity to contribute to developing new frameworks that advance progress.

Book Synopsis Justice Globalism by : Manfred Steger
Download or read book Justice Globalism written by Manfred Steger and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2012-12-18 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are political activists connected to the global justice movement simplistically opposed to neoliberal globalization? Is their political vision ′incoherent′ and their policy proposals ′naïve′ and ′superficial′ as is often claimed by the mainstream media? Drawing on dozens of interviews and rich textual analyses involving nearly fifty global justice organizations linked to the World Social Forum, the authors of this pioneering study challenge this prevailing view. They present a compelling case that the global justice movement has actually fashioned a new political ideology with global reach: ′justice globalism′. Far from being incoherent, justice globalism possesses a rich and nuanced set of core concepts and powerful ideological claims. The book investigates how justice globalists respond to global financial crises, to escalating climate change, and to the global food crisis. It finds justice globalism generating new political agendas and campaigns to address these pressing problems. Justice globalism, the book concludes, has much to contribute to solving the serious global challenges of the 21st century. Justice Globalism will prove a stimulating read for undergraduate and graduate students in the social sciences and humanities who are taking courses on globalization, global studies and global justice.
