Book Synopsis Studies in Nonlinear Aeroelasticity by : Earl H. Dowell
Download or read book Studies in Nonlinear Aeroelasticity written by Earl H. Dowell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The great bulk of the literature on aeroelasticity is devoted to linear models. The oretical work relies heavily on linear mathematical concepts, and experimental results are commonly interpreted by assuming that the physical model behaves in a linear manner. Nevertheless, significant work has been done in nonlinear aero elasticity, and one may expect this trend to accelerate for several reasons: our ability to compute has increased at an astonishing rate; as linear concepts have been assimilated widely, there is a natural increase in interest in the foundations of nonlinear modeling; and, finally, some phenomena long recognized to be of interest, but beyond the effective range of linear models, are now known to be essentially nonlinear in nature. In this volume, an exhaustive review of the literature is not attempted. Rather the emphasis is on fundamental ideas and a representative selection of problems. Despite obvious successes in research on problems of aeroelasticity and the existence of a broad literature, including a number of excellent monographs, up to now little attention has been devoted to a general nonlinear theory of interac tion. For the most part nonlinearity has been considered either solely in the description of the behavior of a shell or in the description of the motion of a gas.
Book Synopsis Rheology of Drag Reducing Fluids by : Aroon Shenoy
Download or read book Rheology of Drag Reducing Fluids written by Aroon Shenoy and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-25 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains theoretical derivations and presents expressions for fluid and convective turbulent flow of mildly elastic fluids in various internal and external flow situations involving different types of geometries, such as the smooth/rough circular pipes, annular ducts, curved tubes, vertical flat plates, and channels. Understanding the methodology of the analyses facilitates appreciation for the rationale used for deriving expressions of parameters relevant to the turbulent flow of mildly elastic fluids. This knowledge serves as a driving force for developing new ideas, investigating new situations, and extending theoretical analyses to other unexplored areas of the rheology of mildly elastic drag reducing fluids. The book suits a range of functions--it can be used to teach elective upper-level undergraduate or graduate courses for chemical engineers, material scientists, mechanical engineers, and polymer scientists; guide researchers unexposed to this alluring and interesting area of drag reduction; and serve as a reference to all who want to explore and expand the areas dealt with in this book.

This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The IUTAM Symposium on Flow in Collapsible Tubes and Past Other Highly Compliant Boundaries was held on 26-30 March, 2001, at the University of Warwick. As this was the first scientific meeting of its kind we considered it important to mark the occasion by producing a book. Accordingly, at the end of the Symposium the Scientific Committee met to discuss the most appropriate format for the book. We wished to avoid the format of the conventional conference book consisting of a large number of short articles of varying quality. It was agreed that instead we should produce a limited number of rigorously refereed and edited articles by selected participants who would aim to sum up the state of the art in their particular research area. The outcome is the present book. Peter W. Ca rpenter, Warwick Timothy J. Pedley, Cambridge May, 2002. VB SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE Co-Chair: P.W. Carpenter, Engineering, Warwiek, UK Co-Chair: TJ. Book Synopsis Transition and Turbulence Control by : Mohamed Gad-el-Hak
Download or read book Transition and Turbulence Control written by Mohamed Gad-el-Hak and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains articles based on lectures given at the Workshop on Transition and Turbulence Control, hosted by the Institute for Mathematical Sciences, National University of Singapore, 8-10 December 2004. The lecturers included 13 of the world's foremost experts in the control of transitioning and turbulent flows. The chapters cover a wide range of subjects in the broad area of flow control, and will be useful to researchers working in this area in academia, government laboratories and industry. The coverage includes control theory, passive, active and reactive methods for controlling transitional and turbulent wall-bounded flows, noise suppression and mixing enhancement of supersonic turbulent jets, compliant coatings, modern flow diagnostic systems, and swept wing instabilities.

Book Synopsis Heat Transfer to Non-Newtonian Fluids by : Aroon Shenoy
Download or read book Heat Transfer to Non-Newtonian Fluids written by Aroon Shenoy and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written with the idea of providing the fundamentals for those who are interested in the field of heat transfer to non-Newtonian fluids. It is well recognized that non-Newtonian fluids are encountered in a number of transport processes and estimation of the heat transfer characteristics in the presence of these fluids requires analysis of equations that are far more complex than those encountered for Newtonian fluids. A deliberate effort has been made to demonstrate the methods of simplification of the complex equations and to put forth analytical expressions for the various heat transfer situations in as vivid a manner as possible. The book covers a broad range of topics from forced, natural and mixed convection without and with porous media. Laminar as well as turbulent flow heat transfer to non-Newtonian fluids have been treated and the criterion for transition from laminar to turbulent flow for natural convection has been established. The heat transfer characteristics of non-Newtonian fluids from inelastic power-law fluids to viscoelastic second-order fluids and mildly elastic drag reducing fluids are covered. This book can serve the needs of undergraduates, graduates and industry personnel from the fields of chemical engineering, material science and engineering, mechanical engineering and polymer engineering.

Book excerpt: Preface: in the past few years there has been much discussion both In the United States and abroad of the ability of Lighter Than Air vehicles to meet future transportation needs. Many of the proposed uses and missions seem promising. However, Lighter Than Air Is not without Its problems. Although modern technology may be able to overcome these problems, the ultimate Issue could be the economic feasibility of Lighter Than Air.
