Download or read book Calendar written by Laurence Hull Stookey and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2011-12-01 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A probing but clearly written book, Calendar will find an appreciative audience beyond academia and clergy to the laity of the church: choirs and their directors, worship planners, adult study groups, and others who want to understand better the church's times of preparation and celebration. Calendar centers largely on theological meaning and parish practice in relation to liturgical time. Deliberately, almost no attention is given to detailed historical development, much of which is exceedingly complex in its origins and technical in its detail. An appendix entitled "Forgetting What You Were Always Taught (Or, This Book in a Nutshell)" aptly describes the radical reordering that Stookey believes occurs when our understanding of time and the story of Jesus takes its bearings from the Incarnation. So, just as the Christian week begins with Sunday, the day of Resurrection, Stookey follows the Christian year beginning with the season of Easter, and only then Lent; Christmas, then Advent. Illuminating discussions of Ordinary and Extraordinary Time, and the Sanctoral Cycle follow.
Download or read book Numbering My Days written by Chene Heady and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chene Heady was a believing Catholic whose daily concerns were shaped primarily by forces other than his faith--career demands, financial decisions, scheduling conflicts, etc. He worked long hours and had limited regular interaction with his wife, also a busy professional, and his young daughter. He was the typical overextended and anonymous modern Catholic man. Then he tried an experiment that dramatically rearranged his life. After reading about the importance of the Church's liturgical year, Heady took up the challenge to live as though the Church's calendar, not the secular one, stood at the center of his life. Every day for a year, he observed the Church's seasons and feasts, and meditated on the Church's daily readings. As he did so, he found that his life, and his relationships, became more meaningful and fruitful. Numbering My Days tells the story of one man's renewal, and it offers an authentic model of spiritual development for anyone.

Book Synopsis Connecting the Church Calendar by : Carolyn A. Roth
Download or read book Connecting the Church Calendar written by Carolyn A. Roth and published by CR Ministry. This book was released on 2018-02-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the liturgical year, we live life with Jesus day-after-day until finally one day, Jesus' life becomes our own. When we integrate the church calendar into our lives, we become the message of Jesus. Our lives become the seasons of the church year. We are members of the cast in the greatest drama of all time - the life of Christ and his church. Like me, when you learned that there was a church calendar and church seasons, you may have said, "that's nice" followed by, "why should I bother to learn this material? I'm busy with school, job, child rearing." Nonetheless, if you decide to investigate the church calendar, likely your next question was: "Where can I get a book that is a 'quick read?' Some of you may have added, "I need an electronic copy." This book is your answer, and, yes, it does come in electronic format.
Book Synopsis Theo-Drama by : Hans Urs Von Balthasar
Download or read book Theo-Drama written by Hans Urs Von Balthasar and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2013-06-20 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the introduction to the second part of the trilogy which is von Balthasar's major work. The Glory of the Lord approaches revelation from the standpoint of the beautiful. The final part of the trilogy, the Theo-Logic, will treat Christian revelation from the standpoint of the true. In this first volume von Balthasar shows how many of the trends of modern theology (e.g. "event", "history", "orthopraxy", "dialogue", "political theology") point to an understanding of human and cosmic reality as a divine drama. He will then consider objections to such a theological dramatic theory and also the relationship between the Church and the theatre. This volume assembles the materials and the themes that will make it possible in subsequent volumes to develop this theological dramatic theory. "...meeting Balthasar was for me the beginning of a lifelong friendship I can only be thankful for. Never again have I found anyone with such a comprehensive theological and humanistic education as Balthasar and de Lubac, and I cannot even begin to say how much I owe to my encounter with them." - Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI)
