Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improvements in computer networking have heralded great expectations for computer-mediated distributed work. However, experience has revealed that, as information flow improves, a central problem for distributed workers is the administration, management and control of that information. Research into Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) investigates design methods and technologies for the support of collaboration, communication and coordination of distributed group work, both within and among organizations. In tandem with this focus on the support of distributed communication and collaboration, there have been exciting developments in the fields of Intelligent Agents and Distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAI), notably in the concepts, theories and deployment of intelligent agents as a means of distributing computer-based problem solving expertise. The paradigm of multi-agent systems forms a proposed basis for the design of CSCW architectures, the support of CSCW operations and for addressing some of the problems of cooperative working. The application of a multi-agent approach to CSCW makes information exchange among the participants easier by delivering support to the participants, assisting workflows and procedures, and providing convenient user interfaces to CSCW systems. Furthermore, the ideas inherent in such an approach are also applicable to other domains, such as support for interactive learning. Organizations that seek to exploit the advantages offered through CSCW will benefit from the integration of agents in the management and use of their corporate knowledge, especially with the advancement of wired or wireless networking, pervasive computing, and other information technologies. Agent Supported Cooperative Work describes the state of the art in this exciting new area, covering both theoretical foundations and practical applications of ASCW. It is the first book explicitly dedicated to ASCW, bringing together contributions from international experts in the field.
Book Synopsis Engineering Design Optimization by : Joaquim R. R. A. Martins
Download or read book Engineering Design Optimization written by Joaquim R. R. A. Martins and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-11-18 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on course-tested material, this rigorous yet accessible graduate textbook covers both fundamental and advanced optimization theory and algorithms. It covers a wide range of numerical methods and topics, including both gradient-based and gradient-free algorithms, multidisciplinary design optimization, and uncertainty, with instruction on how to determine which algorithm should be used for a given application. It also provides an overview of models and how to prepare them for use with numerical optimization, including derivative computation. Over 400 high-quality visualizations and numerous examples facilitate understanding of the theory, and practical tips address common issues encountered in practical engineering design optimization and how to address them. Numerous end-of-chapter homework problems, progressing in difficulty, help put knowledge into practice. Accompanied online by a solutions manual for instructors and source code for problems, this is ideal for a one- or two-semester graduate course on optimization in aerospace, civil, mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering departments.
Book Synopsis Proceedings of the 6th CIRP-Sponsored International Conference on Digital Enterprise Technology by : George Q. Huang
Download or read book Proceedings of the 6th CIRP-Sponsored International Conference on Digital Enterprise Technology written by George Q. Huang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-12 with total page 1754 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Proceedings volume contains articles presented at the CIRP-Sponsored Inter- tional Conference on Digital Enterprise Technology (DET2009) that takes place December 14–16, 2009 in Hong Kong. This is the 6th DET conference in the series and the first to be held in Asia. Professor Paul Maropoulos initiated, hosted and chaired the 1st International DET Conference held in 2002 at the University of D- ham. Since this inaugural first DET conference, DET conference series has been s- cessfully held in 2004 at Seattle, Washington USA, in 2006 at Setubal Portugal, in 2007 at Bath England, and in 2008 at Nantes France. The DET2009 conference continues to bring together International expertise from the academic and industrial fields, pushing forward the boundaries of research kno- edge and best practice in digital enterprise technology for design and manufacturing, and logistics and supply chain management. Over 120 papers from over 10 countries have been accepted for presentation at DET2009 and inclusion in this Proceedings volume after stringent refereeing process. On behalf of the organizing and program committees, the Editors are grateful to the many people who have made DET2009 possible: to the authors and presenters, es- cially the keynote speakers, to those who have diligently reviewed submissions, to members of International Scientific Committee, Organizing Committee and Advisory Committes, and to colleagues for their hard work in sorting out all the arrangements. We would also like to extend our gratitude to DET2009 sponsors, co-organizers, and supporting organizations.
Book Synopsis Revolutionizing Collaboration through e-Work, e-Business, and e-Service by : Shimon Y. Nof
Download or read book Revolutionizing Collaboration through e-Work, e-Business, and e-Service written by Shimon Y. Nof and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-10 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collaboration in highly distributed organizations of people, robots, and autonomous systems is and must be revolutionized by engineering augmentation. The aim is to augment humans’ abilities at work and, through this augmentation, improve organizations’ abilities to accomplish their missions. This book establishes the theoretical foundations and design principles of collaborative e-Work, e-Business and e-Service, their models and applications, design and implementation techniques. The fundamental premise is that without effective e-Work and e-Services, the potential of emerging activities, such as e-Commerce, virtual manufacturing, tele-robotic medicine, automated construction, smart energy grid, cyber-supported agriculture, and intelligent transportation cannot be fully materialized. Typically, workers and managers of such value networks are frustrated with complex information systems, originally designed and built to simplify and improve performance. Even if the human-computer interface for such systems is well designed, the information and task overloads can be overwhelming. Effective delivery of expected outcomes may not occur. Challenges and emerging solutions in the context of the recently developed CCT, Collaborative Control Theory, are described, with emphasis on issues of computer-supported and communication-enabled integration, coordination and augmented collaboration. Research results and analyses of engineering design methods and complex systems management techniques are explained and illustrated.

Book Synopsis Multi-Agent Programming: by : Rafael H. Bordini
Download or read book Multi-Agent Programming: written by Rafael H. Bordini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-13 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-Agent Systems are a promising technology to develop the next generation open distributed complex software systems. The main focus of the research community has been on the development of concepts (concerning both mental and social attitudes), architectures, techniques, and general approaches to the analysis and specification of multi-agent systems. This contribution has been fragmented, without any clear way of “putting it all together”, rendering it inaccessible to students and young researchers, non-experts, and practitioners. Successful multi-agent systems development is guaranteed only if we can bridge the gap from analysis and design to effective implementation. Multi-Agent Programming: Languages, Tools and Applications presents a number of mature and influential multi-agent programming languages, platforms, development tools and methodologies, and realistic applications, summarizing the state of the art in an accessible manner for professionals and computer science students at all levels.
