Book Synopsis Ground Water Vulnerability Assessment by : National Research Council
Download or read book Ground Water Vulnerability Assessment written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1993-02-01 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the need to protect ground water from pollution was recognized, researchers have made progress in understanding the vulnerability of ground water to contamination. Yet, there are substantial uncertainties in the vulnerability assessment methods now available. With a wealth of detailed information and practical advice, this volume will help decision-makers derive the most benefit from available assessment techniques. It offers: Three laws of ground water vulnerability. Six case studies of vulnerability assessment. Guidance for selecting vulnerability assessments and using the results. Reviews of the strengths and limitations of assessment methods. Information on available data bases, primarily at the federal level. This book will be indispensable to policymakers and resource managers, environmental professionals, researchers, faculty, and students involved in ground water issues, as well as investigators developing new assessment methods.

Book Synopsis Nonpoint Sources of Pollution to the Great Lakes Basin by : Great Lakes Science Advisory Board. Workgroup on Parties Implementation
Download or read book Nonpoint Sources of Pollution to the Great Lakes Basin written by Great Lakes Science Advisory Board. Workgroup on Parties Implementation and published by Windsor, Ont. : International Joint Commission. This book was released on 2000 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year 1998 marked the 20th anniversary of the final reports of the Commission's Pollution From Land Use Activities Reference Group (PLUARG). PLUARG produced a body of work that remains the cornerstone of current thinking about non-point source pollution in the Great Lakes and elsewhere. Twenty years after PLUARG, the Workgroup on Parties Implementation sought to assess the status of non-point source pollution control in the Great Lakes basin, particularly progress by the Parties under Annexes 3 and 13 of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. To that end, the Workgroup sponsored a special session at the Great Lakes soil erosion and sediment control conference, held in Toledo, Ohio, September 16-18, 1998. This report summarizes the findings of that session.
Book Synopsis Karst Aquifers - Characterization and Engineering by : Zoran Stevanović
Download or read book Karst Aquifers - Characterization and Engineering written by Zoran Stevanović and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-25 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical training guidebook makes an important contribution to karst hydrogeology. It presents supporting material for academic courses worldwide that include this and similar topics. It is an excellent sourcebook for students and other attendees of the International Karst School: Characterization and Engineering of Karst Aquifers, which opened in Trebinje, Bosnia & Herzegovina in 2014 and which will be organized every year in early summer. As opposed to more theoretical works, this is a catalog of possible engineering interventions in karst and their implications. Although the majority of readers will be professionals with geology/hydrogeology backgrounds, the language is not purely technical making it accessible to a wider audience. This means that the methodology, case studies and experiences presented will also benefit water managers working in karst environments.
