Specifically the study investigated the preservice teachers’ ICT integration competencies; practices that can be effective in enhancing pre-service science and mathematics teachers’ competency in integrating technology, pedagogy and content; as well as the impact of those practices in the development of preservice teachers’ technological pedagogical content knowledge. An action research approach was employed in the study, employing the pre and post-intervention assessment of preservice teachers’ knowledge on technology, pedagogy and content. Planed interventions were carried out during the study, to enable preservice teachers to identify areas of weaknesses in their technology integration competencies, and propose alternative approaches for addressing the identified weaknesses. Student questionnaire, instructor interview and observation checklist were used to collect date before, during and after intervention. Researcher’s log book, digital camera and audio recorder were used in recording events and activities taking place during the study. Findings revealed that when preservice teachers engage in hands on activities such as microteaching, lesson design and the opportunity to share their ideas with peers, they easily developed their technological pedagogical content knowledge. An analysis of knowledge change after the intervention, showed a significant difference between pre-intervention and post intervention preservice teachers’ knowledge of TPACK. It is therefore concluded that, the adoption of hands on activities that uses technology and involve teachers in planning of what to teach, how to teach and with what technology to teach, and provision of an opportunity to share this plan with colleagues, can make a significant change in the development of TPACK among preservice teachers.

Furthermore, this study explored how the available resources are used, as well as the challenges that teachers experience to implement ICT tools in their lessons. This study determined how teachers perceive the use of ICT in teaching and learning. Also, the researcher addressed the professional development, technical training, as well as support the teachers received at their respective schools. The primary research question for this study is: 0́−How do Grade 5 mathematics teachers from well-resourced schools experience the use of ICT within their classrooms?0́+ The qualitative approach was used, and a descriptive case study research design was selected to answer the research question. The technology acceptance model (TAM) was used as a basis to determine the themes of the study. The data collection strategies were questionnaires and semi-structured interviews to determine teachers0́9 experiences of using ICT in the mathematics classroom. Purposive and convenience sampling were used to select the participants for this study. The participants comprised six mathematics teachers from three well-resourced and independent schools located in Tshwane, South Africa. An overall conclusion is that this study reveals mixed feelings of both optimism and reluctance when using ICT in mathematics. The results prove differences in teachers0́9 perceived experiences of ICT in mathematics teaching and learning. The individual schools as well as the teachers received different levels of training, professional development and support from the institution, and also face external and internal barriers when integrating ICT into the classroom. However, despite these barriers, it is still clear that ICT is the future of learning. It is always important to understand that the responses of the participants represent their own perceptions.

These potentialities of the ICT make its integration in the mathematics classroom a promising practice, but the success of this practice is dependent on various factors, among which are the following: teachers' perceptions of their ability in ICT, teachers' attitudes towards ICT contribution to the mathematics teaching, teachers' attitudes towards ICT contribution to students' mathematics learning, teachers' emotions towards the use of ICT in the mathematics classroom, teachers' feelings of self-esteem and control in the presence of ICT in the mathematics classroom, and teachers' intentions to actually integrate ICT in their teaching. The current research came to verify the readiness of Arab teachers in elementary and middle schools in Israel regarding the integration of ICT in the classroom, and hence its interest in the six above constructs. The research used a questionnaire that included statements related to each one of the above constructs. This questionnaire was administered to 475 Arab teachers in elementary and middle schools in the North, Center and Haifa regions in Israel. The research findings show that more than seventy percent of the participating teachers have positive perceptions of their competence in technology and technology integration in their teaching. Further, they have positive attitudes towards the integration of ICT in teaching and learning and of their self-esteem in the presence of technology, in addition to positive emotions towards this integration. Thus the findings indicate that the teachers are ready for the integration of technology in their teaching, and this readiness is represented not only by the participating teachers' perceptions of and attitudes towards the integration of technology in teaching and learning, but also in their intention to do so.

Also in Pakistan, ICT technologies are now applied in a number of the Private schools and the public sector intends to use it for teaching and learning. The review of research studies suggest that appropriate and effective use of ICTs technology enhances and adds value to students' learning in science education. However, the existing use of ICTs in schools in Pakistan appears not to be up to the level of its capacity, consequently a limited impact on students' learning. Teachers are central to the successful use of ICT resources in science teaching and any use successful integration depends on the teachers comfort level with its use. Therefore, exploring their perceptions and practices of integrating ICTs with teaching of science would help in understanding the existing situation, of ICTs use in schools, so that planning for integration may be made.
