This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this culminating project was to develop a framework through a support group for female and female-identifying victims of sexual assault and violence across university settings using a DMT inspired framework. Four modules to highlight the combination of trauma- informed movement and psychoeducation to further address, acknowledge and offer support for female and female-identifying victims. The themes explore awareness and prevention, trauma and the brain, trauma and the body, and dance/movement therapy frameworks to further investigate how sexual trauma is processed. Although support groups are available for student in most counseling centers within universities, this approach is different, offering a support group that uses movement as the modality for processing and exploring. The literature review includes research addressing somatic based theories and frameworks to sexual trauma, psychological influences, how DMT relates to sexual trauma, preventions and approaches within higher education, and established frameworks for trauma treatment. The trauma-informed movement and psychoeducation modules are intended to bring awareness to the depths sexual trauma can have on victims, and acknowledge the benefit of using movement as a healing tool and approach during the recovery process.

Book Synopsis Social Justice in Dance/Movement Therapy by : Laura Downey
Download or read book Social Justice in Dance/Movement Therapy written by Laura Downey and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-12-18 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates the use of dance/movement therapy to directly counteract social injustices and promote healing in international settings. It also demonstrates the potential for dance/movement therapy in prevention and wellness in clinical and community settings. The use of improvisational and creative dance is presented throughout the book as a tremendously clear, strong and powerful inroad to healing in every setting. The chapters in this book do not directly address social justice in dance/movement therapy, but rather provide provoking social justice related positions. This call for a provoking re-examination of the definition of dance/movement therapy is fitting as we—as a community—challenge our identity as dance/movement therapists, educators, supervisors and as human beings who have internalized oppression in various forms through our many identifiers and the unique intersections of those identifiers. The editors and authors posit that social justice cannot be fully addressed by focusing solely on the social issues. Rather, we must be aware of where and how the social issues come into the individual(s), the setting, and the therapy process itself. Book Synopsis Imagery of Elements by : Erika Pranzo
Download or read book Imagery of Elements written by Erika Pranzo and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this capstone project thesis was to develop a method to stabilize adults in a short-term psychiatric hospital using dance/movement therapy (DMT) within a trauma-informed framework. A vast number of the population has experienced trauma at some point in their life and extensive literature links trauma and long-term mental health concerns. The literature supports the need for clinicians to practice within a trauma-informed framework to prevent further harming or re-traumatizing clients. Dance/ movement therapy literature suggests that DMT is an effective way of treating survivors of trauma by utilizing the somatic responses to trauma which are reflected through movement. With this knowledge, this method was developed as a structured, explorative method to help survivors of various traumas engage in reflection and self-expression to maintain a present-centered focus and reach emotional regulation. The developed method is entitled Elements, and includes a sequence structure of three main components: sensory awareness, rhythmic synchrony and self-generated imagery of elements. Case vignettes are provided to demonstrate the development of this method and how the Elements method solidified within four sessions.

Book excerpt: This qualitative research explores creative movement processes such as dance/movement therapy (DMT), authentic movement (AM), and creative dance (CD) as possible tools for transforming sexual trauma for women. Eleven movement professionals were interviewed in a semi-structured research format. My direct experience and knowledge of sexual abuse, sexual trauma, and creative movement processes are interwoven with the research question: do creative dance/movement therapy processes contribute to the dynamic of healing for women transforming sexual trauma? These findings are inconclusive for the greater population of survivors of sexual abuse and sexual trauma. However, there are indications that DMT, AM, and CD may be potential tools for recovery. This research contributes to a dialogue about sexual abuse and recovery from sexual trauma.

Book Synopsis The Impact of Dance/movement Therapy on Self-esteem in the Sexually Abused Adolescent by :
Download or read book The Impact of Dance/movement Therapy on Self-esteem in the Sexually Abused Adolescent written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many children experience great trauma while growing up. In so doing, the traumatic experience becomes repressed, perhaps in an effort to cover up the pain that is suffered. One of the traumas that unfortunately exist is child sexual abuse. A child is suddenly ripped of his self-esteem and feeling of well-being. During my experience as a dance/movement therapist, it has been revealed through movement, that more than half my clients were victims of child sexual abuse. Since the sexual abuse took place on a bodily level, it was therefore contacted and acknowledged on the same level-through movement, even when the client was unable to verbalize or even recall the experience. The purpose of this study is to discover the impact that movement, more specifically, Dance/Movement Therapy has on the adolescent and how it helps him/her to regain the self-esteem that was lost as a result of being a victim of child sexual abuse.
