This book was released on 1987-01-01 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even as a pup, Davy Crockett "always delighted to be in the very thickest of danger." In his own inimitable style, he describes his earliest days in Tennessee, his two marriages, his career as an Indian fighter, his bear hunts, and his electioneering. His reputation as a b'ar hunter (he killed 105 in one season) sent him to Congress, and he was voted in and out as the price of cotton (and his relations with the Jacksonians) rose and fell. In 1834, when this autobiography appeared, Davy Crockett was already a folk hero with an eye on the White House. But a year later he would lose his seat in Congress and turn toward Texas and, ultimately, the Alamo.

Book Synopsis Crockett of Tennessee by : Cameron Judd
Download or read book Crockett of Tennessee written by Cameron Judd and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2016-02-16 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finalist for the Spur Award: The thrilling adventures of an American icon come alive in this vivid and authentic retelling of his remarkable story From humble beginnings in rural Tennessee to his heroic death defending the Alamo, frontiersman, adventurer, and politician David “Davy” Crockett embodies the spirit and ideals of the national character. Even during his lifetime, tales of the sharpshooting, skilled woodsman were—to his delight—told, retold, and elaborated on. As a US congressman, the former Creek War militiaman steadfastly opposed President Andrew Jackson’s Indian Removal Act. As a soldier, he made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for an independent Texas. Nearly two centuries after his untimely demise, he remains a legendary figure in American lore. In this fictional account of Crockett’s life, author Cameron Judd offers a nuanced portrait of the man behind the myth. He depicts Crockett’s triumphs as a hunter, cattle drover, warrior, and legislator in riveting detail and poignantly illustrates his subject’s hardscrabble youth and complicated relationship with his father. Meticulously researched and rich in vibrant action, Crockett of Tennessee captures the charisma, ambition, and bravery of the man known as the “King of the Wild Frontier.”

Book Synopsis Notable Southern Families by : Zella Armstrong
Download or read book Notable Southern Families written by Zella Armstrong and published by Notable Southern Families. This book was released on 2018-03-24 with total page 684 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, Volume V, is the genealogy of Crockett Family and connecting lines. The Southern States were settled by three great waves of emigration, -Cavalier, Scotch-Irish and Huguenot. - These types retain their characteristics to this day, perhaps, largely, because groups of relatives, friends or neighbors settled in one section and gave a dominant tinge in creed, and church, and custom. The sons and daughters of these families married, and creed and custom grew stronger from year to year. Thus the Scotch-Irish, a people of Scotch origin, though living in Ireland for many years before the American emigration, settled in certain parts of Virginia, North and South Carolina, and, what is now, East Tennessee, in great numbers and impressed their Presbyterian faith upon their posterity. In the chapters of this book examples will be given of each of these groups-Cavalier, Scotch-Irish and Huguenot. The early history of these well-known Southern families is here presented, being published, at least in collected form, for the first time. The compiler takes no credit for authorship, as genealogy is not a science of invention. The facts, however, are clearly stated, and in the case of each family each line may be brought down to the present day from the earliest settler in America. The Colonial, Revolutionary, War of 1812 and War Between the States record of each family is set forth succinctly. No space has been given to tradition, though many traditions in the families mentioned are interesting and doubtless could be followed up and proved. Many histories have been consulted and many family documents studied, only reliable records being used. Though the chief endeavor of these chapters is to show the Colonial or Revolutionary settler and his posterity, a brief line of his progenitors is given in some cases, as the origin of name and family is always interesting. Hundreds of histories, court records and family documents have been examined in the preparation of this volume, and a large group of family members and members of the connecting lines have provided assistance. Some of these individuals includes David Graham, Mrs. Sidney S. Crockett, Mrs. Anna Bell Tuck-Sapp, Mrs. Wirt Johnson Carrington, J. Newton Harman, Miss Kitty Crockett, Mrs. Homer F. Sloan, and many others.
