Book Synopsis A Confusion of Printers by : Pearce J. Carefoote
Download or read book A Confusion of Printers written by Pearce J. Carefoote and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-11-27 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The social history of the Reformation era remains a constant source of fascination for scholars. Of particular focus are the ways in which the movement intersected with print to help give birth to what we call "the modern era." One consistent theme is that while the story of the Reformation cannot be told without reference to print, often the more interesting stories are to be found in the trials and tribulations of the printers themselves. The Reformation of the sixteenth century was, among other things, about courageous printers. Without them, the message of the Reformation would have been limited. But the uncertainties associated with being a printer/publisher in the period between 1517 and 1648 cannot be underestimated. Nowhere was it more uncertain and confusing than in England. As it turned out, however, that turbulence helped set the stage for the achievement of the freedom of the press by the end of the seventeenth century that had been unthinkable when the Tudors occupied the throne.

Book Synopsis Imposition: A Hand Book for Printers (Classic Reprint) by : F. J. Trezise
Download or read book Imposition: A Hand Book for Printers (Classic Reprint) written by F. J. Trezise and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-22 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Imposition: A Hand Book for Printers Experience in The Inland Printer Technical School has shown the necessity for a clearer and more simple presenta' tion of the fundamental principles underlying the subject of imposition than has heretofore been available. What is needed by the great majority of printers is not a system of numerous diagrams for eighteen, twenty, thirty-six and forty-page forms and others of this kind that are but rarely used, but a thorough explanation of the forms that may be termed as regular, both for hand and machine folding. In this work the chief aim has been to bring the subject down to the basis of the beginner. To this end, more atten tion has been given to the smaller forms than is usually the case, and numerous diagrams are presented in-the hope that they may materially aid in making the text more clear. The forms for folding machines are gathered together in one department, separate from the forms for hand folding. This is done in order to avoid confusion. No attempt has been made to revolutionize present methods of imposition or present ideas hitherto unknown. Other treatises on the subject have covered the ground thoroughly, but often in a manner confusing to the beginner. It' is to present the fundamental principles of this subject in a clear and perhaps new manner that this work is undertaken.
