Book Synopsis Experimental Investigation of Vortex-Tail Interaction on a 76/40 Degree Double-Delta Wing by :
Download or read book Experimental Investigation of Vortex-Tail Interaction on a 76/40 Degree Double-Delta Wing written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation was conducted to quantify the vortex-tail interaction on a 76/40 degree double delta wing model. The effects of different fillets at the wing/strake juncture, tail span wise positions, and angles of attack were evaluated. The vertical tails were instrumented with 28 fast response pressure transducers. Pressure time histories and frequency power spectral densities were analyzed for 35 configurations. Angle of attack was varied from -2 to 40 degrees, tunnel dynamic pressure was 26.74 psf and Reynolds number was 1.3 million. The results show a strong dependence on fillet geometry, tail position, transducer measurement location, and angle of attack on the magnitude and frequency of the tail response to the vortex forcing. In addition, a low frequency pulse was found that contained tremendous energy.

Lovell and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been conducted to determine the effects of wing position and vertical tail configuration on the stability and control characteristics of a jet-powered delta-wing vertically rising airplane model. A ducted-fan powerplant was used because there was no hot-jet powerplant of sufficiently small size and adequate reliability available. In addition to conventional flap-type control surfaces on the wings and vertical tails, the model had jet-reaction controls provided by movable eyelids at the rear of the tail pipe and by air bled from the main duct and exhausted through movable nozzles near the wing tips. The investigation consisted of flight and force tests of three model configurations: a high wing with a top-mounted vertical tail, a high wing with top- and bottom-mounted vertical tails, and a low wing with the top-mounted vertical tail. The flight tests, which were made in the Langley full-scale tunnel, represented slow constant-altitude transitions from hovering to normal unstalled forward flight.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The decision of the General Assembly of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics to organize a Symposium on Dynamics of Slender Vortices was greeted with great enthusiasm. The acceptance of the proposal, forwarded by the Deutsches Komitee fiir Mechanik (DEKOMECH) signalized, that there was a need for discussing the topic chosen in the frame the IUTAM Symposia offer. Also the location of the symposium was suitably chosen: It was decided to hold the symposium at the RWTH Aachen, where, years ago, Theodore von Karman had worked on problems related to those to be discussed now anew. It was clear from the beginning of the planning, that the symposium could only be held in the von Karman-Auditorium ofthe Rheinisch-Westfalische Technische Hochschule Aachen, a building named after him. The symposium was jointly organized by the editors of this volume, strongly supported by the local organizing committee. The invitations of the scientific committee brought together scientists actively engaged in research on the dynamics of slender vortices. It was the aim of the committee to have the state of the art summarized and also to have the latest results of specific problems investigated communicated to the participants of the symposium. The topics chosen were asymptotic theories, numerical methods, vor tices in shear layers, interaction of vortices, vortex breakdown, vortex sound, and aircraft and helicopter vortices.
