Book excerpt: Forget “losing weight”—you want to lose fat…and if you want to know how to do it as quickly as possible without losing muscle…and without doing hours and hours of grueling cardio every week…then you want to read this book. Here's the deal: If your goal is to get or stay lean and maintain your cardiovascular health, you don’t have to “pound the pavement” or grind out long, boring cardio sessions. Ever. That’s right… · No tedious jogging… · No droning away on one of the hamster wheels in the gym… · And no sacrificing hours and hours every week just to get a “six pack.” You also don’t have to subject yourself to restrictive “diets” that feel more like punishment than self-improvement. What if I told you that you could dramatically transform your body eating foods you actually like…every day…7 days per week? What if all you had to do to lose fat and not muscle was follow a handful of flexible dietary guidelines…not starve and deprive yourself? And what if I promised you could forever break free of the anxieties most people associate with “dieting” and make it something you can enjoy as a lifestyle instead? Well, by the end of this book, you’ll know exactly what you need to do to get a lot more out of a lot less exercise…and a lot more delicious food…than you ever thought possible. Here’s a “sneak peek” of some of the things this book will teach you… · The biggest diet lie you’ve been told (and probably believe) that makes losing fat way harder than it has to be. · How the four “tiers” of dieting ultimately determine your results: energy balance, macronutrient balance, food choices, and nutrient timing. · Why “clean eating” is overrated and guarantees nothing in the way of losing fat and building muscle…and what you should do instead. · How to create flexible dieting plans that allow you to get the body you want eating the foods you love. · How much cardio you should do to lose weight and how much is too much and why. · 5 simple eating eating habits that keep you lean, healthy, and happy…without having to obsess over every calorie you eat. · The ultimate guide to high-intensity interval cardio—the absolute best type of cardio for burning fat as quickly as possible. · How to use “fasted cardio” to lose fat…and stubborn fat in particular…even faster. · 7 powerful cardio workouts that will help you burn fat and not muscle in less than 30 minutes per day (and you don’t even have to do them every day!). · And a whole lot more! Imagine...just 12 weeks from now...being constantly complimented on how you look and asked what the heck you're doing to make such startling progress... Imagine enjoying the added benefits of high energy levels, no aches and pains, better spirits, and knowing that you're getting healthier every day... The bottom line is you CAN achieve that "Hollywood body” without having your life revolve around it. SPECIAL BONUSES FOR READERS! With this book you'll also get two free eBooks (one for men and one for women) that teach you the fundamentals of strength training and muscle building as well as give you tried-and-true weightlifting programs that will change your body in the first 8 weeks. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well-established, through extensive peer-reviewed published research, that physical activity and exercise training can impact the reproductive endocrine system of women. This ground-breaking, comprehensive title presents a range of unique insights into the opposite question: how the reproductive endocrine system of women affects their exercise ability. More precisely, the thematic question explored in this work is: if exercise affects reproductive hormones, conversely then could the reproductive hormones have physiological effects unrelated to reproduction that influence the capacity of women to exercise? In exploring this question, the goal is to better understand the unique physiology of women and whether female sex hormones might account for some of the variance in physiological performance between amenorrheic and eumenorrheic women, and within women across the age span as they experience menarche to menopause. Sex Hormones, Exercise and Women: Scientific and Clinical Aspects synthesizes the research by exploring the physiology and psychology behind these occurrences. This novel title will not only be of interest to researchers, exercise scientists, graduate students, and clinicians; it will also serve as a source of valuable information for female athletes and their trainers in the context of preparing for competitions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical movement has a positive effect on physical fitness, morbidity, and mortality in individuals with diabetes. Although exercise has long been considered a cornerstone of diabetes management, many health care providers fail to prescribe it. In addition, many fitness professionals may be unaware of the complexities of including physical activity in the management of diabetes. Giving patients or clients a full exercise prescription that take other chronic conditions commonly accompanying diabetes into account may be too time-consuming for or beyond the expertise of many health care and fitness professionals. The purpose of this book is to cover the recommended types and quantities of physical activities that can and should be undertaken by all individuals with any type of diabetes, along with precautions related to medication use and diabetes-related health complications. Medications used to control diabetes should augment lifestyle improvements like increased daily physical activity rather than replace them. Up until now, professional books with exercise information and prescriptions were not timely or interactive enough to easily provide busy professionals with access to the latest recommendations for each unique patient. However, simply instructing patients to “exercise more” is frequently not motivating or informative enough to get them regularly or safely active. This book is changing all that with its up-to-date and easy-to-prescribe exercise and physical activity recommendations and relevant case studies. Read and learn to quickly prescribe effective and appropriate exercise to everyone.

This book was released on 2002-07-19 with total page 804 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the newest release in the authoritative series issued by the National Academy of Sciences on dietary reference intakes (DRIs). This series provides recommended intakes, such as Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs), for use in planning nutritionally adequate diets for individuals based on age and gender. In addition, a new reference intake, the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL), has also been established to assist an individual in knowing how much is "too much" of a nutrient. Based on the Institute of Medicine's review of the scientific literature regarding dietary micronutrients, recommendations have been formulated regarding vitamins A and K, iron, iodine, chromium, copper, manganese, molybdenum, zinc, and other potentially beneficial trace elements such as boron to determine the roles, if any, they play in health. The book also: Reviews selected components of food that may influence the bioavailability of these compounds. Develops estimates of dietary intake of these compounds that are compatible with good nutrition throughout the life span and that may decrease risk of chronic disease where data indicate they play a role. Determines Tolerable Upper Intake levels for each nutrient reviewed where adequate scientific data are available in specific population subgroups. Identifies research needed to improve knowledge of the role of these micronutrients in human health. This book will be important to professionals in nutrition research and education.

This book was released on 2012-05-02 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dietary reference values (DRVs) for energy are based on estimating the total energy expenditure (TEE) for groups of people. TEE provides a measure of the energy requirement at energy balance i.e. when energy intake matches energy expenditure. The methodology to measure TEE - the doubly labelled water (DLW) method - has advanced and as a result, the evidence base on TEE in a wide variety of population groups has expanded considerably. With the high levels of overweight and obesity currently seen in the UK and the wealth of new data now available, it was considered timely for the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) to review recommendations for the UK population. This report details the evidence and approaches SACN have considered in order to update the DRVs for energy. SACN chose a prescriptive approach to estimating energy reference values; suitable reference body weight ranges consistent with long-term good health were used to calculate energy reference values. Thus, basal metabolic rate (BMR) values were predicted using healthy reference body weights. Using this approach, if overweight groups consume the amount of energy recommended for healthy weight groups, they are likely to lose weight, whereas underweight sections of the population should gain weight towards the healthy body weight range. SACN has derived new energy reference values. For most population groups, except for infants and young children, the values have increased. DRVs should be used to assess the energy requirements for large groups of people and populations, but should not be applied to individuals due to the large variation in physical activity and energy expenditure observed between people.
