Download or read book Inhibition of Chain Reactions written by V V Azatyan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-07-06 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text explores nonbranching reactions, including in-depth information on the inhibitors of free radical polymerisation and the mechanisms of antioxidants on oxidationprocesses. Auto-initiated chain reactions are also explored, with detailed descriptions on the kinetics, mechanisms, and inhibition of the autoxidation of organic compounds, A special chapter deals with the synergism of antioxidant actions. The theory of chain-branching reactions is investigated, and a large amount of new experimental data concerning the use of chemical additives to regulate combustion processes is also presented, including the mode of chain thermal explosion.
Book Synopsis Green Corrosion Inhibitors by : V. S. Sastri
Download or read book Green Corrosion Inhibitors written by V. S. Sastri and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-02-14 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book to cover developments in corrosion inhibitors is long overdue. This has been addressed by Dr Sastri in a book which presents fundamental aspects of corrosion inhibition, historical developments and the industrial applications of inhibitors. The book deals with the electrochemical principles and chemical aspects of corrosion inhibition, such as stability of metal complexes, the Hammett equation, hard and soft acid and base principle, quantum chemical aspects and Hansch' s model and also with the various surface analysis techniques, e.g. XPS, Auger, SIMS and Raman spectroscopy, that are used in industry for corrosion inhibition. The applications of corrosion inhibition are wide ranging. Examples given in this book include: oil and gas wells, petrochemical plants, steel reinforced cement, water cooling systems, and many more. The final chapters discuss economic and environmental considerations which are now of prime importance. The book is written for researchers in academia and industry, practicing corrosion engineers and students of materials science, engineering and applied chemistry.

Book Synopsis Homolytic Aromatic Substitution by : G. H. Williams
Download or read book Homolytic Aromatic Substitution written by G. H. Williams and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homolytic Aromatic Substitution deals with the theoretical aspects of homolytic aromatic substitution reactions. The effect of various kinds of free radicals on the substitution of atoms or groups (usually hydrogen) attached to aromatic nuclei is examined, and the preparative use of homolytic substitution reactions is also considered. This book is comprised of seven chapters and begins with an introduction to the general characteristics of homolysis, along with homolytic and heterolytic aromatic substitution. The discussion then turns to the various theoretical approaches used to rationalize aromatic substitution, particularly those that are germane to a consideration of the problems of orientation and reactivity in homolytic substitution. The following chapters explore homolytic arylation reactions, including those between aryl radicals and aromatic substrates; relative rates of arylation and partial rate factors for phenylation; the reaction mechanism underlying intramolecular arylation; and homolytic alkylation reactions. The final chapter deals with hydroxylation and some other substitution reactions such as benzoyloxylation, acetyloxylation, halogenation, amination and amidation, and mercuration. This monograph will be of interest to organic chemists.

Download or read book Synthetic Organic Sonochemistry written by Jean-Louis Luche and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TEAN-LOUIS LUCHE A French poet of this eentury, Pierre Mae Orlan, wrote "Adventure does not exist, it is only in the mind of he who is pursuing it, and, as soon as it is at one's finger tips, it vanishes to come back to life, far away, in a different shape, at the frontiers of imagination". This sentence could be used to define the adventure that many sonochemists experienced. Most of them did not even suspect that the "laboratory trick" they were using was the first contact with a considerable amount of science. If a personal note is allowed here, it ean be interesting to mention the part played by chance in my involvement in sonochemistry. Almost 20 years ago, we had to perform an apparently simple Grignard reaetion with n-butylmagnesium bromide and geranial, but the results were repeatedly unsatisfactory. The one-pot Barbier technique was attempted, also without success. From my studies at the University, I imagined that the failure of the latter reaction could be caused by a common phenomenon known by solid state chemists as passivation, which in some cases can be overcome by ultrasonication. By chance, an ultrasonie bath was sitting on the next beneh, borrowed to clean some equipment. We clamped our reluctant reaction mixture into the bath, the reaction proceeded vigorously, and ... the adventure started. Without knowing anything about cavitation, high energies, ete., we had an illustration of Goethe's word "Am Anfang war die Tat" (at the Beginning was the Act).

Book Synopsis From Additive Manufacturing to 3D/4D Printing 1 by : Jean-Claude André
Download or read book From Additive Manufacturing to 3D/4D Printing 1 written by Jean-Claude André and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1984, additive manufacturing represented a new methodology for manipulating matter, consisting of harnessing materials and/or energy to create three-dimensional physical objects. Today, additive manufacturing technologies represent a market of around 5 billion euros per year, with an annual growth between 20 and 30%. Different processes, materials and dimensions (from nanometer to decameter) within additive manufacturing techniques have led to 70,000 publications on this topic and to several thousand patents with applications as wide-ranging as domestic uses. Volume 1 of this series of books presents these different technologies with illustrative industrial examples. In addition to the strengths of 3D methods, this book also covers their weaknesses and the developments envisaged in terms of incremental innovations to overcome them.
