Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While "e-learning" has proliferated in our society, the problem exists that many corporations are delving into e-learning without fully understanding end users' self-reported computer competence or attitudes toward e-learning or computers in general, which could ultimately impact the success of e-learning at an organization. Studies have been done to examine these phenomena, but the vast majority center around the academic environment, and many are deemed archaic due to advances in technology. To examine this problem, this research study's goal was to develop a valid and reliable instrument that measures self-reported computer competence, overall attitudes toward computers, and attitudes toward e-learning appropriate for the corporate, adult learner. The author reviewed various investigations that examined the definition of attitudes toward computers and the phenomenon of computer literacy. Little research exists that examines attitudes toward e-learning, and there is a lack of research for exploring all three phenomena on a nonacademic population. The result of the study yielded the Regan Computer Competence, Attitude, and Behavior Survey. This instrument consists of five sections, totaling 130 items. Each section was comprised of entirely new questions or a combination of existing instruments whose validity and reliability have been explored in previous studies. The author employed a sample of 144 American adults working in a corporate or government organization. The author's analysis revealed that the Regan Computer Competence, Attitude, and Behavior Survey was a valid and reliable instrument. In addition, hypotheses were examined in this research study that looked at the correlation between certain variables and the three phenomena in question.
Book Synopsis Gender and Thought: Psychological Perspectives by : Mary Crawford
Download or read book Gender and Thought: Psychological Perspectives written by Mary Crawford and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, gender serves as a general framework for analyzing the ways people think about mathematical performance, language, self-concept, social categories, and methods and ways of knowing and creating knowledge. A distinguished group of authors shows how various forces in language, family practices, and education reinforce differentiation among the sex roles. This volume attempts to bridge this gap between difference and equality by revitalizing and reinterpreting the concept of gender differences. Gender and Thought places research on women and gender at the heart of many important areas of scholarly inquiry.

Book Synopsis Gender in Transnational Knowledge Work by : Helen Peterson
Download or read book Gender in Transnational Knowledge Work written by Helen Peterson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-23 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is he first edited book on gender issues in transnational business cooperation concerning knowledge work. This area has so far been researched mainly by organizational theorists, with their background in business studies, finance, communication or sociology, and gender has seldom been taken into account in these studies. This book shows how fruitful a gendered take on issues within this area is, both for a deepened understanding of these organizational issues and for a widened understanding of gender issues. The chapters in the book cover a range of themes from a gender perspective; culture, communication, identity work, structures, organizational change, globalization, mobility, resistance, leadership and management, international business, work life balance, education and labour market, policies and value systems. The chapters also demonstrate the multidisciplinarity within gender research itself and how different perspectives on gender can be combined and developed. They on the social constructionist approach of “doing gender”, feminist organization theory, gendered discourse analysis, techno-feminism, and critical studies on men and masculinities. The book provides insights relevant for some of the relevant debates in business, economics, geography, sociology, and gender and women’s studies. While primarily a research volume, the book is also useful for people who develop and manage transnational business relations.
