Festus Morgan Collection of United States Cents: Unrestricted Public Sale, Thursday, June 16th, 1932 In describing the coins, we have been ultra-conservative, as we always intend to be. We have reduced to the minimum the superlatives of description which the coins richly merited, and have been equally sparing in our attribution of Rarity. The space of an auction catalog, and the time at our disposal in get ting it out, did not permit of as much detailed description of die-cracks, die-sinking, etc. As we would have liked to give, but we have carefully stated the condition of the coins and endeavored to give an accurate idea of the color of the coins, and in every instance where we have used the words Red, Reddish, Gold or Golden, it may be relied on that the color described is the original mint color of the coin. We have called attention to defects where they existed, but this was rarely necessary, as the Collee tion is uniformly high-grade. We have carefully checked and re-checked the attributions of variety of all the years from 1793 to 1849 inclusive, and believe they will all be found correct as cataloged. In the years 1850 to 1857 inclusive, we have accepted Mr. Morgan's attributions, believing that one man's guess is as good as another's in these years.
