This book was released on 2015 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the maxillary central incisor position changes after orthodontic treatment in Class I, II and III malocclusions. Material and Methods: This retrospective cohort study evaluated nighty non extraction orthodontic Class I, II and III cases which were collected randomly from the Orthodontic clinic at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Institutional Review Board of the University of Alabama at Birmingham approved the study. All the chosen cases were treated with fixed appliances and according to the standards of American Board of Orthodontics. All the lateral cephalo-metric radiographs were taken using the Orthopantomograph OP100, Instrumentarium Corp.Imaging Division machine(Finland) and traced digitally using the Dolphin Management and Imaging Software, Version05.05.5070.221436(US &Canada). In order to evaluate the maxillary incisor position changes ,the U1-PP(°), U1-SNo, U1-NAo, U1-NA(mm), U1 perpendicular to FH mm(U1-FH) and U1-Oc° cephalometric measurements were carried out based on the post-treatment lateral cephalometric measurements. In order to determine if there is a statistically significant difference in Maxillary central incisor positions among class I, II and III malocclusions , equivalence tests for post-treatment cephalometric measurements were performed using a range of ± 2 either degrees or millimeters Results: The maxillary incisors position does show a significant difference from the normal value among the Class I, II and III. Class III malocclusion presented a greater proclination of maxillary incisor teeth compared to Class I and Class II malocclusions. Class I has a tendency to be more positive of the normal and Class II to be more negative than the normal. The maxillary incisors changes, seem to not fall within the range of ±2 mm according with the equivalent tests for post-treatment cephalometric measurements compared to the respective normal value. The final position of the maxillary incisors after orthodontic treatment depends mainly on the initial position of these teeth and the discrepancy of jaws. Conclusion: There is a significant difference in the positioning of the maxillary incisors among the class I, II and III malocclusions. The post-treatment measurements such as U1-FHmm, U1-NA mm and U1-SN° and U1-NA° present a significance difference among Class I, II and III malocclusions. In In the class II, the maxillary teeth showed to be more upright than Class I and III malocclusions after orthodontic treatment. The U1-PP° showed no significant difference among the malocclusions. In this study, the U1-PP° was the same for r the Class I and III.

Book excerpt: Recognizing and Correcting Developing Malocclusions: A Problem-Oriented Approach to Orthodontics provides an evidence-based approach to early treatment, an often-controversial topic. Based on decades of experience in clinical practice and education, Drs. Araújo and Buschang clearly present treatment protocols for mixed-dentition patients with various malocclusions and other orthodontic problems. Class I, Class II, and Class III malocclusions are covered extensively, along with eruptive deviations and open-bite malocclusions. The literature is comprehensively reviewed to ensure that the reader thoroughly understands the development, phenotypic characteristics and etiology of each type of malocclusion. Taking a problem-oriented approach, the authors provide detailed information for each case, develop comprehensive problem lists, and then provide evidence-based treatment solutions. The clinical focus of the text is ideal suited for private-practice clinician, with numerous references and academic underpinnings to ensure its suitability for orthodontic and pediatric dentistry residents. Focuses solely on mixed dentition orthodontic treatments Great variety of case studies—5 to 10 cases per chapter Each case is presented in the format of a problem list and evidence-based solutions More than 300 clinical photographs and radiographs

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the short-term skeletal and dental effects that occur as a result of Class II malocclusion correction utilizing the Carrière! Distalizer as compared to best-matched controls. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort cephalometric study using lateral cephalometric films of 25 (14 male, 11 female, average age 13y 6m) class II patients consecutively treated with the Carrière Distalizer compared with 36 (19 male, 17 female, 13y 2m) untreated class II control subjects from a historical database best-matched based upon age, sex and skeletal classifications. Pretreatment and posttreatment lateral head films were analyzed with conventional cephalometric analysis to evaluate treatment effects. Results: Class II correction was accomplished by 2.46 apical base change, 1.24 mm distal movement of the maxillary movement, 4.8° distal tip and 2.64 mm mesial movement of the mandibular molars. Other profound treatment changes occurred include significant increased lower incisor proclination, 4.83° and a steepened functional occlusal plane, 1.3°. Conclusion: The Carrière Distalizer is an effective means to establish a class I occlusal platform in approximately 4 months during the initial phase of comprehensive orthodontic treatment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In spite of improvements in oral health, there will always be a significant number of people who lose all their teeth. Furthermore, as people are living longer, complete denture work has become more challenging and managing the transition from a pre-edentulous to an edentulous condition has become more critical. The fourth edition of this established textbook for dental undergraduates and postgraduates has been completely updated to reflect these changes. More emphasis has been placed on care of the elderly and how to achieve better communication between clinicians and dental technicians. More details of clinical techniques have been included, with a new section on the self assessment of clinical work. The text has been completely revised to take into account the results of research over the last ten years.
