Download or read book Celebrations written by Maya Angelou and published by Random House. This book was released on 2011-09-07 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grace, dignity, and eloquence have long been hallmarks of Maya Angelou’s poetry. Her measured verses have stirred our souls, energized our minds, and healed our hearts. Whether offering hope in the darkest of nights or expressing sincere joy at the extraordinariness of the everyday, Maya Angelou has served as our common voice. Celebrations is a collection of timely and timeless poems that are an integral part of the global fabric. Several works have become nearly as iconic as Angelou herself: the inspiring “On the Pulse of Morning,” read at President William Jefferson Clinton’s 1993 inauguration; the heartening “Amazing Peace,” presented at the 2005 lighting of the National Christmas Tree at the White House; “A Brave and Startling Truth,” which marked the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations; and “Mother,” which beautifully honors the first woman in our lives. Angelou writes of celebrations public and private, a bar mitzvah wish to her nephew, a birthday greeting to Oprah Winfrey, and a memorial tribute to the late Luther Vandross and Barry White. More than a writer, Angelou is a chronicler of history, an advocate for peace, and a champion for the planet, as well as a patriot, a mentor, and a friend. To be shared and cherished, the wisdom and poetry of Maya Angelou proves there is always cause for celebration.

The very fact that you are alive, the wondrous world around you, and the special people in your life are all reasons to rejoice. That's what this book is all about. Over 500 suggestions for living life to the fullest. The book is divided into topical chapters, including: Getting the support of the pastor and the congregation Statements of purpose Budgets and fundraising Recruiting and keeping volunteers Safety and security Discipline and appropriate policies Choosing and evaluating curriculum Publicity Building Children's Ministry is a practical guide through the challenging (but exciting) steps between recognizing the need for children's ministry and creating a program that ministers to children and their families.
Book Synopsis Jude on the Attack by : Alexandra Robinson
Download or read book Jude on the Attack written by Alexandra Robinson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alexandra Robinson examines the letter of Jude in the light of repeated scholarly references to this source as an invective, a polemic, and an attack speech, with a dependence on both Jewish and Greco-Roman sources. Moving beyond the 'Hellenism/Judaism divide', Robinson specifies what these elements are, and how they relate to the harsh nature of the discourse. This study shows how, where, and why Jude borrows from these contemporary genres, with a detailed survey of Greco-Roman invectives and Jewish judgement oracles; comparing and contrasting them to the epistle of Jude with consideration of structure, aims, themes, and style. Robinson argues that Jude has constructed a 'Jewish invective,' and that his epistle is a polemical text which takes the form (structure, aims, and style) of a typical Greco-Roman invective but is filled with Jewish content (themes and allusions), drawing on Israel's heritage for the benefit of his primarily Jewish– Christian audience.

Book Synopsis Black Hospitality by : Mukasa Mubirumusoke
Download or read book Black Hospitality written by Mukasa Mubirumusoke and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-21 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the paucity of robust reflections on ethics as a distinct field of experience in recent Black Studies scholarship. Following the intervention of the Afro-Pessimist school of thought—spearheaded by the likes of Frank Wilderson III and Jared Sexton—there has been much needed attention brought to the totalizing nature of Black political degradation and vulnerability in America. However, an in depth reflection on the ethical implications of this political positionality is lacking and in places even implied to not be possible. Black Hospitality conceptualizes what the author argues is the aporetic experience of Black ethical life as both excessively vulnerable within and yet also ultimately hostile to an anti-black political ontology. Engaging the work of scholars such as Fred Moten, Saidiya Hartman, Nahum Chandler, Jacques Derrida, Theodor Adorno, and Toni Morrison, along with the concepts of fugitivity, Black sociality, im-possibility, and paraontology, Black Hospitality insists that Black ethical life provides a necessary broadening of the contours of Black experience.
