Book Synopsis Gas Turbine Blade Cooling by : Chaitanya D Ghodke
Download or read book Gas Turbine Blade Cooling written by Chaitanya D Ghodke and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2018-12-10 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas turbines play an extremely important role in fulfilling a variety of power needs and are mainly used for power generation and propulsion applications. The performance and efficiency of gas turbine engines are to a large extent dependent on turbine rotor inlet temperatures: typically, the hotter the better. In gas turbines, the combustion temperature and the fuel efficiency are limited by the heat transfer properties of the turbine blades. However, in pushing the limits of hot gas temperatures while preventing the melting of blade components in high-pressure turbines, the use of effective cooling technologies is critical. Increasing the turbine inlet temperature also increases heat transferred to the turbine blade, and it is possible that the operating temperature could reach far above permissible metal temperature. In such cases, insufficient cooling of turbine blades results in excessive thermal stress on the blades causing premature blade failure. This may bring hazards to the engine's safe operation. Gas Turbine Blade Cooling, edited by Dr. Chaitanya D. Ghodke, offers 10 handpicked SAE International's technical papers, which identify key aspects of turbine blade cooling and help readers understand how this process can improve the performance of turbine hardware.

Book Synopsis The Design of High-Efficiency Turbomachinery and Gas Turbines, second edition, with a new preface by : David Gordon Wilson
Download or read book The Design of High-Efficiency Turbomachinery and Gas Turbines, second edition, with a new preface written by David Gordon Wilson and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2014-09-05 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of a comprehensive textbook that introduces turbomachinery and gas turbines through design methods and examples. This comprehensive textbook is unique in its design-focused approach to turbomachinery and gas turbines. It offers students and practicing engineers methods for configuring these machines to perform with the highest possible efficiency. Examples and problems are based on the actual design of turbomachinery and turbines. After an introductory chapter that outlines the goals of the book and provides definitions of terms and parts, the book offers a brief review of the basic principles of thermodynamics and efficiency definitions. The rest of the book is devoted to the analysis and design of real turbomachinery configurations and gas turbines, based on a consistent application of thermodynamic theory and a more empirical treatment of fluid dynamics that relies on the extensive use of design charts. Topics include turbine power cycles, diffusion and diffusers, the analysis and design of three-dimensional free-stream flow, and combustion systems and combustion calculations. The second edition updates every chapter, adding material on subjects that include flow correlations, energy transfer in turbomachines, and three-dimensional design. A solutions manual is available for instructors. This new MIT Press edition makes a popular text available again, with corrections and some updates, to a wide audience of students, professors, and professionals.

Download or read book The Design of High-efficiency Turbomachinery and Gas Turbines written by David Gordon Wilson and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the only texts to focus on turbomachinery and gas turbines from the 'design' point of view, this volume reviews the necessary thermodynamics, gives extensive design data, provides engine and component illustrations (with comments on good and less-than-good design features), and contains many worked examples - allowing students to produce preliminary designs that can be made and run quickly - as early as Ch. 5. More comprehensive than similar texts, it features a simplified - and more accurate thermodynamic treatment that eliminates the confusing use of 'gamma' and specific heat together, and provides individual full-chapter coverage of axial-flow turbines and compressors and radial-flow versions of the same. *Contains a Brief History of Turbomachinery. *Features a design perspective throughout - and enables students to develop a preliminary design after Ch. 5. *Offers a unified treatment of energy transfer and vector diagrams - focusing on principles that can be applied easily to compressors, pumps, turbines - radial and axial. *Includes specialized chapters that give far more design data than other similar texts - allowing students to produce a design that can be made and r
