Book Synopsis The role of cross-listings in establishing a Southern African Development Community regional stock exchange by : Moses Wisdom Chisadza

This book was released on 2014-01-17 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, , course: LLM in International Trade, Investment and Business Law in Africa, language: English, abstract: It has been established that African stock markets are confronted with a multitude of problems which include, inadequate liquidity, low capitalisation, few market participants, a small number of listed companies and low trading volumes. As a result, their broader economic impact has so far been limited. The Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) stock markets with the exception of South Africa are small, both in terms of the number of listed companies and market capitalisation, and they display considerable illiquidity. In general, the SADC region has shallow and underdeveloped financial markets. Their development has been hampered by a number of factors which include; political and economic uncertainty, fiscal dominance, weak judicial institutions, limited investment opportunities in the private sector, technological constraints, and the shortage of skilled personnel with expertise in banking and finance. It is contended that all these problems could be eased through regional financial integration. The integration of African stock markets and the introduction of regional stock exchanges will promote cross-border listings and thus stimulate increased liquidity across markets. Thus, it is suggested that the integration of SADC’s stock markets and the creation of a regional stock exchange is one of the panaceas to overcome Africa’s stock market problems. A regional stock exchange has the potential for tremendous benefits for both local and foreign investors, as well as for business enterprises in the region
Book Synopsis International Finance by : H. Kent Baker
Download or read book International Finance written by H. Kent Baker and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2013-01-17 with total page 701 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the current state of affairs and tools available in the study of international finance is increasingly important as few areas in finance can be divorced completely from international issues. International Finance reflects the new diversity of interest in international finance by bringing together a set of chapters that summarizes and synthesizes developments to date in the many and varied areas that are now viewed as having international content. The book attempts to differentiate between what is known, what is believed, and what is still being debated about international finance. The survey nature of this book involves tradeoffs that inevitably had to be made in the process given the vast footprint that constitutes international finance. No single book can cover everything. This book, however, tries to maintain a balance between the micro and macro aspects of international finance. Although each chapter is self-contained, the chapters form a logical whole that follows a logical sequence. The book is organized into five broad categories of interest: (1) exchange rates and risk management, (2) international financial markets and institutions, (3) international investing, (4) international financial management, and (5) special topics. The chapters cover market integration, financial crisis, and the links between financial markets and development in some detail as they relate to these areas. In each instance, the contributors to this book discuss developments in the field to date and explain the importance of each area to finance as a field of study. Consequently, the strategic focus of the book is both broad and narrow, depending on the reader's needs. The entire book provides a broad picture of the current state of international finance, but a reader with more focused interests will find individual chapters illuminating on specific topics.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Research on Stock Market Globalization by : Geoffrey Poitras
Download or read book Handbook of Research on Stock Market Globalization written by Geoffrey Poitras and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stock market globalization process has produced historic changes in the structure of stock markets, the effects of which are evident throughout the world. Despite these transformations, there are relatively few sources examining the connections between the globalization process currently underway and previous periods of stock market globalization. This seminal volume fills that gap. The chapters in the first section look to previous globalization periods through the lens of the corporate economy, valuing equities and managed funds. Further chapters address current issues such as the social closure of the exchange, demutualization and mergers and acquisitions as well as cross-listing and liquidity. The final chapters consider the regulatory challenges posed by stock market globalization. These include the pressures on regulators from rent-seeking stock market participants, the demise of exchange trading floors and Latin America's stock market. Timely, multi-disciplinary and practical, this informative Handbook will be an essential reference for students and scholars of economics, finance and accounting, finance professionals and security market regulators.

Book Synopsis Valuation of Unlisted Direct Investment Equity by : Emmanuel O. Kumah
Download or read book Valuation of Unlisted Direct Investment Equity written by Emmanuel O. Kumah and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2009-11-01 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper analyzes the seven valuation methods for unlisted direct investment equity included in the recently adopted IMF Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual, Sixth Edition (BPM6). Based on publicly available Danish data, we test the three methods that are generally applicable and find that the choice of valuation method and estimation technique can have a highly significant impact on the international investment position, pointing to the need for further harmonization. The results show that the price-to-book value method generates more robust market value estimates than the price-to-earnings method. This finding suggests that the valuation basis for the forthcoming Coordinated Direct Investment Survey - own funds at book value -will provide useful information for compiling the international investment position.

Book Synopsis Valuation Approaches and Metrics by : Aswath Damodaran
Download or read book Valuation Approaches and Metrics written by Aswath Damodaran and published by Now Publishers Inc. This book was released on 2005 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Valuation lies at the heart of much of what we do in finance, whether it is the study of market efficiency and questions about corporate governance or the comparison of different investment decision rules in capital budgeting. In this paper, we consider the theory and evidence on valuation approaches. We begin by surveying the literature on discounted cash flow valuation models, ranging from the first mentions of the dividend discount model to value stocks to the use of excess return models in more recent years. In the second part of the paper, we examine relative valuation models and, in particular, the use of multiples and comparables in valuation and evaluate whether relative valuation models yield more or less precise estimates of value than discounted cash flow models. In the final part of the paper, we set the stage for further research in valuation by noting the estimation challenges we face as companies globalize and become exposed to risk in multiple countries.

This book was released on 2021-09-06 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalization and Corporate Governance in Developing Countries provides a clear-eyed analysis of the effects of the global economy on developing countries, which often face an up-hill battle when they opt to compete in a global market. Listing on a foreign exchange alone can be daunting, because it means following the home rules as well as a different set of stringent rules and elevated cost required by the listing exchange. Within this context, the question of cost-effectiveness, the desirability of possible changes to the company and tangible benefits are raised. The effects of globalization clearly travel a two-way street. Is harmonization possible and sensible? This book weighs options and poses questions within a balanced assessment of new economic reality. This volume is in the International Law and Development Series edited by Professor Raj Bhala. Published under the Transnational Publishers imprint.
