Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Branch of the Caldwell Family Tree: Being a Record of Thompson Baxter Caldwell and His Wife, Mary Ann (Ames) Caldwell, of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Their Ancestors and Descendants The compilation of this record, although accomplished with considerable difficulty, was greatly facilitated by the fact, that, for over two hundred years, our ancestors, without exception, have lived within a radius of thirty miles from West Bridgewater, in Plymouth County, Mass, where I was born. The genealogical records of that town are so admirably preserved by Mitchell's History of 'bridgewater, and the vital records of that and neigh boring towns are so complete, that, with the kind assistance of the town clerks, who have responded courteously to every request for information, I have had comparatively little difficulty in tracing most of the lines back to the first settlers. Errors may have crept in, notwithstanding watchful and painstaking care to exclude them. In many cases I have refrained from extending herein lines of ancestry that seem to be correct, merely because I have been unable to procure the evidence to make them authentic.
