Book excerpt: Liz Kulp, was diagnosed with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) as a young teen. Knowing her challenges and understanding her strengths helped her graduate from public high school and strive to move on to independent adulthood like her peers. But, she soon learned that life within the context of a family that understood and helped her gain the desire for independence had not prepared her to live in a world filled with predators and abstract thinking. Liz unashamedly lets readers inside the hidden world of adult transition for many of our young people with FASD. It is a story you will not soon forget.
Download or read book A Braided Cord written by Jim Warren and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2014-02 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes life long learning expressed often as allegory or metaphor, but derived from life long events. The braided cord reflects the union of body, mind and soul, but because I am a surgeon, the body is topmost in my mind and my book. My exploration of flesh, and the rest, derives from 40 years of surgery and anatomy. All of us are in nature and of nature and there are no natural borders that divide us. To see nature and ourselves as through a prism leads us to the perception that we are broken up from ourselves and nature in the spectrum and we create borders that are artificial. We owe it to ourselves to embrace the Universal so we can arrive at the point that we realize we and nature are one white light. When we do, the ordinary becomes extraordinary, and a sense of unity will follow. I can't think how, in the past, I could have been so dumb. This book is both playful and intense but like nature, despite its diversity always returns, to a single theme.

Book Synopsis Splicing Modern Ropes by : Jan-Willem Polman
Download or read book Splicing Modern Ropes written by Jan-Willem Polman and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-05-05 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time when every vessel going to sea made use of 3-strand rope has gone. Splicing that type of rope and cord is relatively straightforward. Nowadays the most common type of rope used on board yachts, dinghies, motorboats, working boats and ferries is braided rope. Few people have the knowledge to splice it, or even where to start. Splicing Modern Ropes is the first guide to this essential skill. It explains why splices are better – and stronger – than knots or shackles for joining or shortening rope, and how to go about it. With this skill, yachtsmen can customise their ropes, optimise their deck layout, taper their sheets for ease of handling, and splice an extra cover on their ropes to give better grip, avoid chafe and make them last longer. Using clear, step-by-step photography and detailed instructions, this book will guide readers through all the stages required to make strong, reliable splices.
