Book Synopsis The Politics of Naming the Armenian Genocide by : Vartan Matiossian
Download or read book The Politics of Naming the Armenian Genocide written by Vartan Matiossian and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-23 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the genealogy of the concept of 'Medz Yeghern' ('Great Crime'), the Armenian term for the mass murder and ethnic cleansing of the Armenian ethno-religious group in the Ottoman Empire between the years 1915-1923. Widely accepted by historians as one of the classical cases of genocide in the 20th century, ascribing the right definition to the crime has been a source of contention and controversy in international politics. Vartan Matiossian here draws upon extensive research based on Armenian sources, neglected in much of the current historiography, as well as other European languages in order to trace the development of the concepts pertaining to mass killing and genocide of Armenians from the ancient to the modern periods. Beginning with an analysis of the term itself, he shows how the politics of its use evolved as Armenians struggled for international recognition of the crime after 1945, in the face of Turkish protest. Taking a combined historical, philological, literary and political perspective, the book is an insightful exploration of the politics of naming a catastrophic historical event, and the competitive nature of national collective memories.

Book Synopsis Control Theories of Crime and Delinquency by : Chester L. Britt
Download or read book Control Theories of Crime and Delinquency written by Chester L. Britt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past twenty to thirty years, control theories of crime have been at the center of theoretical development in criminology. Key to the control theory perspective is the notion that crime is an inherently individual act, and its explanation requires that we focus on the characteristics of individuals who commit crimes. Consequently, control theory focuses on such issues as self-control and social control. The contributions to this volume explicate and extend the application of control theory. It is divided into three general areas. Part 1 focuses on key assumptions and components of control theories. Contributors discuss the notion of learning, or socialization, in the context of control theory and the effects that families, peers, and the criminal justice system have on self-control, social ties, and criminal behavior. Part 2 applies control theory to areas typically assumed to be out of the domain of self-control theory and social control theory, such as gender differences in crime, domestic violence, and group crime. Considering control theory's emphasis on explaining individual criminal acts, these chapters suggest an interesting area of development by highlighting the possibility that differences in crime across or within groups may begin with individual characteristics and then making inferences about groups and group processes. Part 3 approaches the explanation of crime cross-nationally and at the macro-level. Although the authors take different approaches, they all illustrate that a theory of crime does not require culture-specific elements in order to be a valid cross-cultural explanation. Contributors to this volume include: Robert Agnew, Todd Armstrong, Leana Allen Bouffard, Augustine Brannigan, Chester Britt, Barbara Costello, Maja Dekovic, Matt DeLisi, Michael Gottfredson, Henriette Haas, Kelly H. Hardwick, Travis Hirschi, Marianne Junger, Martin Killias, Helen Mederer, Kevin Thompson, and Alexander Vazsonyi.

Book Synopsis Holy Vegan Earth by : God Creator of Universes
Download or read book Holy Vegan Earth written by God Creator of Universes and published by Moses Messenger of God. This book was released on 2018-08-20 with total page 803 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soon The Judgment Day of the Creator will happen. Billions of corpse-eaters, evil spirits from hell who have possessed human bodies and they are killing animals and eating corpse of animals will be executed and sent back home, to Hell for punishment and education. This is an extremely painful education. Be Warned. This Judgment Day of the Creator was mentioned by me, Moses 3300 years ago and by Jesus 2000 years ago and by Mohammad 1400 years ago. Holy Vegan Earth, the last book of the Creator that updates all previous books, Quran, Bible and Torah was revealed to me, Moses and I wrote it from 2012 to 2018. Book contains guidelines. It contains Theological, Philosophical and Scientific content related to the subjects of some educational stories. It contains a long story that started in 7000 BC and continued to my next appearance on the Earth as Moses in 1300 BC and now, again as Moses to warn people about the soon happening Judgment Day. Book contains a True Story. Fiction, it is not. Two conditions should apply then you will survive. (1) Belief in the Creator (2) Be a Vegan, that means you learned a simple lesson from Eleven Commandments that I brought for you from the Creator. Yes. 11 Commandments, not 10. The 11th Commandment is You must be Vegan. You should not kill any innocent human animal or other animals. Those who violate the law will be executed humiliatingly and burned in hell for eternity. Book contains many paintings that I created to accompany the Theological content to make it easier to digest and many Plans for Vegan Activists. Ve establish the Vegan Earth by Genocide. This is my wish. When the Creator will do it is out of my jurisdiction. However, you have no excuse any more. You are warned clearly. You like it or not, do not matter. This is plan of the Creator typed by Moses Messenger of the Creator in 2012-2018 from direct communication with the Creator, the Unified Field, the Unity, Creator of Universes. If you are atheist, I have included seven proofs of the existence of the Creator in this book. Some are complex Mathematical proofs and some are simple. Depends on level of your intelligence you can find a proof that you can understand. Read, learn, understand and surrender to words of the Creator and Prophet of the Creator, Moses. Go Vegan, you will live. Stay corpse-eater, you will be eradicated like bacteria and will be burned in hell. Use your brain. You will find logic and reasoning in this book. Convert to Vegan. Convert to a believer in the Creator. If you do not use your brain, in hell you will learn by pain. Evidence and Proof is the only important matter. The Unified Field is God. The Unified Field is the Creator of Universe. In this book of God, the Sixth Book of Moses, I included the evidence and proof that I am communicating with the Unified Field. It is a two-direction communication. I proved I am Moses. Belief without reasoning and proof worth zero. Vegans who are believers in the Creator will inherit the Earth. Rest of humans will be wood for fire of hell. 01 - 110 - Ve start with 110. There is hope. 02 - 112 - Only if the 112, God helps. And He promised to do so. 03 - 097 - Revelations in uncountable nights of determination. 04 - 094 - I am here, again, Moses has one command, Go Vegan or go to Hell. 05 - 106 - Be afraid of one who is friend of the Creator of Universes. Love for Animals. Death to Corpse-Eaters. 06 - 108 - I am grateful. Ve use Your resources only for Justice for Animals. 07 - 113 - Ve count on You. 08 - 114 - Ve are aware and do the best that can be done. 09 - 109 - Kill them all. 10 - 111 - Hell for them is Justice. 11 - 110 - Ve Own the Earth. Animal Rights, Vegan, Ve inherit the Earth. Ve count on Your Power. Second column are representative of numbers described in the book. The last seal arrived in a 97 and ended in 110. Wait for the Judgment day. Soon. I am waiting. ... .. .

Book Synopsis The Necessity of Witness by : Ariaan Baan
Download or read book The Necessity of Witness written by Ariaan Baan and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-08-17 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of witness is a recurring theme in the work of Stanley Hauerwas: it is through enacting the truth in a world of lies, through seeking peace in a world of violence, that witnesses show who God is, who we are, and what the world is like. The Necessity of Witness is a study of Hauerwas and his fascinating but complex understanding of witness. Ariaan W. Baan argues that Hauerwas's approach makes a significant contribution to current debates in systematic theology on the relation between truth and life. Reading Hauerwas can be a precarious adventure. His rhetoric is overwhelming, but his argument is not always crystal clear and carefully formulated. With the help of semiotic and philosophical analysis and biblical exegesis, Baan articulates Hauerwas's intuitions, fills some of the gaps in his argumentation, and discloses hidden biases. The results of this analysis sometimes surprise. Baan notes that unexpected pericopes in Scripture such as Isaiah and Revelation support Hauerwas's account of witness, and concludes that his work offers insight into how in our late modern society such diverse groups as martyrs and pop stars offer implicit witness through their lives.
Book Synopsis Black Scare / Red Scare by : Charisse Burden-Stelly
Download or read book Black Scare / Red Scare written by Charisse Burden-Stelly and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2023-11-14 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A radical explication of the ways anti-Black racial oppression has infused the US government’s anti-communist repression. In the early twentieth century, two panics emerged in the United States. The Black Scare was rooted in white Americans’ fear of Black Nationalism and dread at what social, economic, and political equality of Black people might entail. The Red Scare, sparked by communist uprisings abroad and subversion at home, established anticapitalism as a force capable of infiltrating and disrupting the American order. In Black Scare / Red Scare, Charisse Burden-Stelly meticulously outlines the conjoined nature of these state-sanctioned panics, revealing how they unfolded together as the United States pursued capitalist domination. Antiradical repression, she shows, is inseparable from anti-Black oppression, and vice versa. Beginning her account in 1917—the year of the Bolshevik Revolution, the East St. Louis Race Riot, and the Espionage Act—Burden-Stelly traces the long duration of these intertwined and mutually reinforcing phenomena. She theorizes two bases of the Black Scare / Red Scare: US Capitalist Racist Society, a racially hierarchical political economy built on exploitative labor relationships, and Wall Street Imperialism, the violent processes by which businesses and the US government structured domestic and foreign policies to consolidate capital and racial domination. In opposition, Radical Blackness embodied the government’s fear of both Black insurrection and Red instigation. The state’s actions and rhetoric therefore characterized Black anticapitalists as foreign, alien, and undesirable. This reactionary response led to an ideology that Burden-Stelly calls True Americanism, the belief that the best things about America were absolutely not Red and not Black, which were interchangeable threats. Black Scare / Red Scare illuminates the anticommunist nature of the US and its governance, but also shines a light on a misunderstood tradition of struggle for Black liberation. Burden-Stelly highlights the Black anticapitalist organizers working within and alongside the international communist movement and analyzes the ways the Black Scare/Red Scare reverberates through ongoing suppression of Black radical activism today. Drawing on a range of administrative, legal, and archival sources, Burden-Stelly incorporates emancipatory ideas from several disciplines to uncover novel insights into Black political minorities and their legacy.

Download or read book Treatise on International Criminal Law written by Kai Ambos and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2013-01-24 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the adoption of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court in 1998, international criminal law has rapidly grown in importance. This three-volume Treatise on International Criminal Law presents a foundational, systematic, consistent and comprehensive analysis of international criminal law. Taking into account the scholarly literature, not only sources written in English but also in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish, the book draws on the author's extensive academic and practical work in international criminal law. This first volume addresses the foundations of international criminal law and the emerging general principles. It examines the history of the discipline and the concepts behind it. Looking at the sources of international criminal law, the book then moves to investigate the general structure of crime in international criminal law, and to address in detail the role played by the concept of individual criminal responsibility. The subjective requirements of criminal responsibility are examined, and also those defences that exclude such responsibility. The full three-volume treatise will address the entirety of international criminal law, re-stating and re-examining the fundamental principles upon which it rests, the manner it is enacted, and the key issues that are shaping its future. It will be essential reading for practitioners, scholars, and students of international criminal law alike.

Book Synopsis What Catholics Need to Know About Islam by : William K. Kilpatrick
Download or read book What Catholics Need to Know About Islam written by William K. Kilpatrick and published by Sophia Institute Press. This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is no longer permissible to have an honest conversation about Islam. Those who warn about Islam's threat to our way of life are dismissed as racists and xenophobes by social elites and even by many in the Catholic hierarchy. For centuries, the Catholic Church served as a bulwark against Islamic expansion. Today the Church is an enabler of Islam, encouraging mass migration into the West and portraying Islam as a peace-loving religion that has nothing to do with terrorism. In this highly informative, hard-hitting book, Catholic author William Kilpatrick pulls no punches in courageously confronting the threats posed by Islam. He shows how Muslim activists are employing the same tactics that led to the meteoric rise of the LGBT movement and how they have systematically infiltrated the government, media, business, schools, and even churches. He explains how Western self-hatred and p
Download or read book Zora written by Arelo Sederberg and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2000-12 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central and precipitating event in this first-rate historical novel by the author of The Kingmakers is the genocide of the Armenians carried out by the Turks in 1915. As a girl of 12, Zora Kazorian witnesses her mother's murder and the slaughter of her neighbors at the hands of the Turkish butcher Kemal Gokalp, aka the Gray Wolf. After a long struggle, she escapes to America with her 10-year-old brother Arra. Years of a different kind of struggle ensue, and in the end the Kazorians achieve brilliant success in their new country-she as an opera diva and he as a businessman. But success is not enough. Zora burns with a need to right the old wrong, or at least gain an admission that it occurred; most people quickly forgot about the massacre, a fact that was not lost on Hitler. So, 40 years later, Zora arranges an accounting with the perpetrators. Richly and authentically detailed, with characters of dimension and substance, this novel convincingly illuminates a tragic era. In addition to his vivid characterizations, Sederberg's ability to integrate long stretches of time and wide sweeps of geography and circumstance is impressive.
