Download or read book Shelldrake written by Harold A. Skaarup and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Shelldrake is an informative and detailed synopsis of the carefully preserved and restored guns and artillery on display in Canada. The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery is represented by a long and distinguished line of gunners with historical ties back to the days before Canada's Confederation. The honour of defending Canada while standing steady to support operations overseas in peace and war continues to this day. In doing so, it is necessary to remember that the weapons of war are an integral part of what keeps this nation safe, although the examples that have been used to make it so are few and far between. The descriptions of Canadian artillery and the places of honour where they can be viewed highlights the importance of the equipment that brought our nation forward at key turning points in history when our guns were in use as tools of war at home and overseas. This guide book will show the interested reader where to find examples of the historical guns preserved in Canada, and perhaps serve as a window on how Canada's military contribution to security in the world has evolved."--Page 4 of cover.

Book Synopsis The American Arsenal by : Ian V. Hogg
Download or read book The American Arsenal written by Ian V. Hogg and published by Frontline Books. This book was released on 2014-11-02 with total page 901 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During WWII, various U.S. military agencies produced catalogues of equipment to fill the gaps left by the official War Department manuals, which led to inconsistent data appearing in different sources. In order to standardize information and properly catalogue all the equipment, the U.S. Ordnance Department put together a master guide, published here as The American Arsenal. All the information was checked and authenticated by reference to Ordnance Committee Minutes and similar authorities. No other single source provides so much accurate and authentic detail on U.S. weapons, ammunition, vehicles and other combat equipment, with an authoritative explanation of their development and introduction processes. Profusely illustrated with over 900 photographs and drawings, the facts and figures are set in context in the introduction by weapons expert Ian V. Hogg. This is an invaluable reference work for those interested in the military equipment of WWII.
Book Synopsis FM 6-81 155-MM Howitzer M1 Field Manual by : Department of the Army
Download or read book FM 6-81 155-MM Howitzer M1 Field Manual written by Department of the Army and published by Periscope Film LLC. This book was released on 2013-06 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 155-mm Howitzer M1 was first produced in 1942 as a medium artillery piece. It saw service with the US Army during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, before being replaced by the M198 Howitzer. The gun was used by the armed forces of many nations, and in some countries, it still remains in service. The 155-mm Howitzer was developed as an afterthought. A new carriage was under development for much of the 1930s for the existing World War I era M1918 until 1939 when it was realized that it did not seem logical to put a new carriage underneath an obsolete howitzer. Consequently, development began anew with a carriage designed to be used for the 155-mm Howitzer. This was completed by May 15th, 1941 when the Howitzer M1 on the Carriage M1 was standardized. The howitzer itself differed from the older model by a lengthened barrel of twenty calibers and a new breech mechanism. Uniquely, it was the sole 'slow-cone' interrupted screw mechanism to enter service after 1920. This meant that two separate movements were necessary to open the breech, versus the single movement of the 'steep cone' mechanism that simultaneously rotated and withdrew the breech. Created in 1948, this field manual reveals a great deal about the 155-mm Howitzer M1's design and capabilities. Intended as a manual for those in the service of the piece, it details many aspects of the M1's assembly, maintenance, and accessories. Originally labeled restricted, this manual was declassified long ago and is here reprinted in book form. Care has been taken to preserve the integrity of the text.
