Book Synopsis Theory of Electromagnetic Well Logging by : C. Richard Liu
Download or read book Theory of Electromagnetic Well Logging written by C. Richard Liu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 733 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory of Electromagnetic Well Logging provides a much-needed and complete analytical method for electromagnetic well logging technology. The book presents the physics and mathematics behind the effective measurement of rock properties using boreholes, allowing geophysicists, petrophysisists, geologists and engineers to interpret them in a more rigorous way. Starting with the fundamental concepts, the book then moves on to the more classic subject of wireline induction logging, before exploring the subject of LWD logging, concluding with new thoughts on electromagnetic telemetry. Theory of Electromagnetic Well Logging is the only book offering an in-depth discussion of the analytical and numerical techniques needed for expert use of those new logging techniques. - Features in-depth analysis of the analytical and numerical techniques needed for expert use of logging techniques - Includes software codes, providing a handy tool for understanding logging tool physics and design of new logging tools - Provides a detailed glossary of all key terms within the introductory chapter

Book Synopsis Social Informatics by : Pnina Fichman
Download or read book Social Informatics written by Pnina Fichman and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03-17 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social Informatics: Past, Present and Future is a collection of twelve papers that provides a state-of-the-art review of 21st century social informatics. Two papers review the history of social informatics, and show that its intellectual roots can be found in the late 1970s and early ’80s and that it emerged in several different locations around the world before it coalesced in the US in the mid-1990s. The evolution of social informatics is described under four periods: foundational work, development and expansion, a robust period of coherence, and a period of diversification that continues today. Five papers provide a view of the breadth and depth of contemporary social informatics, demonstrating the diversity of theoretical and methodological approaches that can be used. A further five papers explore the future of social informatics and offer provocative and disparate visions of its trajectory, ranging from arguments for a new philosophical grounding for social informatics, to calls for a social informatics based on practice thinking and materiality. This book presents a view of SI that emphasizes the core relationship among people, ICT and organizational and social life from a perspective that integrates aspects of social theory and demonstrates clearly that social informatics has never been a more necessary research endeavor than it is now.

Book Synopsis Spiritualizing Politics without Politicizing Religion by : James R. Price
Download or read book Spiritualizing Politics without Politicizing Religion written by James R. Price and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2022-03-31 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The clash of religion and politics has been a steady source of polarization in North America. In order to think wisely and constructively about the spiritual dimension of our political life, there is need for an approach that can both maintain the diversity of belief and foster values founded on the principles of religion. In Spiritualizing Politics without Politicizing Religion, James R. Price and Kenneth R. Melchin provide a possible framework, approaching issues in politics via a profile of Sargent Shriver (1915-2011), an American diplomat, politician, and a driving force behind the creation of the Peace Corps. Focusing on the speeches Shriver delivered in the course of his work to advance civil rights and build world peace, Price and Melchin highlight the spiritual component of his efforts to improve institutional structures and solve social problems. They contextualize Shriver’s approach by contrasting it with contemporary, landmark decisions of the U.S Supreme Court on the role of religion in politics. In doing so, Spiritualizing Politics without Politicizing Religion explains that navigating the relationship of religion and politics requires attending to both the religious diversity that politics must guard and the religious involvements that politics needs to do its work.
