Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The four nations of the UK each have distinctive policy and curricula in relation to Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC). This new textbook offers a comprehensive look at early years education in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, bringing the curriculum frameworks for each country together in one place. Drawing on the cultural and practical pedagogy of each curriculum, this book aims to develop students’ understanding of the development, care, education, health, well-being and upbringing of young children across the UK in a social, pedagogical and policy context. Divided into two sections, the first examines each country’s learning and teaching requirements in detail within a policy context. The book then explores the similarities and differences between the curricula, focusing on key areas such as play, the indoor and outdoor learning environment, the family and assessment. Accessible and engaging, this book will help students to analyse and question practice both in their own country and across all four Home Nations. Features include: case studies to illustrate practice and a frequently asked questions section in each chapter to clarify key points and opportunities for reflection and debate. Including contributions from expert practitioners in each country, this text is essential reading for all students studying early childhood and will help them to understand the impact of policy on children and families across the UK.

Book excerpt: The migration of farm workers to rural Scotland is an important issue that relates to the existing theories and research in contemporary equality and cultural capital studies, particularly in regard to the exploration of how and in what ways cultural capital theory can be addressed to study migrants equality claims, the examination of how complex equality models can be used for inquiry into the reinforcement of inequalities in cultural capital and the accumulative effects of such inequality. In particular, the experiences of East European migrant farm workers challenge theoretical perspectives that apply a) an approach of equality claim from cultural capital, which emphasize b) equal right to recognition, and therefore, c) focus on entitlement to equal protection against any discrimination. This book, therefore, offers us a way to explore these experiences with a call for attention to be paid to a large number of East European migrant farm workers who have migrated to rural Scotland to work in low paid jobs marked with low skills. Unlike majority members of a population, migrant farm workers often give up their cultural capital and take up low skilled jobs in order to gain opportunities for success in other spheres in their lives. Critiquing such a trade-off approach, if the sphere of migrants cultural capital is invaded and the cultural capital of local workers (native) is acknowledged, migrants are in a vulnerable position. I also argue although migrants achievements are devalued, and their substantive equality remains unprotected, their claim from cultural capital is relatively strong and valid to manage. The more vulnerable a migrants cultural capital is in terms of recognition and protection, the stronger his or her claim from cultural capital will be. Under the theoretical framework, I argue that if equal recognitions of cultural capital are not actively ensured, this is highly likely to produce increased claims to equality.

This book was released on 2015 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 17 October 2014, the European Commission informed HM Treasury that the UK would have to make an additional contribution to the EU budget of approximately 2.1 billion euro. This additional contribution had been prompted by revisions to EU Member States' historic Gross National Income (GNI) data, dating back to 1995. Member States make several annual contributions to the EU budget, by far the most significant being a levy on GNI. This levy is charged as a percentage rate on Member States' annual GNI, with the rate set at a level designed to cover exactly the portion of the EU Budget which remains unfunded once the other sources of income - namely Traditional Own Resources' and VAT-based resources - have been taken into account. The result is that an individual Member State contributes to this portion of the budget in proportion to its share of total GNI across all Member States. In 2013, GNI-based contributions amounted to 74 per cent of the EU's total budget. Emerging from the ECOFIN summit of 7 November 2014, the Chancellor claimed to have "halved the bill" of £1.7 billion demanded by the EU. He later described this as the result of "hard-fought negotiation" with the Commission to ensure that the consequential change to the UK's rebate would apply. The calculation of the rebate, and the circumstances in which it applies, are embedded in EU law. This is set out in detail in Council Decision 2007/436/EC and the supporting Council document on the UK correction. These documents establish the precise method for calculating the rebate. On the basis of the evidence the Committee has seen, it should have been unambiguously clear to the Treasury, well in advance of ECOFIN on 7 November 2014, that the UK was entitled to a rebate on any additional budget contributions that could arise from the GNI revisions.

Book excerpt: The great energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy is under way. As oil insecurity deepens, the extraction risks of fossil fuels rise, and concerns about climate instability cast a shadow over the future of coal, a new world energy economy is emerging. The old economy, fueled by oil, natural gas, and coal is being replaced with one powered by wind, solar, and geothermal energy. The Great Transition details the accelerating pace of this global energy revolution. As many countries become less enamored with coal and nuclear power, they are embracing an array of clean, renewable energies. Whereas solar energy projects were once small-scale, largely designed for residential use, energy investors are now building utility-scale solar projects. Strides are being made: some of the huge wind farm complexes under construction in China will each produce as much electricity as several nuclear power plants, and an electrified transport system supplemented by the use of bicycles could reshape the way we think about mobility.

This book was released on 2017-05-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his book, ‘No:1 Market Top Secret’, the author showed that he had discovered how to calculate market prices in advance with over 95% accuracy. In fact, in the book he consistently showed that by Market Triangulation he was 99% to the fourth decimal point correct, and sometimes right on the target at 100%. The author started his career in financial services over twenty years ago, with National Mutual Australia, selling various types of insurances, superannuation and investment plans, as well as both savings and lump sum bonds on a 100% commission basis. He then became a Financial Planner and a very good one. Associates would tell him he was a smart operator but it wasn’t until he moved to Sydney that he really proved this to himself. The analyst firm said they were crashing and have done so for the last four years since, but the DOW Jones and SP500 keep rising. Why? The answer is in this book. In 2011 the author started studying more heavily than usual. He was on a mission and was going to find out the truth - the truth on how the markets truly moved and how to target simply and easily, and he was going to target his accuracy rate to over 95%. He was studying seven days a week, totaling 3,000 hours of study in just 9 months. On the 28th October 2011, the author went to a client’s funeral in Sydney. Despite the sadness of that occasion, during the week spent in Sydney he realised that he could now target to a point value on indexes and stocks to greater than 95% accuracy. It had only taken him nine months of extreme intense study. Just nine months - that’s all! Einstein apparently said that ‘MC2’ is easy but could you come up with it? That is, a simple technology and process to get it right (close to and sometimes 100% right) but very hard to work it out initially. The author is not saying he was Einstein – he could not even come close. It will give you peace of mind when entering a position and you know the exact outcome (or almost the exact outcome) before you execute the trade. What you are going to see is going to lower your risk, multiply your profitable outcomes and allow you to complete a simple calculation and get the right outcomes over 95% of the time. Like the author, you can eventually achieve almost 100% accuracy most of the time, if you follow the few basic rules. Would you like that? The author studied Ralph Elliott and what he called the Elliott Wave Principle (which for the remainder of this book will be called the Wave Principle or Wave Theory). If one has a good understanding when applying the methods in this book it may help, but it is not necessary, as within these pages are the correct pathways to use (Tri-Rhythms), as he has named them, to get a greater than 95% accuracy and, in time, over 99% accurate. You will be shown a very simple method of calculating and projecting price targets. The author discovered a mathematical technology truth that no one else has in their books or has published, and it is easy to use. Anyone can do it with just the material in this book, a chart, and a calculator; all of which easily accessible on a tablet or IPad. This mathematical truth and technology works on all time frames and only takes a few minutes to work out. In fact, it takes less than a minute with a bit of practice. If you are trading 10 or 30 second charts you must react very quickly and be very confident of what is going to happen and what your targets are. Would you like to look at a chart, do a calculation and enter a winning trade that will have a greater than 95% chance of success and all in less than a minute? With the target in mind of winning 95%, and then on to 99% of the time or more, we start in Chapter One with the reason why this is so dependable. This book is written assuming you know how to trade and you have been trading for some time. All you will need to do is draw a few lines on a page and make some calculations, and this comes under Technical Charting. However, you are not looking for a heap of different patterns, you are looking for just a couple at the start and end of a trend. The rhythms of the markets can be drilled down to Circles, Squares and Triangles. In this book we focus on the triangle rhythms in the No 1 Market Top Secret and we are going to show you the mathematically correct “wave”/Triangulation Rhythm model. The “Gumm Rhythm”

Book excerpt: A NEW YORK TIMES CRITICS' TOP BOOK OF THE YEAR • One of our most brilliant biographers takes on one of our greatest living playwrights, drawing on a wealth of new materials and on many conversations with him. “An extraordinary record of a vital and evolving artistic life, replete with textured illuminations of the plays and their performances, and shaped by the arc of Stoppard’s exhilarating engagement with the world around him, and of his eventual awakening to his own past.” —Harper's Tom Stoppard is a towering and beloved literary figure. Known for his dizzying narrative inventiveness and intense attention to language, he deftly deploys art, science, history, politics, and philosophy in works that span a remarkable spectrum of literary genres: theater, radio, film, TV, journalism, and fiction. His most acclaimed creations—Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Real Thing, Arcadia, The Coast of Utopia, Shakespeare in Love—remain as fresh and moving as when they entranced their first audiences. Born in Czechoslovakia, Stoppard escaped the Nazis with his mother and spent his early years in Singapore and India before arriving in England at age eight. Skipping university, he embarked on a brilliant career, becoming close friends over the years with an astonishing array of writers, actors, directors, musicians, and political figures, from Peter O'Toole, Harold Pinter, and Stephen Spielberg to Mick Jagger and Václav Havel. Having long described himself as a "bounced Czech," Stoppard only learned late in life of his mother's Jewish family and of the relatives he lost to the Holocaust. Lee's absorbing biography seamlessly weaves Stoppard's life and work together into a vivid, insightful, and always riveting portrait of a remarkable man.

Book excerpt: The Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief, as proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981, is the only universal human rights instrument specifically focusing on religious intolerance and discrimination. However, recent years have seen increasing controversy surrounding this right, in both political and legal contexts. The European Court of Human Rights has experienced a vast expansion in the number of cases it has had brought before it concerning religious freedom, and politically the boundaries of the right have been much disputed. This book provides a systematic analysis of the different approaches to religious rights which exist in public international law. The book explores how particular institutional perspectives emerge in the context of these differing approaches. It examines, and challenges, these institutional perspectives. It identifies new directions for approaching religious rights through international law by examining existing legal tools, and assesses their achievements and shortcomings. It studies religious organisations' support for international human rights protection, as well as religious critique of international human rights and the development of an alternative religious 'Bills of Rights'. It investigates whether expressions of members belonging to religious minorities can be considered under the minority right to culture, rather than the right to religion, and discusses the benefits and shortcomings of such a route. It analyses the reach and limits of the provisions in the 1981 Declaration, identifies ways in which the right is being eroded as a concept, and suggests new ways in which the right can be reinforced and protected.

Academy sponsorship has encouraged and facilitated the contribution of individuals not previously involved in education provision and laid down a challenge to maintained schools to improve or face replacement by the insurgent academy model. The development of outstanding Multi Academy Trusts like Ark and Harris offers an alternative system to the one overseen by local authorities while the unified Ofsted inspection regime and published performance data generally allows fair judgment of comparative performance. There is a complex relationship between attainment, autonomy, collaboration and accountability. Current evidence does not allow the Committee to draw conclusions on whether academies in themselves are a positive force for change. This is partly a matter of timing but more information is needed on the performance of individual academy chains. Most academy freedoms are in fact available to all schools and Committee recommends that curriculum freedoms are also extended to maintained schools.

It is an invaluable tool for ascertaining the pulse of American public opinion as it evolves over the course of a given year, and—over time—documents changing public perceptions of crucial political, economic, and societal issues. It is a necessity for any social science research.
