This book was released on 2018-05-13 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God called me in September 1994. It was during my quiet time before going out for my consulting practice. I was then the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Consultant of Alaryn Management Centre Ltd. I was deeply involved in boosting sales, training and equipping managers and officers of various companies who retained us as their Management/Training consultant. By the grace of God, several small and big companies grew and benefitted from our consulting services. I heard God clearly telling me on that fateful morning thus "The same things you are giving to the business world, package it, give it to my church, beginning with the Bible..." I have been doing just that since 1994, as CEO Christian Leadership Skills Inc. The divine call is one of the reasons why I wrote this book. I have been involved in Christian leadership since 1982. But I started pastoring in 1995, as Senior Pastor. It has been my motivation, desire and passion to see God's work grow and progress. Most of the principles in this book, if not all, have been practiced with results in our ministry. When I was privileged to become the President of AGAPE Conference in 1987, only one or two churches attended. By 2003, 203 churches from 85 denominations became regular participants. In other words, I am a fellow student with you dear precious reader in this same school of church growth. This is the second reason why I wrote this book . My wife, Lara, is a Mathematician. She has been teaching Mathematics since 1989. Naturally, she likes computation and percentages. We came back from a Pastors' meeting one evening, Lara analyzed the various reports submitted by about 187 churches. Her statistical conclusion got my attention. She found out that only two churches of the lot were above 1,000 in attendance. Only one church was 500 in attendance, ten churches averaged 300 worshippers. About twenty-four churches were above 100. One hundred and fifty churches were below 100 in attendance. Though our church was above 1,000 at that time, we received a burden, a mandate to seek for what factors make for church growth. When we searched further, we discovered that 87% of churches in Nigeria were below 200 in attendance. This is the third reason why I wrote this book. It is to report our findings on what make churches grow. I have also discovered that success in ministry is more than numbers. What makes for success in the eyes of God, the LORD of the harvest, is not the same indices used by men to bench mark success. There are habits found with successful pastors. In fact, by and large, success in ministry is an inside job. No work can grow faster on the outside than the man behind the work is growing on the inside. This is my fourth reason for writing this book. The challenge of growth is enormous in the gospel ministry in Nigeria and Africa. The problem and challenges we face are not the same as those faced in other lands and under different climes. The few books we are reading on Church Growth are written by foreign authors, far removed from our context. Many are not relevant to Africa. Except from the writings of Dr. Francis Akin-John, Bishiop David Oyedepo, Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo and very few others, there are not many books and literature on what makes churches and ministries to grow in our contemporary African setting. If this gap is filled a little by this book, then the fifth reason for its writing is justified. We need to continually elevate our thoughts in search of solutions to problems that confront us today. We can not solve our current problems with the level of thinking of yesteryears. This book is a little effort to advance the frontiers of knowledge on the subject of church growth. This is the seventh reason why it took me about 25 years of christian leadership experience, over a decade in pastoring small and growing large churches, and 100,0000 hours, to put down 100 ways to increase church attendance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to grow in love for your church. God calls us to be "devoted to one another in love" (Romans 12:10). What does this look like for us today? How can we be the kind of church member who makes a real difference? This engaging book by Tony Merida explores what church is, why being part of it is exciting, and why it’s worthy of our love and commitment. He sets out eight privileges and responsibilities of a church member: to belong, to welcome, to gather, to care, to serve, to honour, to witness and to send. As we see how wonderful it is to belong to God’s family and be a part of his amazing witness to both the earthly and the heavenly realms, we’ll grow in our love for and commitment to our local church. This is a great book for every churchgoer to read, whether they’re new or have been attending for some time but need re-energising with God’s vision for the local church. With a discussion guide at the end of the book, Love Your Church is also a great resource for small groups.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over a quarter of a century the problem of losing church members has progressively increased. Today the situation is so bad that less than one-third of the members in some churches attend worship services. Church leaders are crying for help.In an effort to help church leaders, the Billy Graham School of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary conducted a massive research project involving nearly 287 churches. The most revealing aspect of the study was that the higher expectations placed on members, the greater the likelihood that the members would stay and be involved with the church. Using the data gathered from this project, Thom Rainer presents the first-ever comprehensive study about 'closing the back door.' Rainer looks at why people are leaving the church and how church leaders can keep the members.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most church members don't see their churches clearly. In almost all of Thom S. Rainer's consultations, church members perceive their church to be friendly. But as he surveyed guests, he found that the guests typically saw church members as unfriendly. The perception chasm existed because the members were indeed friendly . . . to one another. The guests felt like they crashed a private party. Bestselling author Thom Rainer (I Am a Church Member, Autopsy of a Deceased Church) has a game plan for churches to become more hospitable. In a format that is suitable for church members to read individually or study together, Rainer guides readers toward a practical framework for making a difference for those who visit their church. Churches may use Becoming a Welcoming Church to assess and audit where they are on a spectrum between welcoming and wanting. Additionally, churches can use the companion book We Want You Here to send guests home with a compelling vision for what pastors want every guest to know when they visit.

Book excerpt: Every pastor wants their church to grow, but the reality is that most churches are stagnant or shrinking, leaving most pastors frustrated, weary, and discouraged. They continue to search for answers at conferences, in books, and on websites, but they don't find them. They don't realize that the answers that can actually make a difference in their ministry are the ones they need to give themselves. When Your Church Feels Stuck poses seven unavoidable questions church leaders must answer before they can chart the unique path to growth for their church. These challenging questions address the key subjects of mission, strategy, values, metrics, team alignment, culture, and services, and the way pastors answers these questions will help them discover the real reasons their churches are stuck--and what steps to take to facilitate real growth.

Yet, more than a good idea, it’s a biblical, first-century standard with far-reaching evangelistic potential. How can your church overcome the obstacles to become a healthy multi-ethnic community of faith? And why should you even try? In Leading a Healthy Multi-Ethnic Church (formerly titled Ethnic Blends), Dr. Mark DeYmaz provides an up-close-and-personal look at seven common challenges to creating diversity in your church. Through real-life stories and practical illustrations, DeYmaz shows how to overcome the obstacles in order to lead a healthy multi-ethnic church. He also includes the insights of other effective multi-ethnic church leaders from the United States and Australia, as well as study questions at the end of each chapter. Leading a Healthy Multi-Ethnic Church describes what effective local churches in the 21st century will look like and shows us how to create them, together as one, beyond race and class distinctions. –Miles McPherson, Senior Pastor, The Rock Church, San Diego, CA Mark DeYmaz, perhaps more than any pastor in America, has his pulse on what it will take for the Church to find real reconciliation in our generation. –Matt Carter, Lead Pastor, Austin Stone Community Church, Austin, TX

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Churches over the past generations have been weakened by a failure to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of their communities. Many have adopted a narrow vision, focusing on only one aspect of ministry. But in today's environment of faith-based opportunities many Christians are eager to start reaching out to their world with both Good News and good works, and therefore they are searching for appropriate ways to integrate both into their ministry. In Churches That Make a Difference, best-selling author Ron Sider and his coauthors give those involved in community outreach a comprehensive resource for developing holistic ministry--a balance of evangelism and social outreach. Illustrations and helpful organizational tips detail the how-to's of an effective holistic ministry. Case studies that show how different churches across the United States reach out to their communities provide a variety of ideas and practical applications. User-friendly tools are included as well for congregational studies, surveys, evaluations, and community assessments. The authors draw on extensive experience with church ministries and faith-based organizations as they share the life-changing vision and biblical mandate for living the whole gospel. Church leaders will be encouraged in their process of developing and maintaining a holistic ministry, and local churches will rediscover a passion for loving the whole person the way Jesus did.
