Book Synopsis 500 Animals in Clay by : Suzanne J. E. Tourtillott
Download or read book 500 Animals in Clay written by Suzanne J. E. Tourtillott and published by Sterling Publishing Company, Inc.. This book was released on 2006 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No other volume has ever presented such a diverse and captivating collection of contemporary animal-themed ceramics. Juried by distinguished artist and educator Joe Bova, this magnificent gallery includes pieces from an international group of artists; the beautifully crafted works range from the representational to the abstract, from artful realism to provocative surrealism (including animal-human hybrids). Ann Marais image of a waterfowl painted onto a porcelain dish has a restrained, Asian quality. Sharkus painted and smoke-fired stoneware turtle could easily be mistaken for the living creature. Bova provides astute and illuminating commentary overall, with selected artists notes."

Book Synopsis 500 Figures in Clay by : Veronika Alice Gunter
Download or read book 500 Figures in Clay written by Veronika Alice Gunter and published by Lark Books. This book was released on 2004 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s an absolutely unequalled photographic gallery: no other book has ever presented such a varied, captivating collection of contemporary ceramics based on the human form. The works range from representational to abstract, from artful realism to provocative surrealism, and many of them come from leaders in the field such as Judy Fox, Kurt Weiser, and Andy Nasisse. Kay Yourist has produced female forms that are smooth, minimalist vessels with only the slightest hint of breasts and belly. The simple, rounded features of Diane Lublinski’s black-and-white figures possess a fun, clown-like whimsy. Michael A. Prather’s mournful ceramic portraits have frowning faces and pointed dunce-like heads in a muted color palette. Many of the ceramics come with detail images and illuminating artist’s commentary.

Book Synopsis Thinking Statistically by : Anthony Banfield
Download or read book Thinking Statistically written by Anthony Banfield and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-04-26 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statistical statements and results are read and used in everyday life and are also presented in the form of charts and diagrams. This book covers basic introductory statistics and brings to light how these statistical results are arrived at, starting with the collection of the data, its organization and summarisation, followed by the mathematical tools used both graphical and analytical to depict, describe, analyse and interpret the data. The book begins with a chapter that discusses what is data, types of data, and examines the difference between data collected for a population as opposed to a sample. The chapters that follow go on to discuss the organisation and summarisation of data in the form of frequency distributions to make it clearer and more manageable to deal with. Also covered are various graphical devices such as bar graphs, pie charts, histograms, frequency polygons, by which data may be depicted to make it easier to visualize and reveal any patterns or trends. Attention is then directed to analytical methods used to describe and characterise data sets by calculating some special numbers called numerical descriptive measures which include measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode), measures of dispersion (range, standard variation, variance), measures of relative standing (percentiles, quartiles, z- scores) and measures of association (coefficient of correlation). The book concludes with a chapter presenting some basic methods of fitting a straight line to a data set that shows a somewhat linear relationship between two variables thus allowing predictions to be made about the value of one variable given the value of the other variable. Within each chapter wherever new statistical terms are introduced for the first time they are identified in bold type and at the end of each chapter these key terms are summarised and defined or explained. There are also various detailed worked examples in each chapter to help the reader improve his/her understanding of the material discussed.
