Book Synopsis Planning for the Wrong Pandemic by : Andrew Lakoff
Download or read book Planning for the Wrong Pandemic written by Andrew Lakoff and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-07-09 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fractious and disorganized governmental response to the coronavirus pandemic in the United States prompted many observers to ask: why was the country—which had the knowledge, resources, and plans to deal with such an event—caught so unprepared? Critics pointed to a number of candidates for blame: a President who was dismissive of scientific expertise and indifferent to the task of leading government response; a fragmented media landscape that enabled misinformation to prosper; a slow-footed health bureaucracy incapable of flexible response; and social disparities that heightened inequities in the impact of disease. Planning for the Wrong Pandemic takes a different approach. Without dismissing such accounts, it begins with the observation that much of the governmental and expert response to the pandemic had been envisioned and planned for in advance. Moreover, many of these plans were implemented in the early stages of the pandemic. As authorities responded to the crisis, they relied on an already-formulated set of concepts and tools that had been devised for managing a future emergency. These pre-existing tools enabled officials to make sense of the event and to rapidly implement policies in response. But they also led to significant blind spots. This book asks: under what circumstances were these planning tools developed? What did they enable experts, officials, and the public to see, and what did they hide from view? And, finally, as we assess the failures in our response to the pandemic and attempt to prepare for “the next one,” to what extent should we take for granted the capacity of these tools to guide future interventions effectively?
Book Synopsis Manufactured Crisis by : James Simpson
Download or read book Manufactured Crisis written by James Simpson and published by Post Hill Press. This book was released on 2024-09-24 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few could have imagined ten years ago where we’d be in America today: We are confronted on all sides by interminable crises that threaten the very fabric of our nation—from a border flooded with millions of migrants from all over the world, to a fentanyl crisis killing more American youths every year than the past three wars combined. Radical transgender activism and other cultural insanity has pushed more youths to commit suicide than at any other time in history. It seems as though the world is rapidly coming unglued. But it is actually a diabolical plan that has been operating for over a hundred years and is now showing its face. This book describes this plan in excruciating detail and shows us a path out—if we’re willing to take it.

This book was released on 2024-02-27 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collecting the four unprecedented indictments against Donald Trump, this essential volume features extensive commentary by NYU law professors and MSNBC contributors Melissa Murray and Andrew Weissmann. In the long span of American history, Donald Trump is the first former president to face criminal indictment. He is the subject of a series of explosive charges across four cases: the January 6 case brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith; the election interference case in Georgia; the classified documents case also brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith; and the "hush money" case in New York. The Trump Indictments includes: • An introduction offering historical background and international comparisons for criminal charges against a former political leader. • The four indictments with annotations throughout, including insider notes from an eminent scholar (Murray) and a former federal prosecutor (Weissmann). • A cast of characters, from Trump and his alleged co-conspirators to notable Proud Boys and Oath Keepers who face prison sentences as a result of related January 6 cases. • A timeline that brings together in one place the critical events that led to the four indictments. A necessary handbook for anyone following the trials in 2024, The Trump Indictments will endure as an indispensable record of a democracy at the crossroads.

Book Synopsis Yearbook on the African Union Volume 3 (2022) by :
Download or read book Yearbook on the African Union Volume 3 (2022) written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-11-20 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third edition of the Yearbook on the African Union (YBAU). The YBAU is first and foremost an academic project that provides an in-depth evaluation and analysis of the institution, its processes, and its engagements. Despite the increased agency in recent years of the African Union in general, and the AU Commission in particular, little is known – outside expert policy or niche academic circles – about the Union’s activities. This is the gap the Yearbook on the African Union wants to systematically address. It seeks to be a reference point for in-depth research, evidence-based policy-making and decision-making. Contributors are Festus Kofi Aubyn, Mandira Bagwandeen, Habibu Yaya Bappah, Bruce Byiers, Annie Barbara Hazviyemurwi Chikwanha, Dawit Yohannes Wondemagegnehu, Linnea Gelot, Cheryl Hendricks, Jens Herpolsheimer, Aïssatou Kanté, Tim Murithi, Edefe Ojomo, Thomas Tieku, Gino Vlavonou, Tim Zajontz.
Book Synopsis School Leadership in India by : N. Mythili
Download or read book School Leadership in India written by N. Mythili and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-08-28 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how school leadership plays a significant role in addressing the issues of poor learning among students in India. It presents in-depth discussions on critical leadership practices that are influenced by the interaction between leadership styles, functions, behaviours and practices of school leaders using theoretical discourse. Besides, a conceptual framework is developed to understand the leadership phenomenon in the Indian context for the overall improvement of schools, student learning and self-development of leaders. While highlighting the issues and challenges faced by schools and school leaders, the book presents a number of vignettes created from the data on various aspects of school leadership practices indicating the styles, behaviours and functions in every chapter. The nature of the analysis is also unique to the discourse on educational leadership as it culminates in tracing the path traversed by the school leaders. The analysis is thematically organised into purpose-process-outcome that spreads across seven chapters. Besides the rigour of vast data that substantiates the arguments using mixed methods, it also vividly discusses the national initiatives undertaken in India to transform instructional and pedagogical leadership of principals and improve students learning in the past one decade or so. The book will be of interest to researchers of education, leadership education and development and school education in university departments of education, management, public administration, development studies and sociology that use interdisciplinary approaches. It will also be useful for school educators, academicians, school leaders, policymakers and teacher educators not only for teaching and research but also for school leadership development for practitioners.
Book Synopsis The Constant Two Plan by : Jay Wendland
Download or read book The Constant Two Plan written by Jay Wendland and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2024-03-18 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since established by the Founding Fathers, the Electoral College was designated to be appoint the president to ensure that the voting process was anti-majoritarian in nature. However, with the advancements of technology allowing for a meaningful and engaged popular vote to ensure the U.S. is led by a president who received the most votes, the Founders concerns about the inability for the country to run a meaningful nationwide election are no longer relevant, leaving room for change. In The Constant Two Plan: Reforming the Electoral College to Account for the National Popular Vote, Jay Wendland explores a novel approach to reforming the Electoral College to allocate for two electoral votes per state alongside the votes from the American public in order to bring the American presidential election process more in line with democratic norms and principles. Wedland demonstrates that the major extant reform plans in place would perform worse than the existing system and a new idea is needed. The Constant Two Plan remedies the small state bias, ensuring the popular vote winner becomes president, and acknowledges the federalist principle many have come to associate with the Electoral College.
