This book was released on 2012-11-21 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the growth of computer technologies and web technologies, we can easily collect and store large amounts of text data. We can believe that the data include useful knowledge. Text mining techniques have been studied aggressively in order to extract the knowledge from the data since late 1990s. Even if many important techniques have been developed, the text mining research field continues to expand for the needs arising from various application fields. This book is composed of 9 chapters introducing advanced text mining techniques. They are various techniques from relation extraction to under or less resourced language. I believe that this book will give new knowledge in the text mining field and help many readers open their new research fields.

The second part then describes the application of machine learning in the classification problem, while the third part presents an overview of real-world applications of swarm-based optimization algorithms. The concept of machine learning (ML) is not new in the field of computing. However, due to the ever-changing nature of requirements in today’s world it has emerged in the form of completely new avatars. Now everyone is talking about ML-based solution strategies for a given problem set. The book includes research articles and expository papers on the theory and algorithms of machine learning and bio-inspiring optimization, as well as papers on numerical experiments and real-world applications.

Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of Arabic Linguistics by : Jonathan Owens
Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Arabic Linguistics written by Jonathan Owens and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2013-10-03 with total page 619 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until about 60 years ago, linguistic research on the Arabic language in the West was restricted to inquiries on Classical Arabic and the Classical tradition, and spoken Arabic dialects, with historical studies embedded within the broader field of Semitic languages. This situation is changing quickly, not only through the continuation of older research traditions, but also with the integration of new research fields and perspectives. With this expansion comes the danger of specialists in Arabic losing an overview of the field, and of leaving non-specialists without basic resources for evaluating domains of research which they may be interested in for comparative purposes. The Oxford Handbook of Arabic Linguistics will confront this problem by combining state-of-the-art overviews with essays on issues of perspective, controversy, and point of view. In twenty-four chapters, leading experts from around the world will lay out their own stances on controversial issues. The book not only evaluates ways in which questions and theories established in general linguistics and its sub-fields elucidate Arabic, but also challenges approaches which might result in accommodating Arabic to "non-Arabic" interpretations, and brings out the Arabic specificity of individual problems. The Handbook, in one compact volume, gives critical expression to a language which covers large populations and geographical areas, has a long written tradition, and has been the locus of major intellectual fervor and debate.
Book Synopsis Defining Language by : Geoff Barnbrook
Download or read book Defining Language written by Geoff Barnbrook and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2002-10-24 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Definition is a basic activity of language, of particular importance to linguists because of its use of language to describe itself. Beyond this inherent significance as a crucial element of language study, definitions also provide a rich potential source of the information needed for Natural Language Processing systems. This book describes an investigation of the subset of general language used in definition sentences and the development of a taxonomy of definition types, a grammar of definition sentences and parsing software which can extract their functional components. The work is based on definition sentences used in one of the dictionaries from the Cobuild range, and the book includes a brief history of the development of monolingual English dictionaries, an assessment of the concepts of sublanguages and local grammars and a full exploration of the results of the analysis and of the present and future applications of the taxonomy, grammar and parser.

Book Synopsis The Proof of the Honey by : Salwa Al Neimi
Download or read book The Proof of the Honey written by Salwa Al Neimi and published by Europa Editions UK. This book was released on 2009-05-31 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Banned in many Arab countries and where it was not, an instant bestseller, The Proof of the Honey is a superb celebration of female pleasure—a tribute to sex, eroticism, language and liberty. "I conjure bodies," claims the narrator of this daring novel. "I have no knowledge of my soul or of the souls of others. I know only my body and theirs. Which is enough for me." She is a Syrian scholar working in a research library in Paris. An invitation to contribute to a conference on the subject of classic erotic literature in Arabic provides occasion for her to evoke memories from her own life, to exult in her personal liberty, her lovers, her desires, and to revisit moments of shared intimacy with other women as they discuss life, love, and sexual desire. Far more than an erotic novel, The Proof of the Honey offers a surprising and illuminating glimpse into the realities of contemporary Arab societies. It is likewise a voyage through the history of Arabic literature: borrowing inspiration from The Thousand and One Nights, erudite asides are woven into the fabric of the protagonist's story and the stories of her lovers. Affirming that "Arabic is the language of sex," and making desire the source of her own personal liberty, Al Neimi has written a stirring novel about the place afforded sex in modern Arabic society and its relationship to the long, rich tradition of Arabic erotica.
Book Synopsis EuroWordNet: A multilingual database with lexical semantic networks by : Piek Vossen
Download or read book EuroWordNet: A multilingual database with lexical semantic networks written by Piek Vossen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the main objective of EuroWordNet, which is the building of a multilingual database with lexical semantic networks or wordnets for several European languages. Each wordnet in the database represents a language-specific structure due to the unique lexicalization of concepts in languages. The concepts are inter-linked via a separate Inter-Lingual-Index, where equivalent concepts across languages should share the same index item. The flexible multilingual design of the database makes it possible to compare the lexicalizations and semantic structures, revealing answers to fundamental linguistic and philosophical questions which could never be answered before. How consistent are lexical semantic networks across languages, what are the language-specific differences of these networks, is there a language-universal ontology, how much information can be shared across languages? First attempts to answer these questions are given in the form of a set of shared or common Base Concepts that has been derived from the separate wordnets and their classification by a language-neutral top-ontology. These Base Concepts play a fundamental role in several wordnets. Nevertheless, the database may also serve many practical needs with respect to (cross-language) information retrieval, machine translation tools, language generation tools and language learning tools, which are discussed in the final chapter. The book offers an excellent introduction to the EuroWordNet project for scholars in the field and raises many issues that set the directions for further research in semantics and knowledge engineering.
