Download or read book Colossians and Philemon written by Christopher A. Beetham and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. These 12-week study lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) Reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” show how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on each and every page of the Bible. The books of Colossians and Philemon complement each other as two New Testament texts that gloriously display the gospel and its implications for how God’s people should live today. Written around the same time, both letters resonate with the apostle Paul’s overriding passion to magnify Jesus Christ as the supreme manifestation of God’s redemptive purposes.

Book Synopsis The Letters to Philemon, the Colossians, and the Ephesians by : Ben Witherington
Download or read book The Letters to Philemon, the Colossians, and the Ephesians written by Ben Witherington and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2007-11-19 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume completes Ben Witherington's contributions to the set of Eerdmans socio-rhetorical commentaries on the New Testament. In addition to the usual features of these commentaries, Witherington offers an innovative way of looking at Colossians, Ephesians, and Philemon as interrelated documents written at different levels of moral discourse. Colossians is first-order moral discourse (the opening gambit), Ephesians is second-order moral discourse (what one says after the opening salvo to the same audience), and Philemon is third-order moral discourse (what one says to a personal friend or intimate). Witherington successfully analyzes these documents as examples of Asiatic rhetoric, explaining the differences in style from earlier Pauline documents. He further shows that Paul is deliberately engaging in the transformation of existing social institutions. As always, Witherington's work is scholarly and engaging. With detailed "Closer Look" sections, The Letters to Philemon, the Colossians, and the Ephesians is perfect for the libraries of clergy, biblical scholars, and seminaries.

Book Synopsis First Corinthians by : Richard B. Hays
Download or read book First Corinthians written by Richard B. Hays and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul's first letter to the Corinthians was addressed originally to a fledgling mission church in Corinth. Paul's absence from the church had allowed serious problems to arise within the Corinthian community, but the problems that he addresses in this letter do not always seem based in explicitly theological ideas. The brilliance of Paul, though, is that he frames the issues in theological terms and reflects on them in the light of the gospel. Hays identifies and discusses the major theological themes of the letter, as well as issues such as community formation and the rethinking of inherited sociocultural norms and practices, and he offers Paul as a model for ministry.

Book Synopsis Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit by : Evangelist John Henry Manigo
Download or read book Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit written by Evangelist John Henry Manigo and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-10-21 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One book or three books: My main interest is to help the deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing people understand the Word of God and to apply it to their own life with Gods help. It also gives us, as well as the hearing people, encouragement, help, and inspiration from the Word of God and tells us to receive the Word of God by faith. My main reason of writing the Trinity to show the example of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit as one and believe that God is One. I also write Trinity for various reasons and put down Bible verses to help match the Old Testament and New Testament that speak the same thing to show them the Bible in fact is real. Gods Word is very real. I write the main points because I have heard in the past about their belief, their teaching, and their faith in God, and I am willing to write down what they say and that the Bible has all the answer to our need and purpose. I have studied the Bible for forty-five years, seeking answers and being able to explain better from Gods teaching, from Gods Word. Whenever I hear people talk about their faith in God, I write down Bible verses to help inspire their life positive. It would help all of us to grow in grace through our Lord Jesus Christ. He has the answer to all our problems. My main point is to help them know that they can be saved through Jesus Christ by faith in him alone. Only in him shall we be saved. Be blessed! Evangelist John H. Manigo 1 Corinthians 6:1920
