Book Synopsis Pervasive Ambient Communication for Internet of Things by : Wei Gong
Download or read book Pervasive Ambient Communication for Internet of Things written by Wei Gong and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-09-12 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers several essential aspects of pervasive ambient backscatter communication, one of the most cutting-edge technologies for Internet-of-Things. It begins with introductory Part I, which presents visions, basic concepts, principles, and paradigms of ambient backscatter. Also, a taxonomy of state-of-the-art ambient backscatter systems is provided from the perspective of the OSI model. Part II and III study how ambient backscatter systems work on the communication and networking levels. Specifically, Part II discusses in detail how to make use of ambient WiFi signals to provide high-throughput backscatter communications with WiFi 1 (chapter 5), WiFi 2-3 (chapter 4), WiFi 4 (chapter 3), WiFi 5-6 (chapter 6) standards. Further, Part III includes several of the most advanced ambient backscatter network solutions, which are made possible by the first multi-hop backscatter (chapter 7), first backscatter mesh (chapter 8), and multiprotocol backscatter (chapter 9). On top of reliable communication and networks, we propose two novel applications that are thought impossible before, lightweight spatial sound recording over the air (chapter 10) and self-powered wireless wearables for healthcare (chapter 11). To conclude the monograph, we point out critical challenges for realizing the vision of pervasive backscatter IoTs and potential directions of ambient backscatter applications. The book provides an in-depth understanding of ambient backscatter technologies. In particular, we mainly take ubiquitous WiF signals as the communication sources and adopt a top-down approach to introduce three crucial subjects: WiFi backscatter communication, ambient backscatter network, and self-powered application systems. For each subject, we carefully divide it into several relatively independent topics, which come with the latest advances in pervasive backscatter and include extensive discussions of closely related state-of-the-art methodologies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis addresses the need to balance the use of facial recognition systems with the need to protect personal privacy in machine learning and biometric identification. As advances in deep learning accelerate their evolution, facial recognition systems enhance security capabilities, but also risk invading personal privacy. Our research identifies and addresses critical vulnerabilities inherent in facial recognition systems, and proposes innovative privacy-enhancing technologies that anonymize facial data while maintaining its utility for legitimate applications. Our investigation centers on the development of methodologies and frameworks that achieve k-anonymity in facial datasets; leverage identity disentanglement to facilitate anonymization; exploit the vulnerabilities of facial recognition systems to underscore their limitations; and implement practical defenses against unauthorized recognition systems. We introduce novel contributions such as AnonFACES, StyleID, IdDecoder, StyleAdv, and DiffPrivate, each designed to protect facial privacy through advanced adversarial machine learning techniques and generative models. These solutions not only demonstrate the feasibility of protecting facial privacy in an increasingly surveilled world, but also highlight the ongoing need for robust countermeasures against the ever-evolving capabilities of facial recognition technology. Continuous innovation in privacy-enhancing technologies is required to safeguard individuals from the pervasive reach of digital surveillance and protect their fundamental right to privacy. By providing open-source, publicly available tools, and frameworks, this thesis contributes to the collective effort to ensure that advancements in facial recognition serve the public good without compromising individual rights. Our multi-disciplinary approach bridges the gap between biometric systems, adversarial machine learning, and generative modeling to pave the way for future research in the domain and support AI innovation where technological advancement and privacy are balanced.

Book Synopsis The Evolution of Pervasive Information Systems by : Manuele Kirsch Pinheiro
Download or read book The Evolution of Pervasive Information Systems written by Manuele Kirsch Pinheiro and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers several aspects related the evolution of Information Systems into Pervasive Information Systems. New IT trends have an important impact on IT infrastructures, which become increasingly heterogeneous, flexible, and dynamic. These new trends are transforming Information Systems into what we call Pervasive Information Systems. The purpose of this book is to combine “state-of-the-art” solutions from various research communities (such as Information Systems Engineering, Cloud Computing, Fog/Edge Computing, Pervasive systems, Distributed systems, and Middleware systems) related to the Pervasive Information Systems emergence as a common point of view. Through these multiple contributions, this book tackles important challenges concerning Information Systems evolution, promoting a holistic view of Pervasive Information System. Pervasive Information Systems (PIS) can be defined as a new class of Information Systems. It can be characterized by an IT that is gradually embedded in the physical environment and can accommodate the user’s requirements and desires when necessary. This evolution implies considering Information Systems beyond the organization's physical environment to integrate new technologies transparently, leading to a pervasive environment whose behavior should be more and more reactive & proactive. It corresponds to an important change in Information Systems Engineering. Pervasive Information Systems are deeply multidisciplinary systems, demanding a holistic view in which multiple domains are invited to contribute.
Book Synopsis Spectrum and Power Allocation in Cognitive Radio Systems by : Suriyan, Kannadhasan
Download or read book Spectrum and Power Allocation in Cognitive Radio Systems written by Suriyan, Kannadhasan and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2024-08-06 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As wireless services rapidly expand, the inefficient use of limited spectrum resources poses a critical challenge. The conventional approach to spectrum allocation, based on fixed assignments, could be more effective in meeting the escalating demand for wireless devices and systems. Cognitive radio technology offers a transformative solution by reimagining the spectrum as a multidimensional space, enabling opportunistic access to underutilized bands. However, the field of cognitive radio is still in its early stages, needing more in-depth analyses and descriptions of crucial processes. Spectrum and Power Allocation in Cognitive Radio Systems addresses this pressing need by offering a comprehensive guide for academic scholars, researchers, and industry professionals. This book delves into cognitive radio technology's foundations, organization, and challenges, providing insights into dynamic spectrum access, networking protocols, hardware architecture, and emerging applications. It presents advanced topics such as spectrum sensing algorithms, cooperative spectrum sensing, and multi-user access, offering practical solutions to enhance spectrum efficiency.
