Written by a Model S owner, it provides the inside information you'll need to better understand the world's leading electric vehicle. The 2nd edition considers new Model S battery capacities, new vehicle configurations, new options, and new features that have recently been introduced by Tesla Motors--including dual-motor all-wheel-drive, autopilot, and the 761 hp P90D with "ludicrous mode." In addition, it reflects the actual driving experience of tens of thousands of Model S owners worldwide. Throughout the book and the accompanying website, owningmodels.com, Nick Howe provides you with no nonsense guidance, thorough checklists, and many hidden tricks that will enable you to get the absolute maximum from one of the world's coolest cars. Here are only a few of the many questions he answers inside Owning Model S: * Is Model S the right car for me? * Which options should I choose? * How do I prepare prior to the delivery of my Model S, and what do I look for on the day it's delivered? * What is the true range of Model S if I drive it fast and hard? * What aftermarket accessories will enable me to customize my Model S? These questions along with dozens of others are answered with pragmatic advice, no nonsense instructions, and detailed checklists. After reading Owning Model S, 2nd edition, you'll truly understand the future of motoring.

Book excerpt: Why Not? After all, no-one had ever done it before. It would be one of the longest of all overland journeys – half way round the world, from the English Channel to Singapore. They knew that several expeditions had already tried it. Some had got as far as the desrts of Persia; a few had even reached the plains of India. But no one had managed to go on from there: over the jungle clad mountains of Assam and across northern Burma to Thailand and Malaya. Over the last 3,000 miles it seemed there were ‘just too many rivers and too few roads'. But no-one really knew … In fact, their problems began much earlier than that. As mere undergraduates, they had no money, no cars, nothing. But with a cool audacity, which was to become characteristic, they set to work – wheedling and cajoling. First, they coaxed the BBC to come up with some film for a possible TV series. They then gently persuaded the manufacturers to lend them two factory-fresh Land Rovers. A publisher was even sweet-talked into giving them an advance on a book. By the time they were ready to go, their sponsors (more than 80 of them) ranged from whiskey distillers to the makers of collapsible buckets. In late 1955, they set off. Seven months and 12,000 miles later, two very weary Land Rovers, escorted by police outriders, rolled into Singapore – to flash bulbs and champagne. Now, fifty years on, their book, ‘First Overland', is republished – with a foreword by Sir David Attenborough. After all, it was he who gave them that film.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We have to recreate the enthusiasm that surrounded the SPORT models, ever a synonym for the Lancia Zagatos": in 1991 this was the brief the recent graduate Andrea Zagato gave to Marco Pedracini, a young designer who had not long been hired by prestigious coachbuilder. It was out of this fortuitous and fortunate coming together of this far-sighted idea and the enthusiasm of Paul Koot, a Dutch fan and a businessman in the automotive sector, that an icon was born, the HYENA. A beautiful car, but one practically unknown to the general public. A car that could have repeated and even surpassed the commercial and sporting success of the Lancia Delta Integrale from which it was derived. Unfortunatley just 24 examples were produced due to the debateable decision taken by the Fiat/Lancia directors of the time. Following a rapid review of the evolution of the Lancia Delta over the year, this book, written by an enthusiastic collector, examines the difficult genesis of the Hyena, from the first steps with the publication of the very first (previously unpublished) sketches and numerous photos and then follows its development, engineering and production through to its presentation at the car shows and in brochures. The book is completed by a comprehensive technical section, with the project list and the spare parts catalogue as well as an extensive photographic portrait of one particular example, N. 20. Lastly, all 24 Lancia Hyenas are examined, with the intention of reconstructing their specifications, their destination and the country in which they are jealously conserved by the enthusiast and collectors who possess a precious example.

Book excerpt: We’re told that the future will be brighter. But what if human happiness really lies in the past? Hobart, 2022: a city with a declining population, in the grip of a dark recession. A rusty ship sails into the harbour and begins to unload its cargo on the site of the once famous but now abandoned Gallery of Future Art, known to the world as GoFA. One day the city’s residents are awoken by a high-pitched sound no one has heard for two generations: a factory whistle. GoFA’s owner, world-famous billionaire Dundas Faussett, is creating his most ambitious installation yet. He’s going to defeat technology’s dominance over our lives by establishing a new Year Zero: 1948. Those whose jobs have been destroyed by Amazon and Uber and Airbnb are invited to fight back in the only way that can possibly succeed: by living as if the internet had never been invented. The hold of Bezos, Musk, Zuckerberg and their ilk starts to loosen as the revolutionary example of Factory 19 spreads. Can nostalgia really defeat the future? Can the little people win back the world? We are about to find out. ‘Like Orwell, of whom he has written so brilliantly, Dennis Glover’s work is charged with courage, intelligence and purpose. He is the complete writer, and one made for our times.’ —Don Watson ‘Savagely hilarious and unlike anything else you’ll read this year. It boils with the anger of the present moment.’ —Rohan Wilson
