Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information Reuse and Integration addresses the efficient extension and creation of knowledge through the exploitation of Kolmogorov complexity in the extraction and application of domain symmetry. Knowledge, which seems to be novel, can more often than not be recast as the image of a sequence of transformations, which yield symmetric knowledge. When the size of those transformations and/or the length of that sequence of transforms exceeds the size of the image, then that image is said to be novel or random. It may also be that the new knowledge is random in that no such sequence of transforms, which produces it exists, or is at least known. The nine chapters comprising this volume incorporate symmetry, reuse, and integration as overt operational procedures or as operations built into the formal representations of data and operators employed. Either way, the aforementioned theoretical underpinnings of information reuse and integration are supported.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents 13 high-quality research articles that provide long sought-after answers to questions concerning various aspects of reuse and integration. Its contents lead to the inescapable conclusion that software, hardware, and design productivity – including quality attributes – is not bounded. It combines the best of theory and practice and contains recipes for increasing the output of our productivity sectors. The idea of improving software quality through reuse is not new. After all, if software works and is needed, why not simply reuse it? What is new and evolving, however, is the idea of relative validation through testing and reuse, and the abstraction of code into frameworks for instantiation and reuse. Literal code can be abstracted. These abstractions can in turn yield similar codes, which serve to verify their patterns. There is a taxonomy of representations from the lowest-level literal codes to their highest-level natural language descriptions. As a result, product quality is improved in proportion to the degree of reuse at all levels of abstraction. Any software that is, in theory, complex enough to allow for self-reference, cannot be certified as being absolutely valid. The best that can be attained is a relative validity, which is based on testing. Axiomatic, denotational, and other program semantics are more difficult to verify than the codes, which they represent! But, are there any limits to testing? And how can we maximize the reliability of software or hardware products through testing? These are essential questions that need to be addressed; and, will be addressed herein.

The internet has quickly become a new hub for not only communication, but also community development. In most communities, people develop new cultural norms and identity development through social media usage. However, while these new lines of communication are helpful to many, challenges such as social media addiction, cyberbullying, and misinformation lurk on the internet and threaten forces both within and beyond the internet. The Research Anthology on Usage, Identity, and Impact of Social Media on Society and Culture is a comprehensive resource on the impact social media has on an individuals’ identity formation as well as its usage within society and cultures. It explores new research methodologies and findings into the behavior of users on social media as well as the effects of social media on society and culture as a whole. Covering topics such as cultural diversity, online deception, and youth impact, this major reference work is an essential resource for computer scientists, online community moderators, sociologists, business leaders and managers, marketers, advertising agencies, government officials, libraries, students and faculty of higher education, researchers, and academicians.

Book excerpt: An original, systematic-solution approach to uncertain nonlinear systems control and modeling using fuzzy equations and fuzzy differential equations There are various numerical and analytical approaches to the modeling and control of uncertain nonlinear systems. Fuzzy logic theory is an increasingly popular method used to solve inconvenience problems in nonlinear modeling. Modeling and Control of Uncertain Nonlinear Systems with Fuzzy Equations and Z-Number presents a structured approach to the control and modeling of uncertain nonlinear systems in industry using fuzzy equations and fuzzy differential equations. The first major work to explore methods based on neural networks and Bernstein neural networks, this innovative volume provides a framework for control and modeling of uncertain nonlinear systems with applications to industry. Readers learn how to use fuzzy techniques to solve scientific and engineering problems and understand intelligent control design and applications. The text assembles the results of four years of research on control of uncertain nonlinear systems with dual fuzzy equations, fuzzy modeling for uncertain nonlinear systems with fuzzy equations, the numerical solution of fuzzy equations with Z-numbers, and the numerical solution of fuzzy differential equations with Z-numbers. Using clear and accessible language to explain concepts and principles applicable to real-world scenarios, this book: Presents the modeling and control of uncertain nonlinear systems with fuzzy equations and fuzzy differential equations Includes an overview of uncertain nonlinear systems for non-specialists Teaches readers to use simulation, modeling and verification skills valuable for scientific research and engineering systems development Reinforces comprehension with illustrations, tables, examples, and simulations Modeling and Control of Uncertain Nonlinear Systems with Fuzzy Equations and Z-Number is suitable as a textbook for advanced students, academic and industrial researchers, and practitioners in fields of systems engineering, learning control systems, neural networks, computational intelligence, and fuzzy logic control.

Book excerpt: This book presents recent research in the field of reuse and integration, and will help researchers and practitioners alike to understand how they can implement reuse in different stages of software development and in various domains, from robotics and security authentication to environmental issues. Indeed, reuse is not only confined to reusing code; it can be included in every software development step. The challenge today is more about adapting solutions from one language to another, or from one domain to another. The relative validation of the reused artifacts in their new environment is also necessary, at time even critical. The book includes high-quality research papers on these and many other aspects, written by experts in information reuse and integration, who cover the latest advances in the field. Their contributions are extended versions of the best papers presented at the IEEE International Conference on Information Reuse and Integration (IRI) and IEEE International Workshop on Formal Methods Integration (FMI), which were held in San Diego in August 2017.

Book excerpt: With recent headlines around fake news from world leaders and around presidential elections, Twitter and other social media platforms being pressured to detect and label misinformation posted on their platforms, as well as misinformation around COVID-19 and its vaccine, the world has seen an increase in protests, policy changes, and even chaos surrounding this information. This spread of misinformation, when left unchecked, can turn fiction into fact and result in a mass misconception of the truth that shapes opinions, creates false narratives, and impacts multiple facets of society in potentially detrimental ways, indicating a need for the latest research on how the devastating impacts of this trend, how to discern facts from misinformation, as well as more information on technological advancements in fake news detection The Research Anthology on Fake News, Political Warfare, and Combatting the Spread of Misinformation is a compilation of the most comprehensive, previously published, and highly cited research from prestigious institutions including Columbia University and Stanford University, USA, which focuses on understanding fake news, how it spreads, its negative effects, and current solutions being investigated. While highlighting topics such as fake news, trending conspiracy theories, media distrust, political warfare, and detection methods, this book is ideally intended for practitioners, stakeholders, researchers, academicians, and students interested in the continuing surge of fake news and its, at times, dangerous results.
