This book was released on 2020-04-20 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of the CVIII session of the Ecole de Physique des Houches, held in July 2017, was Effective Field Theory in Particle Physics and Cosmology. Effective Field Theory (EFT) is a general method for describing quantum systems with multiple length scales in a tractable fashion. It allows to perform precise calculations in established models (such as the Standard Models of particle physics and cosmology), as well as to concisely parametrise possible effects from physics beyond the Standard Models. The goal of this school was to offer a broad introduction to the foundations and modern applications of Effective Field Theory in many of its incarnations. This is all the more important as there are preciously few textbooks covering the subject, none of them in a complete way. In this book, the lecturers present the concepts in a pedagogical way so that readers can adapt some of the latest developments to their own problems. The chapters cover almost all the lectures given at the school and will serve as an introduction to the topic and as a reference manual to students and researchers.

Book Synopsis Exploring the Large Hadron Collider - CERN and the Accelerators by : Michael Hauschild
Download or read book Exploring the Large Hadron Collider - CERN and the Accelerators written by Michael Hauschild and published by Springer. This book was released on 2021-05-19 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael Hauschild takes the reader of this essential back to the beginnings of CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research near Geneva, Switzerland; one of the most fascinating research centres of all, its history, its people and its accelerators. The author explains how particle accelerators work and, starting from the first ideas, how the world's largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was built. After a two year update, the LHC was put back into operation in spring 2015 to discover the secrets of nature with higher energy than ever before. This Springer essential is a translation of the original German 1st edition essentials, Neustart des LHC: CERN und die Beschleuniger by Michael Hauschild, published by Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, part of Springer Nature in 2016. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors.

Download or read book LHC Phenomenology written by Einan Gardi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-27 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers a very broad spectrum of experimental and theoretical activity in particle physics, from the searches for the Higgs boson and physics beyond the Standard Model, to detailed studies of Quantum Chromodynamics, the B-physics sectors and the properties of hadronic matter at high energy density as realised in heavy-ion collisions. Starting with a basic introduction to the Standard Model and its most likely extensions, the opening section of the book presents an overview of the theoretical and phenomenological framework of hadron collisions and current theoretical models of frontier physics. In part II, discussion of the theory is supplemented by chapters on the detector capabilities and search strategies, as well as an overview of the main detector components, the initial calibration procedures and physics samples and early LHC results. Part III completes the volume with a description of the physics behind Monte Carlo event generators and a broad introduction to the main statistical methods used in high energy physics. LHC Phenomenology covers all of these topics at a pedagogical level, with the aim of providing young particle physicists with the basic tools required for future work on the various LHC experiments. It will also serve as a useful reference text for those working in the field.
