Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The challenges we face in education, health care, and social welfare are multifaceted, reflecting the complex systems in which we live. Out of urgency and often the best of intentions, organizations implement new policies, technologies, and other innovations to tackle these issues, and hope for the best. However, addressing these challenges requires more than heroic individuals with silver-bullet solutions. We need teams with diverse expertise that know how to learn together and use their collective knowledge to redesign our social systems for the improved well-being of our communities. Journey to Improvement serves as a road map for teams that are ready to follow a different path to better outcomes. Drawing on their decades of on-the-ground experience, the authors walk teams through the phases of an improvement journey from launching the team to trying ideas in practice to spreading those that work. This book highlights the personal, relational, and technical aspects of taking an improvement science approach and illustrates these ideas through real-world examples from across the social sector and around the world.
Book Synopsis Let's Start with the Children by : Al Colella
Download or read book Let's Start with the Children written by Al Colella and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Make the journey from the slave trade of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to the plight of African Americans in inner-city America in the South Bronx. Learn about the ravages and disadvantages of residence there and its lifelong impact upon an entire population. Recognize that this continuing situation has a sad and shameful historical path shaped by society’s blindness to humanity. This malaise of blindness exacted an unfair, immoral, and immeasurable human cost upon generations; a blindness which denied entry to the opportunities afforded others as a birthright. The aggregated cost in the South Bronx is staggering beyond belief. There is, however, a collateral cost to the reservoir of national resources caused by a failure to recognize—and, therefore, unrealized and unavailable—the creativity, talents, skills, and potential of inner-city residents. Hear those voices that have addressed the inequities of this situation; learn of individuals who believe in the humanity of every individual. Despite these voices, the deplorable inner-city situation continues and even worsens. Is anybody listening? There are listeners who have taken up the cause, albeit in the face of a lack of political, humanitarian, and spiritual wills. Learn about those listeners in a New England church community that made the trek to the South Bronx for a decade. One may perceive these two communities as radically different; experience the merger of two communities into a single family via the grace of a spiritual ministry. Think about how you can make a difference—somewhere, sometime, somehow—and discover the difference in your being. Proceeds from book sales will be directed to an educational fund specifically for the children of St. Ann’s community in the South Bronx.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every lean practitioner occasionally wishes for a simple, fun, and quick-read introduction to lean thinking to give acquaintances, associates, and family members -- even to our kids. Everything I Know About Lean I Learned in First Grade is just that sort of book. It brings lean back to its original simplicity by showing how lean is alive in a first grade classroom. The book connects common lean tools to the broader lean journey, shows how to identify and eliminate waste, and aids the reader in seeing lean for what it truly is: a way to create a learning and problem- solving culture. Written to educate the entire organization on the fundamentals of lean thinking, this is the perfect source to engage all team members at all levels of an organization. Originally self-published in 2008, LEI is proud to re-issue this book and make it available to the broader lean community.
Download or read book Day One & Beyond written by Rick Wormeli and published by Stenhouse Publishers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Your teacher training may have provided sound theory and a collection of instructional techniques, but it's often the practical details that can make day-to-day survival difficult in your first days, weeks, and years of teaching. For new teachers or those just new to the middle-school environment, here is an invaluable resource from the author of Meet Me in the Middle that will help you walk in the door prepared to teach. Oriented toward the unique experience of teaching grades 5 through 9, Day One and Beyond delivers proven best practices along with often-humorous observations that provide a window into the middle school environment. Based on his many years of research and experience in the middle school classroom, Rick offers frontline advice on: practical survival matters, such as what to do the first day and week, setting up the grade book and other record keeping, and what to do if you only have one computer in the classroom;classroom management, including discipline, getting students' attention, and roving classrooms;social issues, like the unique nature of middle-level students, relating to students, and positive relations with parents;professional concerns, from collegiality with teammates to professional resources all middle-level teachers should have. Content and instruction are important, but so are the practical matters that enable sound teaching practice. Day One and Beyond shows middle-level teachers how to manage the physical and emotional aspects of their unique environment so they can do what they've been trained to do: successfully teach young adolescents.
Book Synopsis My Journey to Redemption by : Nikita Penn
Download or read book My Journey to Redemption written by Nikita Penn and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-08-13 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fasten your seatbelts, folks. Let me take you on a ride that is unimaginable to any adult or child! It was especially unimaginable to a young boy. I was born in New Orleans to a single mother of five children. I was reared in the Florida housing project; it was housing that reflected a very impoverished community. This type of housing was offered at little to no cost at all to indigent families. It is established in low-income areas that are infested with alcoholism, drug addiction, sexual abuse, and unemployment. I was seemingly born into a dysfunctional lifestyle, generations of dysfunction. My mother was a chronic alcoholic. She barhopped frequently and was often an absentee parent. I never knew my biological father, so I would always latch on to any male figure that I thought was a good role model. Sounds familiar yet? As a child, I experienced and witnessed violence firsthand. I was exposed to things that were alarming and continue to haunt me. I call the haunting demons. I ran from those demons: gang affiliation, drugs and alcohol, and even the very often visible subject I saw dailydomestic abuse against women. I now understand that there was a higher power watching over me. During the troublesome times in my life, I could have died at least six times! God is good. I am still here to share my story. I hope this book offers solace to others that may have experienced something very similar.
