Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and published by Stationery Office Books (TSO). This book was released on 2000 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been produced for use by agricultural consultants, farmers and their agents, and other organisations concerned with developing and maintaining a sustainable agricultural industry. It describes the principles of crop nutrition and gives recommendations for the use of lime, fertilisers and organic manures for field crops and grassland grown in England and Wales. The main purpose of the book is to provide recommendations for the optimum rate and timing of fertilisers but information is also given on a range of related topics such as soil sampling methods and fertiliser application. The primary aim of the recommendations is to maximise the economic returns for farmers. Adoption of the recommendations will also reduce the risk of applying more fertiliser nutrients than the crop needs and will thereby minimise the risk of causing nutrient pollution of the environment. The recommendations are not designed for use in organic farming systems. A summary of the main changes from the previous edition is given.

Download or read book The Potato Crop written by P.M. Harris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 927 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research and publications on the potato crop have burgeoned since the first edition of this book was published in 1978. However, the warm reception of the first edition suggested that it had a useful part to play in promoting the scientific basis for understanding and improving the yield and quality of the crop. Since the first edition was out of print and a second reprint would not have taken into account the contributions made by research over the intervening years, it became obvious that a complete revision was necessary. There was, in particular, a need to take account of the rapid extension of interest in the crop into climates and farming systems with which it has not been traditionally associa, ted. Those involved with the crop will be sadly aware that a number of contributors to the first edition are no longer with us. Their contribution to our knowledge of the crop will however be a permanent legacy of their achievement. I would like to thank all those who have contributed to the book for their willingness to cooperate in the difficult task of bringing their particular subject up to date. This is even more noteworthy for the pressure of time appears to be almost an order of magnitude higher than it was when the first edition was tackled.
Book Synopsis Fertiliser Manual RB209 by : Great Britain. Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs
Download or read book Fertiliser Manual RB209 written by Great Britain. Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and published by Stationery Office Books (TSO). This book was released on 2010 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formerly entitled, the "Fertiliser Recommendations for Agricultural and Horticultural Crops", the 8th edition has now been renamed the "Fertiliser Manual" (ISBN 9780112432869). Farming is an important feature of our way of life. It shapes the landscape we enjoy, provides much of our food and is a vital part of maintaining and improving a healthy, thriving and diverse natural environment. The agricultural sector faces a number of challenges. Demand for crops will increase as the global population rises. However, agricultural practices including the use of fertilisers have the potential to damage the natural environment by polluting water courses, releasing greenhouse gases and ammonia to the air and by damaging the soil. This manual aims to help farmers and land managers better assess the fertiliser required for the range of crops they plan to grow, by suggesting what level of nutrients are required to provide the best financial return for the farm business. The manual aims to help ensure that proper account is taken of both mineral fertilisers and other sources of nutrients such as manures and slurries.

Book Synopsis Fertilizers and Environment by : Claudio Rodriguez Barrueco
Download or read book Fertilizers and Environment written by Claudio Rodriguez Barrueco and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Food production remains the highest agricultural priority, subject to the constraint that it be done in harmony with nature, or at least with minimum environmental pollution. The amount of fertilizer applied can be controlled using modern application techniques, including soil and crop management, guaranteeing higher economic profit and lower environmental cost. It is in such a context that the present book addresses the efficient and rational use of mineral and organic fertilizers while preserving environmental quality. The book discusses the impact on surface and groundwaters, soils and crops, and experience of nitrate leaching, denitrification, ammonia volatilization, heavy metal pollution, agricultural and urban waste management, and international and national legislation. Audience: Agronomists, environmentalists, soil and food chemists, ecologists, policy makers, and managers in the fertilizer industry concerned with the trend of public opinion.
