Book Synopsis Disability Protests by : Sharon N. Barnartt
Download or read book Disability Protests written by Sharon N. Barnartt and published by Gallaudet University Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1952, the Federal Republic of West Germany concluded a treaty with Israel whereby the Germans had to pay three billion Deutschmarks in compensation for the Holocaust. However, the Israelis felt that Germany owed Israel a moral as well as a financial debt, and thus expected further aid and protection. Although Germany made several concessions in favour of the Jewish State, particularly in the domain of armament, as Germany's political status increased, its national interest gradually took priority over that of Israel. George Lavy examines the grounds which motivated Germany to grant aid to Israel and the change in their relations as the German economy flourished and gained influence in world affairs.

Book Synopsis Aging in multiple sclerosis: from childhood to old age, in women and men by : Alessandra Lugaresi

This book was released on 2024-02-21 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years attention has been drawn on changes in multiple sclerosis (MS) prevalence according to sex and age. We are now aware that MS is not a disease with onset exclusively in the young adult, but that pediatric cases are not infrequent, as well as onset in older adults. The need to assess the role of aging, sexual hormones, diet, and infections, has boosted research in many areas, from immunology to imaging techniques to psychology. An increasing awareness of the impact of MS on personal and sexual relationships, with the need to assess patient related outcomes also in clinical trials, has driven research not only in psychology, but in many other areas. The need to integrate information from all these different research areas is deeply felt.
Book Synopsis Objects of Translation by : Finbarr Barry Flood
Download or read book Objects of Translation written by Finbarr Barry Flood and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2022-07-12 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objects of Translation offers a nuanced approach to the entanglements of medieval elites in the regions that today comprise Afghanistan, Pakistan, and north India. The book--which ranges in time from the early eighth to the early thirteenth centuries--challenges existing narratives that cast the period as one of enduring hostility between monolithic "Hindu" and "Muslim" cultures. These narratives of conflict have generally depended upon premodern texts for their understanding of the past. By contrast, this book considers the role of material culture and highlights how objects such as coins, dress, monuments, paintings, and sculptures mediated diverse modes of encounter during a critical but neglected period in South Asian history. The book explores modes of circulation--among them looting, gifting, and trade--through which artisans and artifacts traveled, remapping cultural boundaries usually imagined as stable and static. It analyzes the relationship between mobility and practices of cultural translation, and the role of both in the emergence of complex transcultural identities. Among the subjects discussed are the rendering of Arabic sacred texts in Sanskrit on Indian coins, the adoption of Turko-Persian dress by Buddhist rulers, the work of Indian stone masons in Afghanistan, and the incorporation of carvings from Hindu and Jain temples in early Indian mosques. Objects of Translation draws upon contemporary theories of cosmopolitanism and globalization to argue for radically new approaches to the cultural geography of premodern South Asia and the Islamic world.

Book Synopsis Censorship and Propaganda in World War I by : Eberhard Demm
Download or read book Censorship and Propaganda in World War I written by Eberhard Demm and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-05-30 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates how people were kept ignorant by censorship and indoctrinated by propaganda. Censorship suppressed all information that criticized the army and government, that might trouble the population or weaken its morale. Propaganda at home emphasized the superiority of the fatherland, explained setbacks by blaming scapegoats, vilified and ridiculed the enemy, warned of the disastrous consequences of defeat and extolled duty and sacrifice. The propaganda message also infiltrated entertainment and the visual arts. Abroad it aimed to demoralize enemy troops and stir up unrest among national minorities and other marginalized groups. The many illustrations and organograms provide a clear visual demonstration of Demm's argument.
