Book Synopsis In the Sign of Five by : T. H. Meyer
Download or read book In the Sign of Five written by T. H. Meyer and published by Temple Lodge Publishing. This book was released on 2015-05-11 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Spiritual knowledge is not given to us as in ancient times. By spiritual means it must be struggled and striven for against a host of demons... We must therefore get to know the powers that would cover up and obscure all spiritual knowledge.’ – from the Preface ‘The world seems to be standing within a demonic storm that threatens to overwhelm it’, states T.H. Meyer at the outset of this rousing call for a wide-ranging, spiritual-scientific knowledge of the world. Appeals to traditional religious belief will no longer pacify this storm, and neither will ‘good will’ suffice. Building on Rudolf Steiner’s anthroposophy, In the Sign of Five tackles the central task of our epoch: the epistemological struggle with evil, and presents the five most important spiritual events since the beginning of the Age of Michael: 1879 – the rise of Michael to the rank of Time Spirit; 1899 – the end of Kali Yuga; 1933 – the appearance of Christ in the Etheric; 1998 – the assault of Sorath, ‘one of the greatest ahrimanic demons’; The present – the incarnation of Ahriman. These events are linked to the five main tasks of the Age of Michael, the great challenge of inner knowledge and spiritual consciousness posed by the epoch as a whole. In the light of world history, and within the context of ‘the sign of five’, we stand today at the fifth place – at the point of the incarnation of Ahriman. Is humanity prepared for this decisive event? Have we recognised the phenomena of evil that surround us on a daily basis? Have the tasks corresponding to the five events been identified, and to what extent have they been carried out? How is evil related to ‘the good’ that guides the world, and specifically to the Christ impulse? Meyer provides a vital, pithy, aphoristic handbook for our apocalyptic times.

Book Synopsis Settlers of the American West by : Mary Ellen Snodgrass
Download or read book Settlers of the American West written by Mary Ellen Snodgrass and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-02-28 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Depictions of the American west in literature, art and film perpetuate romantic stereotypes of the pioneers--the gold-crazed '49er, the intrepid sodbuster. While ennobling the woodsman, the farmwife and the lawman, this tunnel vision of American history has shortchanged the whaler, the assayer, the innkeeper and the inventor. The westward advance of the trailblazers created demand for a gamut of unsung adventurers--surveyors, financiers, politicians, surgeons, entertainers, grocers and midwives--who built communities and businesses in the wilderness amid clashes with Indians, epidemics, floods, droughts and outlawry. Chronicling the worthy deeds, ethnicities, languages and lifestyles of ordinary people who survived a stirring period in American history, this book provides biographical information for hundreds of individual pioneers on the North American frontier, from the Mississippi River Valley as far west as Alaska. Appendices list pioneers by state or country of departure, destination, ethnicity, religion and occupation. A chronology of pioneer achievements places them in perspective.

Book Synopsis Capital in Manufacturing and Mining by : Daniel Barnett Creamer
Download or read book Capital in Manufacturing and Mining written by Daniel Barnett Creamer and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume in the NBER series on capital formation and financing, the authors show, with supporting figures, two major trends in mining and manufacturing. The first is that this sector had a rate of growth significantly higher than that of the economy as a whole. The total capital assets of this sector increased fifteenfold from 1880 to 1948, while the total stock of all tangible wealth in the United States increased only about sixfold. The second trend is a marked diversity among industries in the rate of growth over the period and in the time pattern of that rate. The authors advance a number of explanatory hypotheses about the significance of their findings. Originally published in 1960. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press.
